"Six years ago, the Assassin in White, a hireling of the inscrutable Parshendi, assassinated the Alethi king on the very night a treaty between men and Parshendi was being celebrated. So began the Vengeance Pact among the highprinces of Alethkar and the War of Reckoning against the Parshendi.
Now the Assassin is active again, murdering rulers all over the world of Roshar, using his baffling powers to thwart every bodyguard and elude all pursuers. Among his prime targets is Highprince Dalinar, widely considered the power behind the Alethi throne. His leading role in the war would seem reason enough, but the Assassin's master has much deeper motives.
Expected by his enemies to die the miserable death of a military slave, Kaladin survived to be given command of the royal bodyguards, a controversial first for a low-status "darkeyes." Now he must protect the king and Dalinar from every common peril as well as the distinctly uncommon threat of the Assassin, all while secretly struggling to master remarkable new powers that are somehow linked to his honorspren, Syl.
Brilliant but troubled Shallan strives along a parallel path. Despite being broken in ways she refuses to acknowledge, she bears a terrible burden: to somehow prevent the return of the legendary Voidbringers and the civilization-ending Desolation that will follow. The secrets she needs can be found at the Shattered Plains, but just arriving there proves more difficult than she could have imagined.
Meanwhile, at the heart of the Shattered Plains, the Parshendi are making an epochal decision. Hard pressed by years of Alethi attacks, their numbers ever shrinking, they are convinced by their war leader, Eshonai, to risk everything on a desperate gamble with the very supernatural forces they once fled. The possible consequences for Parshendi and humans alike, indeed, for Roshar itself, are as dangerous as they are incalculable." Кино

Dam I'm pretty convinced after that.

Mm
Syl's voice actress really gave her all for this scene.
Really did, I hype up reading this part but god damn I tear up hearing Syl's VA scream "HE IS MINE, I CLAIM HIM" on the GA version.
Absolutely, chills everytime
God I love Syl!!
Bit screetchy
Makes me cry every fucking time
"He's mine, I claim him." Is one of the best lines in the books imo.
Sky and winds are mine, I claim them, as I now claim your life.
yeah theres a reason this clip is so popular ^^
Alongside the Dalinar one (You can not have my pain)
@@Rev0UK1 this scene, you cannot have my pain, and 'honor is dead, but i'll see what i can do' are my favorites
Man I get so excited everytime it's coming now. "I Must leave, a daughter disobeys" gets me so fucking psyched.
My top 2 favorite lines come from Rhythym of War actually. And one is mostly a scene actually.
The one dislike is probably from moash
And another from Vyre. Fuck Moash
Fuck Moash

'YOUR WILL MATTERS NOT!!! You cannot hold me back if he SPEAKS THE WORDS!!!!
THE WORDS, KALADIN! SAY THEM!!!
STRETCH FORTH THY HAND!
Fu*ken fire
The Words, Kaladin! You have to speak the Words!
Man...this brought tears to my eyes. Honestly, I can’t begin to express how amazing this is.
Yup, it got me at “You... will.. not.. have him”
Me too man!
Yup I cried. I didn’t even realize graphic audio existed. No disrespect to Michael Kramer and Kate Reading but this stuff though a little cringe and excessive at times is otherwise AMAZING!!!
Stormlight archive has made me cry so many times.
@@D2ezbmu I enjoy both actually I like going back and forth but Kramer is Kaladin for me
“I will protect… even those i hate… SO LONG AS IT IS RIGHT!” When i read this for the first time i just cried, this moment was so touching and epic to experience, i just love this books. I need so desperate to read the next one
You're right, but Storms you really have no idea what you're missing out on yet. Oathbringer's Sanderlanche is so fucking epic.
Spoilers for Oathbringer
also love the moment when Teft speaks his third ideal
"I will protect those I hate.... Even if the one I hate the most is myself"
It is honestly my favorite personal ideal. Teft struggled so hard to accept the fact that his life was worth living.

When I first listened to this....I thought sil was dead....I thought kal had killed her and I thought he was broken and gone....I was devastated that it was gunna end like this for him and I was glad that if he died he died as he lived and sils spren spirit was coming to bring him to the tranquiline halls.....I had tears in my eyes listening.... But when she claims him full on sobbing....."reach forth thy hand" ... "I can't" ..... "Stretch forth thine hand" fuck .....I broke these books show us how we should be....and Kaladin storm born although fictional shows us that its possible to be flawed and still do what's right!!! Be broken and still help others... He shows that being a good man and a good person isn't about being perfect all the time.... But trying to
Amen brother this is my religion
If I ever decide to get a tattoo "Life before death, Strength before weakness, Journey before destination" is a strong contender

I cried for 10 minutes. This might be the most wonderful moment in fiction.
YOU CANNOT HAVE MY PAIN
Oh buddy do I have news for you in RoW
Topped by Oathbringer & Rhythm of War, imo
@@jmcauley650 Rhythm of War is a masterpiece
@@jmcauley650 yeah rhythm of war ..specific scene with the storm..falling, his father etc (not detailing for spoilers sake)
Can imagine that done in this fashion.
I will never forget this scene and specifically the line about the hallway going dark and kal exploding with light
That is my favorite scene in Stormlight, aside from _I am Unity_ .
This … changes my opinion of audiobooks.
Personally, I listen to the audiobooks for convenience more than anything else. I can't do other things while reading a book, but listening to an audiobook means I can "read" at work after the store closes for a couple hours, while still working.
The Graphic Audio version is really good too, but I find the music to be distracting too. I want MY imagination shaping the image of the book, not the imagination of the Graphic Audio director.
@@COSMEREAUDIO I do use reasonable quality around head phones. It's an audio balance and audio density issue.
To me, and I repeat, TO ME, the music is essentially blaring in the background, distracting from the actual text of the audio.
@@hariman7727 I have the same problem with Graphic Audio; the music is just overpowering to me.
@Jdjdj smith regular audio books are MUCH better. You should be able to find sample chapters of audiobooks too, so you can try without buying.
Or check to see if Monster Hunter International is still free for Kindle and 1.99 for audiobook if you get both versions on amazon. (It's a fun book.)
@Jdjdj smith they don't sound like this. I've listened to ALL of the Stormlight Archive audiobooks, among a variety of other fantasy audiobooks.
When I finally reached this chapter. In my mind all I could think was how could I have missed what was so obvious. What Shardblades actually were. So moving.
Literally, tears down my eyes......one of the best scenes in stormlight archive
this! or when he jumped in the arena :D
@@brandonbudidjaja9440 nope, for me arena scene was epic too, when he says Honor is Dead......but this third ideal scene was on another level.
This or "honour is dead....but ill see what i can do" i damn near fell off the machine i was building when i heard that answer "my sons fight alone" i expected dalinar to jump into the arena and show us that the black thorn may be changed but not dead ......but no in jumps Captain kaladin saved the day like a fuckin legend
From this scene to the end of book 2 is the best part of all fantasy... just so incredible.
My favourites are Sadeas' betrayal and the subsequent rescue by Bridge 4 at the end of WoK and Dalinar basically telling Odium to fuck off at the end of Oathbringer but yes this is an epic moment
@@matthewevans5486 yeah I think "YOU CANNOT HAVE MY PAIN!" will always be one of the most badass scenes in fantasy
@@Ceolis that whole sequence is the first time I can remember going from "well we're right fucked now" to "I think I just heard a god shit it's self" within a couple of pages
*me after listening to GraphicAudio's Mistborn* : Nothing can top this!
*me after listening to GraphicAudio's Stormlight Archive* : Well, guess I was so wrong!
I wanna start mistborn soon. ❤️
Both are absolutely amazing, but I'd say all of the coin 'pings' in Mistborn make the audiobook infinitely better.
Did you start? Mistborn is a bit unpolished when compared to stormlight but still better then most fantasy books.
@@COSMEREAUDIO are you done with mistborn
is it just me who finds the background music to be too loud compared to the voicelines?
I've listened to this book 4 times. I'm a truck driver, today while at work this disc was in the player, literally got the same goosebumps and tears that I did the first time I heard it.
Graphic Audio is so under rated. They are awesome, I love their works. I'm not generally one to get into this kind of book, but their audio production of Brandon Sanderson's works brought me around and kept me riveted. Love these books.
👍
I'm a truck driver too! Fedex wbu?
I've read multiple times that Moash was the dark path that Kaladin could have taken and I hate it so much that people think this way. Kaladin rather committed suicide on multiple occasions than causing harm willingly. The Stormlight Archive is about people being responsible for their own actions. Kaladin blaming Lighteyes despite always behaving like one himself. Dalinar having to deal with Rathalas, Shallan lying to herself about her mother and the first spren she killed. Moash had a tough time, but in the end, we are all responsible for our own actions. Saying we are a product of our environment is just too easy of an excuse.
I'm very intrigued by what I have listened to on this day. With no context I still got goosebumps.
You should check it out the series is one of the best in history
Since you originally posted this, did you read the series?
@@johnhogue9402 Late reply, I know, but even now - 6 months after your post - I admit I have yet to read it.
I fell off reading (or listening to in this case) books some time ago and wasn't in a hurry to look into this (regardless how much I enjoyed it). Though I have recently done some research and was told that I should start with The Final Empire (and its series). I have now got that book, but I have a few books before it in my reading queue.
It may be a while before I reach whenever this particular scene plays out.

the Syl's voice I don't know... To me that's the best of this audio... How can I say it? It sounds just like I imagined it but much better like her desesperation to Express that
like the guy below said, it made come out a couple of tears from my eyes...
He is mine! I claim him!
This scene made me cry for real, such good voice acting!!!
I'm shocked as I teared up aswell! Especially the part where Syl called out to Kaladin
bro i literally never cry and this scene done it..
They wanted to frame Kaladin for the death of Elhokar and destroy Dallinar's faith and trust in Kaladin. That was the plan all along; Elhokars death was a mere instrument in all that. The trap was for Kaladin!
Correct, it was one of many plans hatched based on the diagram, to prevent dalinar from reforming the Knights Radiant!

If you can’t run you walk, if you can’t do that you crawl, and if you can’t do that you get someone to carry you.
God I love syl here. Always the defiant daughter.
I like to think Syl wasn't screaming, more like mystically telling "stretch forth thy hand", don't think screaming works for that, the books doesn't describe it as loud or anything
I agree. Her voice is the only thing I hate about the graphic audio. Her voice and odium. They make odium sound like a whiney bitch lol
@@leevmeealone3360 Yeah especially odium, the way he says Dalinar is cringe, expect Odium to sound like a god or at least something similar to Dalinar himself
Yea fs, I see her having a softer voice and being maybe loud but not screeching
@@sourabhshah5652 yeah In my mind I imagined odium sounding a lot more powerful. Hearing odium's voice on the graphic audio reminded me of how disappointed I was the first time I saw Voldemort's dumbass lookin' face in the movies after having read the books. Lol

Under protest, though. Hehehe. The Stormfather has some serious trust issues. Understandably so, of course.
I thought it was weird when I read it, and again when Michael Kramer read it to me... Syl using the word "thy" is just.... strange. I don't mind it as much in this format though!
I think this is to imply that, in this moment, a flash of her old self is back. Not all, but a hint
This sounded so good, the voice actor for Syl went far and beyond for this performance. Made me tear up at the 'He is mine. I claim him' line. Made me tear up.

This is the third ideal, not the second.
Yes, this is the third ideal of the Windrunners. All the orders share the same first ideal, which is "Life before Death, Strength Before Weakness, Journey Before Destination." The second ideal of the Windrunners is "I will protect those who can't protect themselves."
@@evelynbasham1673 well, technically, "I will protect those who cannot protect themselves" is Kaladin's second ideal. Other Windrunners could have different ones (see the difference between Kaladin and Teft's third ideals)
@@silvermagpie1071 the ideals don't have to be word for word alike, but the spirit of the words should be similar. Kaladin and Teft said different third ideals, but they were both about protecting even of you dislike whom you should protect for moral reasons.
@@evelynbasham1673 yeah, what I said is pretty petty, lol. And for that matter, even Lopen said "I will protect those who cannot protect themselves", so maybe the second one IS set in stone!
@@silvermagpie1071 Not petty, just trying to find the correct context for how the oaths work. Each order's oaths are different, but they do have focused values per order. The words are not as important as what each oath means toward their values. Some orders have more straight forward values, like Windrunners. They are about protecting and leadership. So each level of oaths are going to be in the same spirit. Whereas Lightweavers are all about understanding your personal truth, which will be different for everyone. So they don't have word oaths for each level. Until we know more this is about as much as we can put together. ;)
