  • The war in Ukraine is thousands of kilometers away, yet Nepalese combatants are risking their lives fighting alongside Russian troops.
Recruitment agencies smuggle young Nepalese men into the Ukraine war - they are supposed to fight for Putin's army. They are promised a good income and Russian citizenship.
But reality often looks different. Those who return complain about lack of payment and the terrible war routine. It's a life-threatening mission, many Nepalese are killed in the process. Yet, this doesn't deter some young Nepalese men, like 25-year-old Sonish, who is determined to go to Russia.
    A report by Adil Bhat.

I rarely see any Nepalese showing same pride about joining Ukraine army. Its like Nepalese mercenaries advertising their lifestyle being chill joining the russian mercenaries group. This video is for awareness and telling us Nepalese not to go to any frontline, especially Russia. Either love it or hate it, Russian mercenary (NOt Army) don’t provide same compensation and facilities like US or British army do.
and in other hand, DW is a German channel and is ally to Ukraine. Do you expect any Nepali channel to show any negative coverage over Nepal while showing good things about India? Nepali men fighting for Russia is not the same as joining the British Army's Gurkha Brigade. Russia will use the men as fodder and exploit Nepali poverty. These men should train and try the Gurkha selection process and not throw their lives away needlessly. If Russia isn't paying it's own troops regularly. As a foreign mercenary they'll likely see no money and have any pay stripped from them on the preface of the equipment and provisions they are given. They won't be registered a Russian soldiers. So if they get caught, they will be looking at the four walls of a Ukrainian cell for life for murder as the Geneva convention will not apply to them.
