- Hello everyone,
In this video I show you how I make ceramic plates using stoneware clay.
Including tips and tricks for pottering at home.
You don’t need any special tools or pottering wheel for this project!
The plates I created in the video are food safe and can even be washed in the dishwasher!
Stoneware clay needs to be fired in a kiln, if you don’t have your own, check out www.kilnshare.com to find one in your area or ask google for a pottery studio in your area ;)
The clay I used for this project is a STONEWARE CLAY with 25% chamotte in white.
To decorate my ceramics I used:
GREEN GRANITE liquid glaze by “BOTZ” amzn.to/3oWJlmj
BEIGE GRANITE liquid glaze by “BOTZ” amzn.to/3AKh1Gs
GREY BASALT liquid glaze by “BOTZ” amzn.to/3p0aMvp
I also used a Pottery Tools Starter Set, similar to this one: amzn.to/40TGRlR
These are affiliate links, in case you want to buy the materials and support me at the same time :)
The pieces were fired at 1250 degrees celcius.

Finally finding a hobby that quantifies how much I love myself. 😄😄😄

You made me want to make my own beautiful plates so bad, Jana! I wonder if any beginner could do that and how much utensils and tools are needed to start this hobby. Too bad you don’t have many videos, I found them super clear and explanatory and you’re so talented!
Dear .....
Don't know your name but I am very grateful to you for making people aware of the danger of working with Clay and glazes.
Thank you..
It's great, simple and clear. Exactly, this is the easiest way to make neat plates. And if you need to make a more correct shape, you can simply place the layer on a regular plate.
Hi jana I'm from India 🇮🇳 I really love your work.... I'm 40 years old and mother of 2 teens... Now I get time for me time I think so 😜.... I want to learn this clay work... Your video is helpful for me 😊
Beautiful results! I love this organic look over sets that match perfectly.
Glad you like it!
Yes me too. I really looooove the organic look!
Hello Jane, Although I’m just now watching this video, it’s January 2024, I’m super excited to start working with clay again - I took a beginning course but the COVID changed my ability to continue. I will now look into it again!! Thank you for your lovely video - it was very inspiring👍🏻🤗👏🏻💕!!
Please make a video on how you built the slap slicer!
Those plates are beautiful. I love that green color. You are very talented and inspiring. Thank you for your tutorials.
Love their shape and colour
Jana, pls come back to youtube. Love your videos 💜
Thank you! I will! As soon as my little newborn let's me ;)
me encantan tus trabajos saludos desde Lima Peru
I really like the organic earthiness of your plates. Will need to to the cups in a similar fashion.
Please continue the vidéos! 🙏🏻🥰
So beautiful 😍, could you do some on cups please? And a video showing us how to makd different size plant pots? I'd love to know and I'd love to know how much I would need for each pot plant. Also could you please explain where you get your clay from, I know you can get didn't types and it's all a bit confusing for a beginner 🔰
These are beautiful 😍.
I'm making some porcelain jewlery watching RUclips:)
اخ احبببببب على فيديوهاتك😩😩😩😩❤️
🤣♥️♥️ me too i love her work
Really nice video. One thing you didn't mention that people trying this should keep in mind is that the clay will shrink - and more than you think it will. So if you want plates of a particular size, start out making them approx 12% bigger than that. Your plates look lovely and I'm going to try this even though I do have a wheel. :)
the plates look beautiful! thanks for this video so well put together - simple, easy to follow and well explained:D
Thank You ❤
Awesome work Jana....🥰🥰😍😘😘😊😇☺☺🤗🤗

Love it!!!!
Very nice and organic looking plates. And they look really nice with food on them.
As you do i bring my greenware and bisc glazed ceremics to a kiln service. How do you transport your glazed bisc ware? I stack and put soft plastic bags in between. Maybe you have a better advice?

they are so beautiful 😍😍
Oh Its so amizing I love it keep make more vidios pleas
What a thrilling post!
Hello! Recently addicted to your videos,😍 very much explainable. Thank you.
Please clarify my question. Shall we glaze air dry clay incense burner or holder. Will the heat or fire affect the glaze. Have a great day😊
Air dry clay should be painted, not glazed. Glaze must be fired in a kiln to become joined with the clay and become ceramic. Depending on what your air dry clay is made of, it could burn, melt, or worse. I would NOT use air dry clay for an incense burner for the same reason.
so beautiful! I wonder what are the costs of letting it fire in the studio
Thank you! I think that's hard to say in general. I would assume that prices can vary a lot depending on the area you live in and who offers the burning service. In my area you pay around 6€ per kilo per firing.
@@jana_storm thank you for the answer. I think that's a very reasonable price.
And thank you for your work - you are so inspiring !
Fabulous plates - love the shapes and colours x
Wow. Now I really want to try pottery! 😍
Love the plates! And you explain so well!
Love them 😍
This is great,Can I use acrylic color and any glaze for plates?

Hey jana! do you know how many time can spend a piece in bone dry state before going to the first firing ? Thank you !
beautiful work!
are those then dishwasher safe?
Thanks
You are amazing. Thank you for making these videos. :)
Beautiful!
The most helpful video I have come across and the plates look beautiful! Just wondering if you are able to share the link to where you buy your stoneware clay? Thank you 😊
Thank you so much! I'm always buying it in my local pottery studio :)
they look awesome! do you put them in the dishwasher? or is it hand wash only? I might add some to my handmade but purchased collection :D
Thank you! They are dishwasher safe as they are fired at 1250°C ;)
Beautiful! Can you wash these kind of potteries in the dishwasher?
Yes you can!
What's your Instagram account as the link on your RUclips doesn't work. This tutorial is excellent!
thanks for letting me know! My account is @jana.storm
I love💙💙💙
That was a wonderfully thought out and well presented video. I love your new plates. Im inspired to make myself a dinner set also.
Lovely Video ❤️
question: once your pieces are bisque wear and before glazing them I see you wash them by fully submerging them in water. Do you have to wait till they are completely dry again before glazing?
Bisque ware dries extremely fast within a few minutes. But the glaze is wet anyways, so it doesn't need to be super dry before you start glazing.
Hi Jana.... I am from India. I really love your works. You are very creative person. I like to do this kind of craft works. Where can I get this air dry clay?
Hi Amelia, thank you very much!
This is not air dry clay but stoneware clay. It needs to be fired in a kiln. I buy mine I a local pottery shop.
@@jana_storm sorry for my mistake. I have no chances for fired in a kiln here. So I like to make some potteries which you have already explained in your previous videos with air dry clay. But I don't know where to get the clay.
Maybe you can order it online or ask in a crafting store? Just be aware, that air dry clay is not food safe and can't handle water so well. hope you find some ;)
@@jana_storm Okay Janna thanks for the information.😊
@@ameliapeter3408 Hi Amelia, you can find air dry clays on Amazon India. I have used Fevicryl clay before. The box has two packets, one containing a resin other has a hardener. So, you have to mix both the clays together to get an air dry clay.
Can I use porcelain clay the same way,
and if yes where can I order it from?
Love your vedio❤❤
Hey Jana! This video is fabulous!! I just have one kinda silly question as a newbie. If I want to add a pattern or just paint in a different color, would that step be after the glaze? Are vinils ok for painting ceramics? Thank you!!
Hey Lemi, thank you! An easy way to colour clay and paint patterns with is using "engobe" (basically coloured slip). It is applied onto the leather hard clay before the first firing. Hope that helps :)
@@jana_storm bonjour
2 questions, est ce de l’argile ?
Et si oui est ce qu’elle sèche a l’air où vous le passer au four pour le séchage
Merci
I am from a place where clay is always available but they are maroon in color. I am wondering what clay is being used in your projects?
I'm using a bright stoneware clay with 25% chamotte. Hope that helps :)
😊😊😊 v e r y n i c e
Hi Jana thank you for the amazing video! May I ask how many jars of glaze you use for how many plates? I'm trying to figure how many pots of glaze to buy!!
This is great but I am confused by the amount of different stoneware clays my local supplier has.
Would this work?: ''An all purpose grogged buff stoneware for oxidised or reduced firing. Throws well.Smooth Texture.Buff.'
Could you make stuff from this? Yes. However, this clay may not be the best for a complete newbie, as reduction fireing is a more advanced technique. Why don't you ask for help at the store? Or ask your teacher what they would suggest.
Can you put clay in microwave or dishwasher after it’s been kilned ?
How can I fire my ceramics at home? Cant find kiln near me.
Is there a way to keep that raw, natural look but also make them stackable?
Glaze is not required. If a clay object is fired without glaze, it is called "raw".
Hi , i have dry clay but i just knew from you that dry clay is not safe for food stuff , and What if we use a ceramic what is the substitute for the oven !
How do you transport the glazed pieces before the glaze firing? I use dip glaze in the studio, but I would think transporting at that stage would be quite hard. Is your brush on glaze more stable perhaps?
PS: I like your makeup, would you do a makeup tutorial?
I agree, it's a bit tricky. I wrap them loosely in some newspaper and put them in a box, but sometimes I feel its hard to get super flawless glaze like that. But hopefully one day I will have my own kiln ;)
PS: thank you! But I think I stick to the crafting for now ;)
Love much :)
hey, komme auch aus ibk, wo kaufst du deinen Ton und wo lässt du ihn "brennen"? würde gern anfangen mit ein bisschen töpfern
