As an American, 100% Disabled war veteran, I can tell you that urban, street fighting is no picnic for us either. Unless you can use air attacks to level the city, trying to take it building by building is always very dangerous.

urban building to building warfare brings the fight to a more level playing field all that military budget still doesn't change the fact that you still have to go gun to gun wall to wall with the enemy.
Hasn't this always been Russia's strategy, though? Keep throwing soldiers at it until they win? I don't know if it will work in the 21st century, but this sounds very standard for them.
Kind off. They did have a lot of casualtis. They also often outnumber the enemy. As far as i know though. That isn't really what the soviets did. They did outnumber the germans for example. But they at least tried not to throw there troops away needlesly.

Yea but now with low birthrates being problematic in many 1st and 2nd world nations, Russia is not gonna have many young people left, especially young men. There are more women in Russia now than there are men. This war is just sending thousands of them to an early grave.
This helps me to understand why in the early days of the War, Russian Soldiers were raiding Convenience and Grocery Stores. I thought it was odd, but it was indicative of the supplies they obviously didn’t have.
They even stole my partners great uncles winter clothes and tried to steal the gas boiler from her cousins. They forced them out there home as they were desperate for shelter for a month. She had a 1 year old child. They gave her 1 hour to pack up and leave. They now live in Croatia.
This is why learning history is very important. I've learned enough to understand that Russians barely get much food rations from their government, compared to the United States. And it was always like that for the Russians since World War 2.

Here's something to consider. Russia BORDERS Ukraine. The distance between Moscow and Kiev is a day's drive across an average sized state in the US at ~460 miles. About the same distance as Columbus Ohio to New York City. The fact they cannot keep their soldiers, equipped, fed, or reinforced, as well as not being able to rotate them for medical care doesn't just show an incompetence in logistics, but the complete lack thereof. This is a country that would likely lose a war to countries such as United Kingdom, France, and maybe even Germany, and that is one on one. They would also likely lose a war against a Baltic Alliance as if Poland, Estonia, and Lithuania decided to pull resources in a united defense. The idea of NATO or even just the United States entering the fight would mean a total collapse of the Russian state. Which is why they threaten nukes as much as they do. They are the North Korea of Europe. A sad despotic state kept alive only through threats. The moment the bluff is called, such petty threats would fold.
It's intentional. Putin is trying to get rid of men of fighting age to give himself a better chance to remain in power indefinitely. Japanese emperors have done the same in the past.
I have read a few articles if Ukraine moved the front line on the ground to western Russia, Russia would use nuclear weapons! I do not know if this is true!
Not Germany! In a recent poll conducted by DW news with Germans it stated that 70% of Germans would not fight the Russians even if they invaded Germany! What the hell? 😮
@@kevfit4333 There's no fantasy, the fact is, disease, malnutrition, and injuries wrack Russian forces. That's from their own accounts. And that is at a distance of a day's drive. Sorry, your country's military has no logistics.
'Amateurs discuss tactics. Professionals discuss logistics.' -Napoleon Bonaparte The first irony is that Napoleon was beaten back by Russia because he got too complacent and thought he could knock out Russia quickly without setting up extensive logistics. The second irony is that Russia hasn't learned this lesson since then either.
Most of the russians don't want to remove putin. There are silent idles, that thinks that it's not ok to bomb cities, but they are minority in big cities. Most of the russians in poor regions (which is majority of population) worship putin. They idolize their chieftain, like it was back in USSR.
Ukraine and NATO really don't have the kind of access they need to assassinate Putin. Similarly, the Russian military is compartmentalized in such a way that a military unit is unable to organize with other units to launch a coup. The other militaries would step in and stop them, and rather than taking control, any leader of a coup would quickly be killed by the others after succeeding. This makes any coup attempt extremely unlikely to succeed. The relationship between Prigozhin and Shoigu clearly illustrates this feature of Russian military command.
Agreed volunteer for Ukraine, they may not take you now since their not yet in dire straits for manpower but you could volunteer as a non combatant instead of an enlisted soldier
Agree, but you both don't who replied didn't actually read real news on this war. 95% of Russians support the war, Ukraine police and soldiers have been been rounding up men off the streets to fight with little training, the only reason Russia hasn't taken Ukraine is bc Putin still is selling this as a operation rather then a war and the west is backing Ukraine with billions. Don't get me wrong I want Ukraine to win but that is highly unlikely, It would be as if the USA wanted a piece of Mexico and all of Europe and Russia backed Mexico to same situation!!
I remember other channels reported his video. He also mentioned how hard to just surrender, you can’t raise a white flag because your comrades will shot you from your back, and Ukraine will think you are faking it and also shoot you. It’s just countless scenarios we can’t imagine after living in a peaceful life since birth. War is more brutal than the most horrific horror movie you’ve ever watched.
Yeah, according to a video with 2 volunteers for Ukraine, they've mostly stopped taking soldiers because it's very high risk, and the conscripts don't know anything.
Well Ukraine does take surrendering Russians, but the videos I have seen are Russians trying to kill both unarmed Russians in handcuffs AND the Ukrainians escorting them. So I dont feel any sympathy for Russia.
I've been to both Ukraine and Russia - and had clients in both countries. I told my Russian clients (in 1996) that I thought that Russia had such a good opportunity to become a full fledged democracy . They have lots of history, arts, science, and TONS of resources. At that time, Putin was just the Deputy Mayor of St. Petersburg and starting to become a Kremlin insider, although unknown to me at that time, he was also stealing hundreds of millions by selling off Russian assets (to raise money for food) and then giving back only a small percentage to the state. He was and is a criminal. The Ukrainians were very friendly and very upbeat and trying to move their country forward - despite NOT having tons of resources and also having to deal with some amount of corruption which was instilled into their country by the Soviets. But -- I got the sense from them that their time had finally come, and that soon their country would be very healthy and very independent at some point in the near future. I could easily see them joining the EU and NATO. Attitude is EVERYTHING. How wrong I was about the future. It's so, so sad what's happened to both countries simply by having someone like Putin as leading Russia. He has single handily destroyed the Russian economy, displaced millions, and created a brain-drain in the country which will easily last generations. It seems that the Russians, like children raised in a crack house, are fatalistic and know that Putin is leading them into the abyss - and are unwilling or unable to do anything about it. I pray the Ukrainian people can continue to hang on to see the end of this fighting, and the withdrawal of the Russians from ALL of their territory.
Germany is also to blame for this, Schroeder and Merkel did everything to raise a new Fuhrer. And Germany became the main sponsor of the rearmament of Putin's army. After the Russian invasion of Georgia in 2008, instead of tough sanctions, they built Nord Stream 1. After the annexation of Crimea and the invasion of Donbas in 2014, you built Nord Stream 2. Nothing personal, just business? Thank you, of course, for Germany's help for Ukraine, but this does not relieve you of responsibility for the war.
From what I have read stealing from the state has been part of the Russian way of life since at least the first Tsar (1500's?). There are even all sorts of unspoken rules about who you can steal from e'g someone below you in the hierarchy is O'K but not above you or your peer in another state. Graft and corruption is culturally deep rooted at all levels from the street sweeper to the president. This makes a certain number of individuals staggeringly wealthy and powerful. Any attempt at political reform that threatens the status of this group is doomed to fail. You can only imagine how hard it would be to change this system it would need at least two generations and require broad sustained support at all levels of society and government. In a nutshell the Russian state would probably need to be reborn from a complete collapse before there would be any real change.
Right. He "destroyed" the Russian economy by turning it from "the sick man of Europe" to the strongest economy in Europe, despite massive hostile sanctions (according to the World Bank)

That's understandable from your point of view. That being said, his particular choice as a mercenary is not specially surprising. Total deaths for last american invasion of Iraq is estimated by american NGO's to be 500K to 1 million. As the US destroyed all infrastructures, it caused many indirect deaths. US, and UK each lost around 500 K soldiers in WW2 for comparison. This was already a very important progress, from strategic bombings used by americans until end of Vietnam's War. In one night, the bombing of Tokyo killeds 100-150K civilians. Atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were known to be military unecessary, 200-300K civilians killed. Bombings before the D-Day were not kind to the french population ( and many were counterproductive) that was theorically classified as allies ( but nothing close to what Japan or Korea suffered). So you know, that whatever side you choose, there will be horrors and war crimes, and far too many civilians that'll die. So just being a mercenary means you don't care. You do need to understand the basic Russian human wave tactic that Russia is employing. Ukraine has set up defenses like mines, artillery, and drones to defend the front. To advance, Russia first sends troops to draw fire from those defenses. Once the defenses fire and reveal their positions, the Russian artillery can triangulate their positions and shoot artillery at those positions to destroy them. When Ukrainian defenses are gone, then Russians can use their superior numbers to occupy the area and force Ukraine to retreat. Mercenaries and conscripts are sacrificed to this literal meat grinder tactic.

You're saying "Ukraine is steming the Russian tide by using towns are fortresses" while blatantly disregarding the fact that Russia CHOOSES to attack towns. They could be launching open field offensives like the Ukrainians tried to do (let's rewind on how that worked) , but they're not doing that. They're not doing that because urban warfare favors not the attacker or the defender, but the side with the most firepower. In the open field 2 guys with 3 drones can stop a mechanised column. In urban warfare the defender, if outgunned, can only hide in rubble and basements while FABs and Artillery is falling on their heads. And whatever attacks the Ukrainians do pull off, be it a well placed mortar volley or a few FPV strikes, in urban warfare they only manage to kill or wound a small assault group. The same attack on an armored column, which is what you need for open field attacks, would have left 2-3 squads killed or wounded, 1 BMP blown up and 1 imobilised and abandoned. Russia chooses urban warfare because it favors them attritionally. NAFO bots will send me a video of 6 Russians getting blown up and claim it as a counterargument to what I said, but that only shows you have no idea what the hell you're talking about.

Ukraine complained about North Korea being able to deliver 10 times more shells than the whole NATO ( Factually true, but NK had stocks at that time, and NATO no longer had). But right now, ukrainian army and russian army have far more experience in the current high intensity war type than NATO armies. Most NATO armies have been proved to be unable to wage a high intensity war againt a near peer. NATO is currently one war behind now, and it has been somewhat humiliated. No one imagine Russia being able to beat NATO, but that war has showed that the West is not as strong as it appeared. At least until, it develop new doctrines including drones, and fighting drones. Besides when push comes to shove, China will be ruthless. Rather than fight house to house, they will just destroy all the buildings before sending in the drones and bots. Once the dust has settled, they will send in human troops. China is currently the only country that can manufacture all these toys on a near endless basis. Even the US and NATO cant match the production capability of China. Modern warfare isnt really fought with men but with drones and machinery.
I think the lack of food is probably what it makes it so terrifying here. Fighting or doing anything in a stress environment without food adds a level of spectacular nightmares that dance through the mind. It’s why logistics in food has won and lost so many critical battles in all of history. An army marches on its stomach is no small thing. Try not eating for two days when you’re going through something stressful, and then imagine people are trying to kill you from all angles at all times. The impact I’m sure, is crushing
It is unfortunate that Mr. Putin couldn’t be forced to fight on the front lines for his so-called worthwhile endeavor!! be like King David of Israel and lead the troops in battle instead of sitting at home, enjoying the finer things in life well others suffer miserably!!

The Tsar evaluates things within eternity, which will outlive him, but perhaps not his legacy. The soldier looks to defend those that are alive now, much less sovereignty. The Tsar sees soldiers like bushels of wheat to be consumed by the god of war, or distilled into self congratulatory Vodka. Good for the Tsar. Not so, for the soldier.
Thats true and the truth is harder than those poor mercenaries would ever thought. They did it for a pay and guess what, they all have been gradually finishing the "contract" and are forced to serve longer or they won't get paid. Of course they expect them to be killed before they are paid. Righteous or not the Cubans are in serious trouble since they discovered part of the truth so they are no longer willing to serve and another violent chapter unfolded for them, they are being captured by other russian soldiers as ordered from higher rank officials. It doesn't look well for them so this whole story of being a mercenary on the russian side is an authentic guarantee of death.

It seems to me it would be easier for both sides to put their energy into removing Putin, it would be far less costly.
Budanov said Ukraine is trying that too, but just for a small morale drop in the enemy, not to end the war...
💯
It's dangerous. Because when a dictator is deposed, another takes over, often even worse.

As the US destroyed all infrastructures, it caused many indirect deaths. US, and UK each lost around 500 K soldiers in WW2 for comparison.

The trouble with authoritarian governments is that there is inadequate feedback from the front lines. Putin has isolated himself by being surrounded by yes men. @@kenandbarbie-b6c you don't need authoritarianism for that. Same thing happened to US in Iraq too. Remember the whole "they will welcome us liberators?"

Meat for the meat grinder... Disgusting. This war is a horrific example of humanity.
It all comes down to the will of... Vladimir Putin.
@@ancova1183hence why Ukraine use drones to target Russia infantry. Not exposing their location for that. And if it is urban combat, Russia could have used artillery but instead men in there. Why would they do that?
On the plus for Russia, the artillery seemed to be protected. Doesn’t seem like Ukraine are able to counter artillery with drones
@@ancova1183 Well explained.
However, Russia doesn't use conscripts.
Mercenaries as in professional soldiers from abroad, not that many
@@Maja-Danmark There was a partial mobilisation back from September to October 2022. Those are conscripts.
