The source material for this is from Words of Radiance, Book 2 of the Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson. Narrated by Kate Reading and Michael Kramer.
I made this with Storyboard Pro, Blender, and Adobe Premiere. I used free assets for the scene in Blender.

Not sure he wasn't the better man. Even Dalinar didn't believe Sadius would come around. He, Dalinar, was planning on an eventual betrayal. Sadius said he'd do it. He'd been planning it. He'd probably even killed, certainly sponsored killings, to advance his new plans for betrayal and conquest. Waiting for the knife to stab you personally (again, for the umpteenth time) doesn't seem all that virtuous. The fallout from a direct confrontation between Dalinar and Sadius would have been disastrous. I get why Dalinar didn't take that course. However, if Yasna had been around...Sadius wouldn't have survived to make it to Adolin.

Adolin was wrong here. Killing Sadeas was what a better man would do. Dalinar didn’t have the guts to do it.

Love this in contrast to dalinar’s “if I must fall I will rise again, each time a better man”
Sadeas: "I tried numerous times to kill you and your father. I got many people murdered in these attempts, and nearly killed your own betrothed. I am going to keep doing this, and there's nothing whatsoever you can do to stop it."

I can't believe there are some people out there that think what Adolin was immoral--it was flat-out self defense.
Honestly, you could argue Adolin was just serving up some vigilante justice. Sadeas caused the deaths of over FIVE THOUSAND Kholin troops at the end of Way of Kings. He's at worst a mass murderer and at best a war criminal; either way, giving him the death penalty is well deserved - especially given the relatively minor things that characters like Dalinar and Kaladin bring up that can get your average soldier hung.
Frankly it's prosecuting an already ongoing war
You really have to go with the text and what Brandon says is moral/immoral. At least in terms of what to get out of the story. It’s pretty obvious that Brandon intended for the murder to be immoral. Dalinar says it is by looking for the killer (and presumably would’ve punished him if it wasn’t Adolin), the way Adolin defends his father, the way Adolin himself feels guilt, even Shalan equates it to her murdering her father, something she calls herself a monster for.
In the confines of the story the characters, and by extension Brandon, definitely feel like it was an immoral act. Adolin comes to terms with it, but that doesn’t change the morality of the act, just that he’s moved on and doesn’t feel guilty anymore.
@@maninblack3410 Sanderson and Dalinar are capable of being wrong. Shalan is practically professionally wrong.
@@maninblack3410 Feeling guilt or shame about an action doesn't indicate that the action was immoral.
Shallan calls herself a monster for killing her father--but we the readers know she isn't a monster.
But even if Sanderson came right out and said "Adolin was wrong for what he did; that was my intent", that's his own opinion, not an actual metric of objective morality.
Saddeas was a mass murdering slaver who was explicitly declaring his intent to kill again. Over and over until he gets his target. There is no doubt about the actions he's already taken, or the actions he intends to take.
If they ever make the movies, I hope they go for an animated production. It's just a better medium for these kinds of stories. Excellent as always.

To me the shard plates and blades would look best animated rather than cgi in movies
it wont be, unfortunately. Brandon has said that he doesn't want to do any kind animation since its too niche.

@@wasa1487 Thing is, passion projects, even on small budgets always end up looking great. It's the cash grabs where the cgi looks awful. And luckily for us, Brandon will never settle for a cash grab deal.
The funniest thing is that Adolin technically abided by the rules of his culture, except for one.
The two of them were already supposed to duel to the death. Sadeas had managed to delay it. All Adolin did was cancel Sadeas' ability to delay the duel any further.
I've already delayed the duel. Pray I don't delay it further.

You know, I rewatched your Way of Kings animatic a little while ago and thought you myself, "man, it would be so cool if Jaydeaart animated that one scene at the end of Words of Radiance, that would be so frickin cool but that won't happen" and then you go and immediately prove me wrong, you glorious storming Lightweaver.

Gotta say, I love to hear the use of Michael Kramer's narration instead of the graphic audio versions

With the heights that animated films and series have reached at this point, the Stormlight books have the potential to be adapted with a level of quality on par with Legend of Vox Machina, Castlevania, or even Arcane with the right team behind it. And, you know, money...

@@Strix182 If I were to guess, I would imagine Brandon is waiting to bring the Stormlight Archive to any form film adaption until he's finished with the series, just so that the film series doesn't end up having to wait for the next books to come out

I have to admit.. having just recently gotten into the Stormlight Archive I was not expecting this to happen in Words of Radiance...
Also your animatic of "The Way of Kings" got me so hyped It got me started on my adventure of listening to the audio book.. and yeah.. I guess your animatic spoiled what is arguably the best scene in the book It still gave me chills when I got to it.

So I am rereading the first book now. I hope it would make everyone feel better to learn that Sadeas isn’t the cool clean evil dude everyone imagines him as. He was canonically described as ugly with a red face and a bulbous nose/

During this scene at first I was like "Booyah!! Get him Adolin!" Then the knife in the eye made me pause 😨

These animations are incredible! I'd love to see a Stormlight movie, and while I think this is the closest we'll get to one for a while, it's so amazing to see these scenes visualized rather than just words on a page. I'd love to see more!

This voice is PERFECT for Sadeas. I am dumbfounded at how well it fits. It simultaneously conveys competence and arrogance.
It's from the audiobook! Michael Kramer does a fantastic job as a whole, but his Torol Sadeas is a masterclass in a rich, dangerous, scumbag voice.

Love it. There were bits that forcebly reminded me of Avatar the Last Airbender, and I suddenly want them to animate the Stormlight Archive very badly lol

Words of Radiance Is the second book in The Stormlight Archive series by Brandon Sanderson. It is part of a greater series of connected stories (the Cosmere) and all of them are a must read if you enjoy High Fantasy.

As satisfying as seeing this turd get what was coming to him was, to me it was always a little strange that Sadeas was just like "Oh, I'm totally planning on betraying your father, but I'm going to tell you as much to your face!" Like, I know there's the satisfaction of rubbing it in someone's face when you're an asshole villain, but this was reaching "I'm going to kick your puppy!" levels of silly villainy

The sword can be summoned at will by the person who's bonded to it, and when they die, it appears at their side. It's being thrown out so people will suspect it's stolen.
This is the second book in Brandon Sanderson's series The Stormlight Archive. It's great and you should absolutely read it (or listen to it if you prefer audiobooks) if you enjoy fantasy.

i don't like this scene like why did sadeas just let all his guards go away? In some weird ancient possibly dangerous tower? Did nobody hear that like really? Did someone saw Adolin? Why sadeas provoked again when he knew they are alone now,knows how Adolin hates him knows,how good of a fighter Adolin is like really one of our main antagonists for two books just dies in such an easy way like he was supposed to be so cool and he basically is screaming to Adolin to kill him when they are alone in a dark room😐😐
