- The Catatumbo forest is at the heart of the largest coca-growing area in Colombia. Cocaine has become the country’s most important export.
Armed groups seeking to expand coca cultivation are fighting a war for land, power, money, and influence. The main victims of this brutal rule by the guerrillas are civilians. But for some time now, the boom in cultivation has led to overproduction, leaving many farmers struggling to sell their coca. A report by Daniel Sager.

What a huge amount of love carries this woman within!. Unbelievable. God bless her and give her peace.
My sincerest sympathies to the civilians that are caught in the middle, Claudia's story is very moving, and she deserves a lot of respect for sharing it with the world. May she find peace in her future life.
I hope that one day my country can provide better job opportunities for all those poor farmers. Colombia is such a vast and beautiful country with abundant natural resources, but the lack of investment and government support has pushed these people into illegal activities just to survive 😔
I agree with you that's a very good comment

Ahí tiene a su Petro, cual ha sido el cambio? Siguen igual
Always watching from Georgetown Guyana south America 🇬🇾🇬🇾🇬🇾
12 minutes video for such an important tragic issue - is tooooo short.
More people watch short videos...so it's probably best keep it relatively short.
👍
Is there somewhere more info about the women's shelter she's organising?
How unfortunate they didn't throw a name out or anything. Could have made a huge difference for them.
Colombian Coffee is the BEST!!!!
I thought coffee is from Colombia, haven't seen any from Columbia
I hate Coffee 😂
It’s cocaine isn’t bad either
Sophia Vergara 👀 The BEST 😁
The best coffee is arabic, you don't know what is good if you haven't tried it yet
Another incredible documentary shared by an excellent ( DW) documentary channel...documentary about cocco pests cultivation, drugs cartels, Armied groups, sexual violence ..all these figures intervened. Created much bleak ,horrible circumstances in Colombia 🇨🇴
Thanks for watching and for your constructive feedback! :-)
If this is true , why is Coke still £70 a grm ??
How do you know that?
👀✨
Because all the cost is in getting it to the stupid consumers.
can get half a ball for a ton tho
Too much cocaine - due to overproduction?
My good friend, Tony Montana, is a respected and experienced businessman. He's ready to assist in any way he can.
Say "Hello" to my leetle friend! 😸
Every time a documentary with this content is made, I surely advocate to include in it the consumers side of the story. They drive the supply up without any second thoughts of the actual consequences in the communities that are involved in the production.
It is interesting how this illegal market has shift because there is a bottle neck in the supply chain. Explaining this would actually help to understand the consuming moral issue much more in depth.
In the occident they should show this kind of videos in schools to see that taking cocaine makes so much damage to Colombia. 😢😢
BS
Sophia Vergara 👀
This is coca not cocaine. This is for coca cola.
@@realDunalTrimp yes it is that cocaine before the process it with chemicals that gets you high
@@realDunalTrimp yes! That is what you think.
It wad a great doc. to make us understand how people are struggling in Columbia. I really admired the hope of Claudia and believe that she will see change in the near future.
So demand for coca is falling?
the spice will flow
What about Peru ? 🇵🇪 Peru’s growing capabilities are so much bigger and also more people are switching to other drugs like MDMa as well as synthetic Chinese online drugs 😢
Peru dont have the same situation they sell alot most of the cocaine is from Peru or Bolivia today
they always exploit the little guy
@@Kirt44 why not from colombia?
I read cocoa 😢 😅
I thought this was about coca cola
I thought the Cola wars were brutal but the Coca wars are on another level.
They both depend on coca 😂
Palm coconut??
Here in Australia idiots pay $250/gram... Its a really pathetic substance if its not dirt cheap high quality so don't think the farmers can ever expect it to be lucrative for them.
It’s needed a agricultural, production reform.

40 kilos for 17000 euros that's 425 euros per kilo!!!! wow! a gram is 100£ in uk and it only is 15% pure 90% of the time! Boshed to bits with legal highs.
unless you got a good Dr
Biggest value creation is dodging customs and retailing.
So you can imagine how much of the surplus gets into formal economy and contributes to the growth of enterprises and huge fortunes from "investments" or "master strikes" from a "new entrepeanur". Of course banks are aware of this. But, who cares? People is bringing money it doesn't really matter where is coming from.
The farmer and locals are the weak link in the chain but the big bucks eventualy end up filling the already established big pockets.
Maybe if it was legal.
A highly addictive drog that kills, that sounds reasonable
@@blanamaxima I don't see why they still growing it.
@blanamaxima alcohol and cigarettes
@anarchywon4170 dude , they are all bad but Coke and heroine is really bad. You can hardly overdose on cigarettes and alcohol but that shi* can kill you in no time.
More death due to the illegal aspect than death due to overdoses and such. Also the illegality is what justifies the high price. Consumers have no money left to live a healthy life so they become criminals.

ignorance in the human condition is what kills
Your comment will be shadowbanned at best. Most subversive comments get erased. Ignorance can be voluntary sometimes if not often... But being aware of our own emptiness is way better than assuming we know.
Absolute terrible
Problem is how do you get it to europe ,
Thats the hard part
it's also not so easy to market it and distribute it in Europe
ah yes... the good old 'i do this for my family' and 'it's lighter than bananas' story...
Those are people with out proper education and whose life has being surrounded by war and drug trafficking. No roads no incentives to actually get into a different industry and no opportunities.
It is reasonable the easier road they take.
It is funny and absolutely sad that the focus frequently is on the producer but not the consumer.
@@Andranzer26 i have one word:
LEGALIZE
@@faceofdead Certainly a proposed solution that's not in the farmers hands. But I do hope that legalization comes into place. i don't really know if the weapon and military industry/business will let it go to just a "government" decision. But a way to do so is pending to the found. Fortunately Colombia's president is actually actively talking about this in the international meetings.
Export all your coca production to Japan, China, German turkish kurdish people, Taiwan, İndonesian 17600 islands people, Phillipines boracay, cebu , all kinds of islands, African libya, algeria, tunusia , egypt etc
No way! The biggest consumers are Americans and Europeans
ok wow
Love pablo ♥️
You're on the wrong side of the spectrum
Sadly Colombia hasn’t yet built roads to these areas; roads that could let them get other crops to market. Petro cut off highway funding to even Antioquía (a State not even having coca production). Not a great future just yet.
How you dare to say Antioquia doesn't have coca production, the narcos are born, raised and made in that state, it's the worst this country has
The highways' money was stolen for the right wing politicians who have been in power for always. What kind of moron are you?
legalize all drugs
Not the solution, look at Kensington, Philadelphia
@@justanothernothuman whats going on there and what about portugal
The government of Petro ,is one of the biggest dealer for coca business.
Be careful what you say..
coca is a natural traditional medicine that benefits everybody and is a super nutritious food and fertilizer, it has many benefits, unlike the capitalists wanna paint it as
You're right, they even export it with his face on the coca blocks, search for "Los Petrosky", they capture one of their shipments in Spain
No as Uribe Vélez, I am sure!
@@Luis-hq8qv Look at the numbers
I think it is time for a mutual compromise to improve the economic and social situation of the population of Colombia, where the government has to do its job ( enforce the law, work into agreements to create new jobs and create projects of development) but also the population needs to control their birth, provide information that can make possible the eradication of guerillas , etc
Coke is being synthesized in Mexico as well. Precursors from China just like fentanyl and methylamphetamine. One stop shop smh
Unconditional right to stop our own life whenever we want medically. My body my choice. Freedom
You can do it, buy a pure nitrogen tank, thank me later

Legalize
For the farmer, legalization would mean an even worse problem. Price would go down even more.
Most farmers don't choose... The entire economy is based on it.
@@jansport0409 no it wouldn't, it would be a stable form of income, for a product that is very geologically restricted. it only grows in south america, so you'd have to pay good money for the product.
@@jansport0409 farmers get peanuts compared to this multi billions industry and are criminalised. Talking about fair trade...
I'm so heartbroken that Columbian cocaine producers are falling on hard times. Maybe Joe should deliver an economic rescue package to them. It might get him some votes from all the South Americans and drug traffickers in the US. His son might even vote for him.
Oh well. When the entire southern hemispheres economy fails, they can all just walk to Europe or North America for a better life.
But what could be 'better' than making a druglord rich off of destroying Norte Americano's and European'svlives? I guess we'll all find out.

These consumers have no sense of ethics of what they do to vulnerable and poor communities when they decide to make a purchase decision.
