Thanks for a great video Tony - was a determining factor in deciding to get a D500 and 200-500 f/5.6 which I'm happily using for some (mostly) bird photography... 500px.com/fivey
How this lens working out for you? I'm looking for something longer than the 16-80 to do wildlife.

Oh Tony, you did it again... another well balanced review! I'm seriously considering whether to get the D500, and reviews like this are extremely helpful.
This is one of the best quality reviews I've seen you guys do yet, and I think you have been doing great stuff for a long time. Very comprehensive yet it moved along at a healthly pace. Thanks for working so hard to put out such useful reviews. I really appreciate it.
Awesome review and great testing as always! I love being able to trust all the content you publish - very methodical and easy to follow. Also loved the part where you predicted the RUclips comments at the very end. It made my day!
Tony. In your great review of the D500, you mention how the lens VR jumps around when you shoot. I had the same issue with mine and it is in the deign. After reading a lot about VR, I learned two things. One is if you have enough shutter speed to not need the VR, turn it off. Two is if you set the lens to Sport, it does not do that jumping around. Also I have learned to use rear button focus and if I have it on regular VR on a non moving subject, to focus then remove your thumb from the AF On so it will not refocus when it moves. Wen I first went out with the lens I got a good number of blurry shots from the sensor moving around and focusing on something I did not want. These things has stopped that. Just thought I would pass it on. Thanks for all your hard work. I enjoy your information and technical info as well. Ignore the people who say nothing but negative stuff. You all are doing a great job. Keep it going. God bless.
First off, thanks Tony and Chelsea for the great review! Your hard work and effort that go into each one of your videos is high quality and much appreciated. As someone starting out in digital, It's easy to get overwhelmed by the info out there. I have literally listened to hundreds of hours of videos from various other sources and your take on the many aspects of photography is spot on in my book. Keep doing what you are doing! Love the book too. I had been seriously looking at the D500, but had some reservations. This review sealed it and helped me make that decision.
The most detailed review ever. I no longer need to looking for d500 reviews now. Excellent review! Thank you guys!
You both do such great work! Thanks again for all you do. I don't think many people realize how much work you must put into making such pro videos.
Excellent review. Most important information covered quickly. Comprehensive. Meaningful comparisons. No long winded stories about the location you chose to shoot. And funny at the end. Thanks!!!
Tony & Chelsea - Thank you for your efforts. This is a lot of work for not much reward and it takes a massive amount of time to do exhaustive reviews and comparisons. But it sure doesn't take much time or effort for a viewer to make a negative or hurtful comment. By the way, your history of Nikon was really good. I hope you will do the same for other companies. Really interesting content. Thanks again.
Beautifully done, love the post scrip. Great to see the success you are having, well deserved.
Hi Tony, really enjoyed this video review and this was one of the reasons I purchased the D500. It is everything you said it is, just love it. I was wondering when you are going to post the Nikon big zoom/wildlife lens testing you mention at the beginning of this review...
Great review and I loved the predictions of RUclips comments about this video LOL. Keep up the great work!
Very thorough review, nice one. Love the ending, you should have a preview of the comments on every video from now on!
The D500 is pretty badass. I shoot Canon, but the D750 and D500 combo would totally cover most professional needs. I'm most impressed by the fact the camera isn't castrated and features WiFi and the touchscreen/tilt screen we all truly want deep down inside. Canon COULD have included more in the 7D2 when they released it and didn't. It appears that Nikon learned from the mistakes of its competitor and released this beast.
+Kevin DiOssi
Let's hope Canon do as Nikon did with the D500 when they release a new 5D camera. Want full frame goodness in that smaller body. 1DX is just too big and cumbersome for my needs.
+The Real J Will already have that combo, it's awesome.
I did not upgrade to the 7Dii from my 7D as I feel there was not enough features to warrant me to spend £1400 on something not that much of an improvement over the original.
It seems Nikon have done what canon should have done !
Nikon seems to be better all over, except I can not shoot what I like because they don't have the MP65 ...stuck with Canon..
Oh Tony, you did it again: Jan 2020 and your videos ROCK! Thanks!
fantastic review, I ordered my D500 yesterday I am so excited!
Oh Tony, you did it again:
a great review and an awesome video. Thank you
Great review! I love your unbiased reviews!
I always find you very informative, thanks Tony
Always great reviews Tony.
Tony, I love how much you constantly pay attention to and critique the ergonomics of cameras. Not many reviewers are as sensitive as you. For instance, your suggestion to change the focus point with just a swipe of your finger across the back screen (instead of the joy stick) makes perfect sense. It's so frustrating in the age of smart phones and sophisticated touch screens that this technology in cameras is moving along at a snails pace. Not without its share of problems, the Leica T has made the most progress in this area. Nikon and Canon are 10 years behind.
Also, other reviews have concluded that the ISO capabilities of the D750 and D500 are very similar. APSC's are getting close to full-frame. However, you said the D750's ISO capabilities are twice that of the D500? Would you please do a side-by-side comparison? Pretty please? : )
how do you make awsome reviews like this......nice work again Tony..thanks
I was waiting for a review like this! Thanks a lot.
Awesome Review. Thank you Tony and Chelsea. Your books have really helped improve my photography. I have been looking to switch up from my D3200 to either the D500 or the D750 and this video really helped me. Thanks again.
You better know what you are doing. That's a gigantic jump
Oh Tony, you did it again... another great video! Thank you.
+MachTwo57 You're welcome!
Stephen Gatley do you use this camera with sigma 18-35 1.8? I have this lense an I think to buy the d500. very interesting how is this pair
Stephen Gatley thanks for your reply! ))
All the best!)
Excellent and honest review, Tony and Chelsea. Thanks a lot
Oh Tony. You guys did it again making a great video, darn You.
Great video review Tony !!!
Great review guys - I see your number one fan has already found the time to watch your review and make a video of his own just to highlight your mistakes!
Great review Tony. I'm chomping at the bit to see your review on the FF Pentax K-1.
Tony & Chelsea, I appreciate every single bit of information you put here. What you share here is so valuable I cannot thank you enough. Your videos are my number one guide to go. Please dont encourage those nonsense people by sharing their comments, they might feel significant. I was waiting for your review before I buy my new camera! I will definitely use your link when ready. You guys are great!
Great great content as always
Thanks Tony!
Hey guys. I love this review, the way it's structured and its pacing. This may be the best review you've done, purely from a technical standpoint.
I own the D750 and I was skeptical about the tilt out display screen. I now use it and like it more than I ever thought I would. Great review as always and look forward to your upcoming videos.
Thank you.
Love your ending about the RUclips comments! BTW: Great review too.
Another great informative vid. Thanks T & C
chin up Tony. Don't let the schmucks get to you. For every jerk there's 10 more of us that find your videos helpful.
I came for the incredibly thorough comparison. But, I stayed for the "comments before they happen" segment. Pure Gold!
Those are some really great wild life shots, Tony and Chelsea!
1st time see Tony at the end, hilarious ! great job, great video and great review , love those bird shots
great review, thank you for all your hard work
Excellent reviews!
I like this video, you covered pretty much everything. Great job Tony.
Love your videos. A lot of good information! Congratulations.
awesome work as always , thanks
Bahahahahaha the ending was fucking brilliant!
The ending was hilarious! Epic!!
@Graxxor Anandro Vidhelssen why
The end is so awesome, thank you !

+Tony Northrup the D500's A7 menu setting allows you to limit the number of AF points that are selectable with the thumbstick. It's not the feature upgrade you requested - which would be a nice upgrade, by the way - but does make scrolling through and selecting an AF point a quicker process.
No, none of those comments you anticipated.
Your videos get better and better - this review was excellent and covered everything I wanted to know (which is a lot).
Thank you both for the info. I was going for the D5 as my next camera but thanks to you I think I maybe going for the D500. Your videos are very informative and as you say "real world" and better than reading them out of a magazine. thank you both again.
Thanks Tony for the great review I got mine last Saturday. Still testing it and having a little problem with snapbrige for Iphone.
I loved the review. Thanks for the great info.
Hi Tony, just wanted to say thank you to you and your family for putting out content. Cheers.
Thanks, and you're welcome!
I agree. This is a lot of work for not much reward and it takes a massive amount of time to do exhaustive reviews and comparisons. And, it sure doesn't take a viewer much time or effort to make a negative or hurtful comment.
Tony, your review was as great and accurate as always, thanx for your work, thanx for your lessons. Greetings from Argentina.
Great review. Well done.
Watched in 2022 just to learn a bit more of my d500, that ending is brilliant with the comments, can you do those again, haha...
Just an epic video, period. Probably the most well produced single episode on Photography on all of RUclips?
Tony, Thanks for the D500 review. will buy one this week from Jessops N Ireland.
excellent review. From seeing many of your videos over recent months, it is apparent that you must work 70+ hrs/week and it pays off in excellent products and videos. Keep up the great work.
Tony you rock. Your videos give lot Knowledge and confidence. Thanks
Great tutorial and compression. Thank you.
many thanks for review, very useful
Oh Tony, you did it again: great review!
I've been waiting for this one ! Spotted it in my Twitter stream :=) YAY
Great video as usual...!
The best comparison video. Nice job
Thanks for the video. It helped me a lot.
Funny bit at the end about the comments :) I, for one, find your reviews spot on and very objective every time. All the best to both of you.
nice review. I love it.
Excellent review. Thank you.
Great review! So excited about the D500.
Chelsea Northrup is absolutely beautiful.
Waouh, the video quality increased impressively Tony. The IQ, the editing, the text reading.
Watching from Trinidad and Tobago, great job
Here is a comment for you Tony (& Chelsea) - Love your work! :)
Although I sub to differing channels on RUclips for photography. This is the only place I go for detailed -- real-world stuff I want. In order to have all of these things asked, and answered in ways.. I myself would do them. And I'm certainly not going out to 20 day purchase all of this gear just to have a look.
So, although not a pixel peeper. I do like to have the real deal on those details when I look for it. Tony always delivers.
Thanks for all you do Tony.. And just to add.. I cancelled the D5 orders and stuck with the D4s models. The price gap vs. pay back just wasn't a justified move at this time with all the differences in costs between feature sets
Awesome.. Great video.. It be awesome if you can do an image comparison to the Sony a6300 and Fuji xpro2...
excellent video the info is good tony
Great work T&C
Well, I've been thinking about getting a D500 for some time now after watching Mark Smith's video's and now that I've came across your video, I have made my decision and it will be my next camera purchase. I have the D7200 and the D810 and I do have trouble with birds in flight with both so I'll give the D500 a shot. Thanks for the great comparisons and a great video!
Can't wait for your nikon wildlife lenses test. I recently borrowed the 200-500mm 5.6 and I absolutely loved it. But since I don't have any comparison I would love to see your review before I put it on this years christmas wishlist.
Tony's review of the d500 totally rocks! Thanks
Really nicely done video, also got a great chuckle from the preemptive RUclips comments.
As you guys have been doing this a while, do you notice when a camera comes along and smashes my lovely 7DM2 that enough people hop over to brands that it is likely to drive down used prices? Should I think of this as a great buying opportunity for a bargain basement Canon 100-400ii?
Thanks for the ending, it was so good. Anyhow, thank you very much for the review!
Hi,
Thank you for this review.
What about the difference in image quality and cropping between Nikon D500 and Canon 5DsR?
Excellent review. Thanks for the good balanced info. Side note: which each video Chelsea es becoming more and more confident as a model, and that allow her to play to her better strengths: stunning. Will you talk about the interesting light configuration that you are using for the portraits ?
Great review, that ending that was -- Hilarious.
LOL, love the comment preview at the end. Thanks for the review. I was seriously looking at the D7200, but I think I will stretch for the D500 and learn into it.
That last bit was clever. I like every one of your videos!
Nice A7R II footage, what lenses are you using?
Thanks for the review I am going to buy this Nikon now.
Oh Tony! You so rocked it on the comments at the end!! You made me laugh so hard!! Great review as always!
Great Review, great insights based on real world experience, thanks
Great review tony and chelsea. i wanna ask if the nikon d500 has the u1 and u2 custom user modes?
Another excellent review! I'm really looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the Nikkor 200-500mm too. I recently bought it and with my D7100 it is great, I imagine on the D500 it's going to be a combination that is tough to beat.
D500 and the 200-500 is fantastic. The 500mm f5.6 sp and d500 is totally awesome.
awesome review
Hey Tony and Chelsea, great video, I really appreciate all the time, effort, and specific detail you guys put into your work. I just have a question hoping you guys can help me and maybe others. I want to get the D500 primarily for sports, however im not sure what lens would fit the job. Is it possible of you can tell us the lens you used specifically for the Auto Focus test? I read in your book you recommended the Tamron/nikon 70-200 2.8 lens but my worry is the Tamron being slow and i believe both the lens don't truly have a full 200mm. Is that something i should even worry about or not? Whats your guys opinion? Oh and this might be asking to much but a budget over $2500 isnt possible for me /:
Again thank you for your time and support, awesome videos/books!
Really good review! Keep up the good work. Seems Nikon is stepping up in the APS-C market with a really nice piece of equipment. Wonder what canon will answer with? 7Dmk3?
Good video very interesting review.. Well done!
Nice video, I would like your opinion, I have crop sensor lenses , and dont want to change them. For landscape photography , do you recommend D500 or D7200?
