"You cannot have my pain!"
Sounds same iconic as, "You shall not pass!"
I love Lord of the Rings and Gandalf is up there with my favorite characters, but Dalinar saying that has so much more weight and backstory and impact imho. When I read Lord of the Rings and got to the exit of the mines part I was sad but didn't have ANYWHERE near the reaction I got from reading the "You. cannot have. my PAIN". That moment sent me into a adrenaline shaking roar all from a book. That is not something any other books do to me.
@@sumbody694 I am talking about it in terms of an iconic moment, and "You shall not pass" is a meme-generating phrase up and down the internet. Of course, more so because of the movies. But sure, Dalinar's "You cannot have my pain" has more depth and weight in so many more ways, I agree.
This was the moment I decided Brandon Sanderson was my favorite author of all time. I loved these books up til this moment but afterwards, waiting for the next one has become a reason to live.

I swear to seek justice, to let it guide me, until I find a more perfect Ideal.
Honestly, as impactful a scene as this is for Dalinar, his third ideal always struck me as very incongruous. It had literally nothing to do with his second ideal at all.
This series saved my life and showed me the way to become whole.
I can not wait until we get to see the Stonewards
will take at least 15 years to get there
@@ahkkha4560 what a journey we have
I finished Oathbringer last week. Stormlight Archive has been a series of religious experiences of increasing intensity. I start Rhythm of War tomorrow and I'm fucking stoked.
My tattoo is the Stoneward glyph. I'm so so ready for them.
Agreed, I was dealing with addiction during Oathbringer. I am almost 1 year and I feel amazing and so much better. Last year I felt trapped. Oathbringer really helped me as well as all of Stormlight so far.
When I read this scene, I remember telling myself that there wasn’t a scene that made me this emotional since the end of ROTK. Sanderson has become Tolkien tier.
IMO Stormlight is the pinnacle of modern Tolkien-esque fantasy, like ASOIAF is for grimdark fantasy.
I would say he have become a better author than Jordan, as Jordan surpassed tolkien then Sanderson surpassed Jordan.
@@sebastian114 Jordan did not surpass Tolkien. Dont know where you got this idea. Jordan is behind in sales numbers, fandom size, legacy and overall book quality. Not trashing Jordan he is one of the best but the slog really showed how he had troubles dealing with character development.
@@frking100 Tolkien invented the genre. Of course he will lead the numbers for a long time. Picasso was an inventor of a style. Have you seen his paintings now? It doesnt mean he isnt a great man anymore. It just means that the foundations he and Tolkien all the same were improved upon by other good modern artists.
@@SkyLordPanglot I did not mention just sales numbers or fandom size. When it comes to lore and world building Tolkien trashes Jordan. Sadly Jordan was pressed for time and his untimely death led to a drop in quality (headcannon). Maybe if he was given time and allowed to further develop his story he would have surpassed Tolkien but even then it would be up to debate. As for Sanderson he is very young (relatively) but his constant world hoping detract from making any of his series a true masterpiece. Maybe the stormlight archives will be it or it will fall in quality like Mistborn did after book 2
So proud of my man Dalinar for this moment.
*You cannot have my pain.* *YOU CANNOT HAVE MY PAIN!*
Those words completely blew my mind after everything leading up to them. Holy shit. Imagine the courage. Just putting it into human terms, besides all the other factors he is facing the monster that has tortured him beyond comprehension, making him shudder, twice. Yet he pulled that out of himself. After all that, he wasn't willing to take the easy way - no matter what
The most important step is not the first, it is the second. - Dalinar Kholin
@@RadiantJoIt’s always the next one
I always imagined Odiums voice to be more inviting and comforting, the voice actor did a good job, but his Odium sounds a little sleazy so it’s hard to imagine his whole “give me your pain” thing would sound as tempting to characters who already know he’s supposed to be evil
The actual audiobook version is great tbh, it's fatherly, and comforting, which makes it seem more likely the right choice to make in cases like this.
Yeah, the performances are actually really great! But I don't like the voices themselves at all.
it sounds like a meme in this ngl
I always pictured him kinda like Saruman from LoTR, the book version, he has magic that makes what he says sound super reasonable and nearly convinces everyone that he was actually their friend the whole time.
I think of Ron Perlman for some reason. Which is also the voice I give Honor, so I don't know if that makes any sense.
Rohirrim charge in the Battle of Pelennor: FINALLY A WORTHY RIVAL, OUR BATTLE WILL BE LEGENDARY
Honestly it's hard to decide between the Cosmere and Middle Earth. They're clearly on the top.
“I will take responsibility for my actions. If I must fall, I will rise each time a better man.” THIS is one of the best lines in all of fiction.
I can’t imagine how hype the fifth book will be if this is just the third

mine was when elhokar almoste said the first ideal. that made me stand up from my chair
@@rectumm OMG Another incredible moment
for me as much as I love this series the best scene ive known in a book is when in wheel of time, Rand tells the flaw the dark one has and explains how the people still fight how he explains about them how they lost things and still fight
“Here is your flaw, Shaitan, Lord of the Dark, Lord of Envy, Lord of Nothing, here is why you fail. It was not about me. It’s never been about me.”
It was about a woman, torn and beaten down, cast from her throne and made a puppet. A woman who had crawled when she had to. That woman still fought.
It was about a man that love repeatedly forsook. A man who found relevance in a world that others would have let pass them by. A man who remembered stories and who took fool boys under his wing when the smarter move would have been to keep on walking. That man still fought.
It was about a woman with a secret, a hope for the future. A woman who had hunted the truth before others could. A woman who had given her live, then had it returned. That woman still fought.
It was about a man whose family was taken from him, but who stood tall in his sorrow and protected those he could.
It was about a woman who refused to believe that she could not help, could not heal those who had been harmed.
It was about a hero who insisted with every breath that he was anything but a hero.
It was about a woman who would not bend her back while she was beaten, and who shown with a light for all who watched, including Rand.
It was about them all.
@@sebastian114 Sanderson's words right there. I absolutely love this scene. This one, and "I have won again, Lews Therin."

This book, especially in the GraphicAudio renditions, is so emotional and rips me apart in too many places. Honestly if anyone was ever deserving of uniting the shards it would be dalinar. In him you have humanity, empathy and compassion despite or maybe because of the man he used to be.
@@abdelrahmanalali5680 There is only a one year timeskip between oathbringer and rhythm but that matters very little. We do not know how long a radiant lives due to their ability to draw in stormlight and heal (zahel is immortal and breath holding is pretty close to what a radiant does) furthermore a bondsmith is supposed to be even stronger than your regular radiant. But the bond that Dalinar has with Stormfather is something completely new which neither know the limits of (no other bondsmith has summoned Honor's perpendicularly). This could mean that Daddynar is slowly becoming Honor (Stormfather is a splinter) and his whole Unity speech makes it seem like he will become the Harmony equivalent in roshar (Harmony being immortal)
@@abdelrahmanalali5680 Dalinar looses the match by not using stormlight (even the stormfather asks why). Healing in roshar and most of the cosmere is based on your mental image of yourself so one could argue that if a radiant believes himself/herself to be a certain age and not be able to get older or younger then he/she could stay that age and their body wouldn't change. Think of Lopen who was missing an arm probably for years and was able to regrow it while kaladin still has his scars. Another way for dalinar to achieve immortality is to make another oathpact and become a new herald. We know that the oathpact was made by Ishar who until now was the most powerful bondsmith but he seems to have lost his powers or was only able to do so with the honor blade but as I said before dalinar and the new stormfather have already surpassed your typical radiant and are probably in the same batting range as heralds. I still believe that by the end of stormlight dalinar will become the Harmony version of roshar and thus basically be a god and he does keep hearing the unite them line but now it is not from the stormfather or his visions.

I am absolutely enthralled by the first 3 GraphicAudio renditions of Stormlight Archive. It is so satisfying and well-acted throughout, but STORMS, the climaxes are so fucking amazing. I got profound goosebumps when Kaladin rescued Dalinar in the first. And in the second, I actually teared up when Syl and Kaladin reunited after the 3rd ideal was spoken (that scene was just so powerful). But this one... just left me with my jaw on my clavicle, staring into open space as the magnitude of the scene played in my mind. I'll never forget the chill I got when I first heard this scene and knew exactly what Dalinar was about to do and, literally right as Syl spoke the words, I said in unison with the GraphicAudio, "Honor's Perpendicularity..." and the giddy fucking smile that stretched on my face as I said it 😆🤯
That was extremely beautiful.... I read these novel a year ago and currently rereading Mistborn these days.
