    Good review! Only issue i have with this is the QXD card complaints... that should really be a positive thing. QXD is much faster and basically gives you unlimited buffer. You can take 200 shoots lift the finger for one microsecond and then fire away 200 more photos. Also it is way faster to load the files into your mac/pc. Nikon should be honored for implementing new memory card technologies.

      QXD cards are excellent! And QXD cards are nearly as good as CFexpress in 2022.

    Hi Faymusmedia
    A question 4 u is it limited 2 record more than 30 minutes in total or is it limited to record 30 minutes at a time ? 4 example i wanted 2 record 3 hours of footage how will i have to do it ????

    • @paganphil100
      @paganphil100 3 года назад

      Street Performers: It does 30 minutes (-1 second) and then stops but you can start another 30 minutes immediately. The reason is to prevent over-heating.

      It's hard to say....there are so many variables that come into play on picture quality. I used to own a D7200 and the picture quality compared to that camera is just as good....I think it is anyway. Your lenses also come into play as well. The best thing I can recommend is go to your local camera store and try it out with your own lenses and see what you think. I personally have zero complaints about picture quality with this camera when compared to the D7200.

    I'm leaning toward the D500 for myself and the D7200 for my wife, what 3 or 4 lens do you recommend. Here is what we are thinking about Nikon zoom 17-55 f2.8 DX G ED, Nikon zoom 200-500 f5.6 ED AR, Nikon zoom 24-70 f2.8 G and the Tokina AT-X PRO D 100 f2.8 macro.

    Love my XQD cards, way more bulletproof than the old CF Cards. You can get Lexar 32GB XQD 440mbs cards for around $100 nowadays

      In Germany I get the 64GB Lexar 440MB/s (read, 400MB/s write) XQD card for around 100€, but the 280MB/s (250MB/s write) SDXC UHS II cards from SanDisk cost the same. So if I had the choice for what card type the second slot is on the D500, I go for the XQD: more rugged and faster. In Pictures the XQD make 200 in a row and the SD "only" 60. But with the SD card I can use the old card readers, thumps up for backward compatibilities.

      32GB ? are people still using such wimpy size cards these days?
      hell i even stopped using my 64 GB Card way at the beginning of last Year?
      i admit i'll allow myself to remain stuck on 128GB for a while as i'm sure many will pass me up buying 256GB But for the rediculous price on 256 ill pass and don't need that much data saved at this point in time camera wise anyways :- :-)

    Hey Corey, Like your reviews keep them coming as you are one of the few who actual walk around and take pictures and show them.
    So I like taking landscape pictures, portraits, sky day/night and maybe going to get into wedding too some day. I do a tiny bit of my son's sports but i would say it is only 10% of what I do and I am more of a 1 shot person then spray and prey.
    My question to you Corey, is how does this stack up to the D750? I am not doing video as of right now and listed above what I like to take pictures of. The D500 is $200 more then the D750, but my worry is the low light. I was on my first family trip (with a D7100) and most of my night time shots at the theme parks didn't turn out and was very disappointing as we planned the trip for 4 years before we went.
    So between the D500, and the D750 what 1 would you recommend for low light, landscape, portraits, sky day/night, vehicles and maybe weddings in the future?
    Lenses are not a big deal as I only have FF lenses right now but can get good crop lenses if the D500 is worth getting more then the D750 is.
    I appreciate any thoughts you might have on this....
    Thank You

At this point, I'm shooting landscapes, wildlife, sports & starting with portraits. So I guess I'm looking for a recommendation if this camera will fit the bill going forward. Hi Corey, I just [urchased a D500. I had a shoot the very next day so, I did take the D500 but just as a backup camera (THANK GOD FOR THAT). I had the strangest experience, I put an SB 700 on the D500 and put it on AUTO TTL, guess what, the flash wouldn't fire! Yesterday for my next shoot, I faced the same issue. So, I made a small change in the Flash. I put the flash on MASTER, and it started working fine. Is this how it's supposed to happen or is it a glitch only with my camera? Please advise.
    The second issue, I set the camera to use the SD card as a "Back up RAW" (as using that in my laptop is easier, but when I inserted the SD in my laptop, there were no pictures in there. It's not backing up.
    Glitch? Or should I take it for repairs?

  • @samuelsmith6804
    @samuelsmith6804 2 месяца назад

    Its 2024 and I still love the XQD card. Don't know what the problem with them is supposed to be, mine lives in the camera and I copy to SD .The D500 camera is one of the all time greatest cameras ever made. I will never sell mine. The only thing I wish it had was the mode dial from the D7500 specifically for the 2 easy-access custom modes. Maybe a vertical tilt on the screen.
    As a stills camera is still perfect. It lacks a bit compared to the latest cameras in terms of video autofocus and in particular higher framerates for 4k and HD formats and IBIS.
    But I would still recommend one for shooting wildlife over just about everything Nikon had to offer right up until to the Z6iii and Z9.

Use it in conjunction with the D750 and D610 for indoor dog show events. Action focus is spot on. One thing to note, the D500 is the first camera with USB 3.0 that I own. That should be cool if I tether it and shoot via Lightroom sometime. Lovin' the XQD. Actually love the camera more each time I use it. I do keep the ISO at 3200 or less for work photos, same for the D750.

Somehow it just does not feel as good to shoot with and the images from it to not look as good as my D3s & D3X bodies. I am minded to sell the Z6 and return to exclusively DSLR bodies. I am really liking the idea of having a D500, & I am seeing very affordable used prices these days. I already have a 120GB XQD card so that can go straight in the D500.

However, although being a crop sensor and minimal ISO improvement, I still love my 24MP sensor on the D7100. I don't know why they lowered pixel count. Whatever argument anyone has, I will wait until they come out with a D500s with a 24MP sensor. I'll be camping out at B&H to get it.

    Hi, I'm having a really hard time choosing between whether I should get a full-frame d750, or the crop d500. Is the d500 any good for landscapes? Do crop-sensors have an impact in landscape photography? Aiming for a more well-rounded camera, which ones the better choice? I'm new at this, really hope someone can give some guidance! Thank you

    • @TriWaZe
      @TriWaZe 7 лет назад

      Only impact you're going to get with shooting landscape with a crop sensor is you may have a harder time getting the super wide shots which landscape photography often requires you to do. Even if you slap a 17-55 on this bad boy you're going to end up with about a 24-70ish. So getting those super wides is pretty much impossible.

    As file sizes get bigger, 4k video becomes sandard and the fps increase people will need faster cards and Cf and SD are at the limit of capability. At some point people need to be forced to move on or risk holding the camera back (see Canon 5D mkIV) I know people don't like upgrading to new cards but if your dropping 2k on a camera what is a few extra bucks for a super fast memory card and now that Canon has not put Cfast in the mkIV it handed Sony and Nikon the market to make XQD the new standard.

    The big lost with the D500 is the loss of the pop-up flash with it's commander mode and the interaction between older Nikon Flashes including the SB 910. No reviewer has addressed this issue, nor has anyone reviewed the new flash system Nikon introduces with the D500 & D5 using the SB 5000.

      Yes, there is a 24-70mm however, because the D500 is a DX, the ultimate photo settings should reflect that to avoid confusion. For example @ 6:45 seconds, the photo specifications read 24mm ISO 100 F2.8 and 1/500. Now, if he was using a 24-70mm, on the DX sensor, the actual photo can't be 24mm? Or is there a DX 24-70mm F2.8 Nikon lens out there?

    you mentioned a thousand times autofocus and cards, did not say much more wise in half an hour. CF cards are old and slow, D500 has an excellent buffer and must have a card with a newer technology

    • @hogtownrocketsled
      @hogtownrocketsled 8 лет назад

      The actual buffer on the D500 is 29 (RAW) shots. Fast XQD's can transfer as fast as it can shoot, buffer limitations and CF cards are pre-XQD history.

    I understand it was sarcasm with the XQD stuff, but I will say putting CFast in a Nikon is like putting a Chevy engine in a Ford. CFast is a Canon thing. XQD is a Sony/Nikon thing (and yes, I do anticipate the next generation of Sony cameras to have some with XQD) and let's be honest, the 200-RAW frames before slowing down on the D500 is due primarily to the XQD. The great thing about XQD is that prices are very similar to high-end SD cards, but the XQD are faster, to the extent that having two XQD slots would have been preferable to two SD slots in this camera., esp. for RAW+jpeg shooting.

      Wh83 hi there
      I have a dilemma and you have all this cameras you mention.
      I am shooting weddings (in daylight and in dark venue conditions) with D800 + D700 that I want to upgrade.
      The question is if to buy D500 because of the Af, or D4/D4s because of High ISO or D810, what's a better choice for weddings ?
      Usually I go up to ISO 6400

    • @JohnDoe69

      For high iso, d500 is not so good in 6400. It works but you need maybe use some noise remover. For high iso: D4. Speed, af, crop (this is maybe good thing) and a huge buffer: d500. There is also coming a new body like D850 or something like that, so if you are think to buy d810 don't pay too much.

      Wh83 thank you for reply. Actually I came to the same conclusion:D4 will be a good choice(1500-2000$ used), especially that I already have D800.
      D4s out of my budget, will buy D4, thank you again

    I don't think this is a very good way of testing a camera geared for action, sports and wildlife photography.
    You could do street photography for Leicas, compact and pocket cameras. Not this one. You need to go in the wild, shoot moving birds, animals, cars on race tracks.
    You wouldn't do this with a waterproof camera meant for underwater diving right? would look irrelevant.

    If you are having such an emotional break down over a new camera using a new memory card (heaven forbid) maybe you can save some anguish and buy a used D7000. Or one of those old cameras with a floppy disk.

      It is considered as a pro camera because very few people can understand and deal with the menu, which if you know how to use it, you will have a very distinguished one. It is water and dust proof, it has the most newest technology, and you have to attach a flash to it. If you don't know how to use flashes, your not going to buy this camera, so it is a pro one.

    I own the camera but this is fanboy nonsense. The 4K is not good because the focus is slow in video and it's a gigantic crop. Fantastic camera but this is not a review.

    • @Faymusmedia
      @Faymusmedia  8 лет назад +1

      Fanboy? Do you really think 4K full frame is a good idea? The D5 is full frame and it crops to 1.5 on purpose. It avoids pixel binning, and a bunch of other artifacts, Line skipping just to mention a few. Before attacking me you really should understand the complexity of a sensor as its not just about a million ISO and having 4K with full frame.

    • @AlbertKel
      @AlbertKel 8 лет назад

      +Faymusmedia no serious videographer consider this camera. It's a sport/wildlife still camera. This camera has a 2.25 crop and wide angle is impossible.It hunts around for focusing in video and is pretty useless for anything that moves. However you can use it for producing good quality video for interviews and stationary stuff.

    • @Faymusmedia
      @Faymusmedia  8 лет назад

      +Alex I never said that it was for professional film. And while I agree with you I shoot on red digital cinema so I don't use this camera to shoot film. That's not what it was intended to do. Also you talk about the focus not being good. I found it to be quite good actually. Why would you shoot auto focus in video? No video camera, digital cinema, or pretty much any camera for that matter was intended to film video with auto focus.

    • @AlbertKel
      @AlbertKel 8 лет назад

      +Faymusmedia let's not argue, I admit that "fanboy nonsense" was to harsh. This camera is definitely pro for sport and action still photography. However, manual focus without focus peaking for video is definitely not consumer friendly. Canons focus system for video is much smoother then this. And a consumer who wanna do mostly video is better off with a A6300 (the overheating issue is not an issue in real life situation).
