I’m going to build one of these for my Dad. He has a hard time finding a mug he can grasp with his bent up arthritic fingers so I’ll make it with a handle he can fit his whole hand into. Thanks for all your instruction!
Started pottery last week with little knowledge, but it has been so much fun jumping feet first into something new. Your videos have been helpful and easy to digest for someone who has never worked with clay before. Keep the videos coming! Thanks again!
She does such great videos. I had what felt like 100 bubbles in recycled clay when I rolled it out. It was my first time recycling clay. The next time, when I layed the very wet clay out to dry some on a plastic cutting board before wedging it, I slammed the cutting board down a number of times to force the bubbles to the surface, like what you do when you pour cake batter in pans. It really helped. Then I cut it in strips and slammed each down, one on top of the other. It was to force any bubbles out the sides. Then I wedged it. It made a big difference. I do follow how she let's her clay dry completely before soaking it and recycling it.
This is an excellent video. You are so low key and easy going and you show how to make this mug simply with a normal person approach that can be easy to relate to. Thanks for doing it!🙂🙂🙂
I knew nothing before I watched your video and the first thing I made was a cup using this technique and it's helped me so much just knowing how to begin. Brilliant tutorial. Thank you x
Love this video! I just began taking wheel classes, but wanted to learn slab work as well. Your tutorial is so helpful. I have made three mugs, so far, using your techniques. Keep the videos coming! Thank you!!
I am trying to make a pythagorean cup and this was very helpful. I went completely over the top trying to make it all bond perfectly because i underestimated how good it all stuck together. Thanks
Super helpful. I took a pottery workshop some months back and just ordered some supplies to try hand building on my own. Can't wait to try making this!
Hey!! Thank you for this course!! I am going to try making a drip coffee maker. I will make the conical l thingy and the jug. I will use your techniques! Thank you again for your video. Your mug came out so good!!
I loved watching your video Pottery to the People. I love working with DAS modeling clay and clay, and I wanted to develop my learning and I found you and it was wonderful, because you teach very well and I am sure that I will be able to do things better with your videos. Thank you and much success. I loved your Instagram and I will follow you. Success always! Hug
Thank you so much for mentioning the dog hair! ha ha I am just starting out and it was stressing me out so much! This is a great video! i cant wait to try!
oh my GOD this video was so good it gave me those funny stomach butterflies at one point when you cut to the mitered 45 knife cut, I can't wait to try this. edit: Trying to limit myself to one question... what did you glaze it with? I have some grey natural clay I collected that seems to pit fire buff or yellow but I was hoping to put something simple and natural on it next time to get something wild looking like yours
Thank you for all. I would like to know about pottery from the beginning, that means starting from how to select the soil for pottery to producing the product. please try to inform me how to begin.
Silly question but do you not still need to wedge when rolling out a slab? (I know you said to pop the bubbles, but I thought it was a necessity to wedge clay before use. Does the compression of the roller stop the need for this?)
You should always wedge the clay unless it comes straight out of a new bag of clay. Rolling it out without doing this will usually result in a lot of air bubbles that you can’t see and the pot will not be as strong.
Oh cool, you're German? I've just started learning german. Also idk why this video showed up in my feed. I've never done anything pottery related buy I guess I might now. Would it be fine if I just used the clay down at the stream, if you know?
I source mine online from Rocky Mountain Clay if you’re planning to kiln fire it. Make sure to get a clay that can be fired to the desired cone. If you aren’t kiln firing, you can pick up some air dry clays at some decent craft and art supply stores like Blick.
Hey! I love your channel! It's so helpful for beginners and inspirational. One question, where I can find templates for sizing and cutting the right measure for making mugs? Thank You!
Hi Mia, your videos are great and very useful! Well done! :) I have a question, is it necessary to wedge the fresh clay which has just been unpacked? I usually do but I know people doesn't, so I was wandering. Thanks!
glaze and then it's very important that it is fired in a ceramic kiln to at least 1000 degrees celcius. No other technique will make food-safe pottery.
That's so lovely to hear! Yes, the bone dry pieces can be just left out as long as you need until you have access to a kiln. Just be careful they don't get wet or bumped because they will be fragile! Hi from Berlin!
It's not a great idea to keep dry bits of clay for making slip as breathing in clay dust can cause silicosis. Instead, make a batch of slip and keep it in a slip trailing bottle or just a tub like an old yoghurt pot. This keeps it wet so no danger from clay dust. I have slip that I made almost 2 years a go in a squeezey bottle and it's still usable immediately without any extra mixing.
Also she didn’t tell anyone not to wedge, just that she didn’t. People are lazy and sometimes you don’t feel like it. If it’s a fresh cut of clay it’s fine not to wedge

Likewise, just starting too. I feel like the more you can learn from others the better you will be.
I especially like the indentations you made with your fingers. Thank you for showing the finished mug. So many don’t and it is frustrating.

I love your way of teaching! Your tutorial is so clear yet relaxing.
I knew nothing before I watched your video and the first thing I made was a cup using this technique and it's helped me so much just knowing how to begin. Brilliant tutorial. Thank you x
I’m so glad to hear! 😄
Hmm, ceritanya bikin mug slab sendiri nih. Kayaknya asik juga ya buat coba-coba. Tapi nggak nyangka ternyata ada DIY pottery segini seru. Keren sih!
A well-explained and demonstrated tutorial - thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very nicely and simply explained...thank you

This is an excellent video! Super clear instructions, and you've shown an easier method for making the base than I've been using, so thank you! :-)
You're very welcome!
I agree re base technique-so much easier and less stressful. Thank you
That makes sense to bevel the edges! I wasn't shown that but going to try it next time!
Super helpful. I took a pottery workshop some months back and just ordered some supplies to try hand building on my own. Can't wait to try making this!
You can do it!
super nice, just what I was looking for, thank you!!!
Love it. Gonna grind this week to make some charcoal and rebuild my clay kiln, then my goal is to make a father's day mug for, yknow, father.
I love this video, thank you for all tips and clear demo, many thanks n keep it up!!!
omg the dog hair problem, I was always really conscious about it hahaha. glad it is not just me
hahah yes it's no problem :)

It turned out so beautiful! ❤️
I couldn't find the link for making a wedging board. I love your videos, than you for doing them.
i'm surprized it didn't shrink at all, at least not visibly. Well done, I loved the piece and i'll be trying it. Thanks
It definitely shrinks! About 10%.
I am so glad you are back :) I am a beginner and learn so much from your vids
Awesome! Thank you!
thats a good mug man
Thank you so much for mentioning the dog hair! ha ha I am just starting out and it was stressing me out so much! This is a great video! i cant wait to try!

Exellent explanation. Thanks.👌☺
Thank you as always!
i love slip!
Excellent video, thank you for sharing!
Where is the make your wedging board video link you mentioned?
Hey I'm trying to get into pottery and I'd like some starting tips and tricks and know more about pottery wheels
I lost track of the seam on the side, but I'm imagining you put the handle over it.
So beautiful 😍 PLEASE can you show me how you glaze this cup , can we do it at home ?
Here's some info about how you can glaze from home: ruclips.net/video/c8ET60elLBc/видео.html Just find a glaze with speckles in :)
Pretty!!
Thanks!
oh my GOD this video was so good it gave me those funny stomach butterflies at one point when you cut to the mitered 45 knife cut, I can't wait to try this.
edit: Trying to limit myself to one question... what did you glaze it with? I have some grey natural clay I collected that seems to pit fire buff or yellow but I was hoping to put something simple and natural on it next time to get something wild looking like yours
It's just a white glaze with some blue speckles in it. The darker clay helps to give it more depth :)
@@PotterytothePeople thanks for the reply!!
Hi, is the mug finishing is waterproof? What do you use for that
Brilliant videos, thank you so much! How thick is the clay for the slab mug please? I'm guessing about 6mm?
You are awesome!! ❤️ Thank you❤️
Fantastic! This was a super introductory video, so thorough. Thank you so much for making it. How much do you think the mug weighs?
Thanks ❤
Can you explain when to slip for a handle and when you can skip that step? Thanks!
I'm binge watching your videos. How come you couldn't go to your slip bucket and take out a couple ounces for slip?
this looks *good*
Thank you!
Thank youiii
You are very golden
Aha! Found your answer in another comment, 5mm, thanks!
I couldn't find the link for making a wedging board. Could you help with this?
How dry is your clay to get the perfect circle?
Thank you for all. I would like to know about pottery from the beginning, that means starting from how to select the soil for pottery to producing the product. please try to inform me how to begin.

I agree with what michele said!

Has anyone told you , you look like Breda from the last kingdom ☺️
Can you post a link to where I can buy that clay?
What Are you rolling on?
hi, is it possible to make a heart shaped mug with slab pottery? my first one i kinda freestyled so logically made the base first instead of the body.
can you please link the glaze used?
what board are you working on ? Is it plywood or mdf?
I call it a wedging board. It's just normal wood wrapped with canvas. Here you can see how I make it: ruclips.net/video/ttePyXBvCTI/видео.html
I use my ruler as a square, but it's worse than eyeballing usually.
Thank you 🌹👍
what name of this clay?
The clay from Carl Jager? ;)
Start of the video: "Going to make this tiny little mug"
15 minutes later: "This is starting to be a very beefy mug"
Very simple instructions. Great video. I am a beginner. What clay do I ask for at the store?
I source mine online from Rocky Mountain Clay if you’re planning to kiln fire it. Make sure to get a clay that can be fired to the desired cone. If you aren’t kiln firing, you can pick up some air dry clays at some decent craft and art supply stores like Blick.
Good quality clay..
Super, helpful as always! Danke!!
Oh yeah, those dog/cat hairs... I gave up aswell :P
haha oh yes

What kind of clay does she use?

it’s not necessary:)
What do you coat or seal it with thats food/beverage safe? Thank you!

Hi :) i love your channel só much! It has been my company this quarantine

Definitely need to show wedging or at least mention it.
I don't usually wedge when the clay is fresh from the bag... #lazypotter ;) If you handle it right it will be fine.
lockdown...lol.
Sorry but bad advice not to wedge. If you miss a bubble your pot will explode. Yeah? Take one minute and wedge first.
moisture causes explosions, not air bubbles 😉
Also she didn’t tell anyone not to wedge, just that she didn’t. People are lazy and sometimes you don’t feel like it. If it’s a fresh cut of clay it’s fine not to wedge
Not another mug!!!! How about a jug or pitcher????
