A question I have of the Goldback. Is it possible to make a 'Silverback out of sterling silver rather than just gold backs? Do you intend on ever making one?
This is a question we get a lot. We do own the trademark to Silverback and it is on our radar. However, there are three main reasons we have not yet created a Silverback. 1. Goldbacks stand alone as a single metal system and don’t need other metals supporting them. A Silverback could theoretically function like the Goldback as a currency, though it would be more volatile. However we would never peg them together as their exchange rates are independent of each other. That is one of the main reasons that the old tri-metal currency systems failed and why Goldbacks are so revolutionary. 2. Silverbacks of comparable weights would be too low in value to be cost effective to produce. There would be pennies worth of silver in it but it would still cost just as much as a Goldback to manufacture. 3. We know that the current technology is open to the risk of the silver tarnishing on the edges over time. Smaller amounts of silver have even more issues with tarnishing.
