I saw you on youtube for the first time about 3-4 months ago, I thought the way you are teaching the swing made more sense than anyone that had coached my son. I watched all your teaching videos and had my son try it. over the last month he has hit so much better, and he said it feels batter now. He went from hitting in the low 70 to hitting mid 80 in just 1 month. So thank you for what you are doing on youtube, I hope it helps a lot more kids hit better.
My coach in college made me stop switch hitting because I couldn't stay balanced while swinging on 4x4 plank. Have always regretted not sticking with it
BONDS DID NOT SWING AS HE STRODE! He would stride, plant, and then swing; still loading his upper body during the stride. Barry also did not bring his front foot in that narrow on the toe tap. He would start about shoulder width, toe tap, and then stride. And Barry was never “off balance” on a good swing. On his follow through his back foot would move toward the plate 8” or so as a counter balance, but he wouldn’t cross the plate, or stumble like you do sometimes.
Hi, Coach, Is the bat with the shaved down barrel just something you use for instruction because it's lighter to swing-like using a fungo-or do you use it to hit with to better teach yourself to hit with the center of the barrel?
@Albert Van Dellen, answering for Rich in case he doesn't see your question... I seem to recall Rich talking about how the flat bat helps determine whether or not a hitter is getting their bat to full speed immediately at launch by listening to the wind friction. Basically if you hear the heaviest wind sound starting behind you and carrying to the plate, you're doing it right. If you hear it over the plate to out in front of you you're "pushing" the bat through the zone and that is not HLP.
Hey teacherman where is your facility located I want to come and learn more better batting fundamentals live in person because if it’s working with me just watching you I could only imagine what it would be like in person. How can we come to your facility?
Balance, destructive? Huh, trying running to first base after you’ve fallen off “balance”. This technique maybe ok for less than two strikes, but anytime your trying to protect or move runners over or hitting a pitch letter high cause the hit and run is on, I highly don’t this swing works. If there is video of the aforementioned scenario, please post. Cheers.
The back moving slightly toward home plate is a counter balance, not off balance. If you watch Bonds when he really drives a ball his back foot does move slightly toward the plate but he’s not off balance he’s maintaining balance. This breakdown wasn’t the best.
@william brannigan, maybe you should be a little more open minded. The swing starting AS you step is at the same time. If I squeeze my hands together AS I am walking, then it’s at the “same time”. He didn’t say they take the same amount of time. They fire OFF at the “same time”. I also understand what your saying but sometimes people use a different word(s) to explain something then you or I might use. But they are trying to say the same thing👍😁 God bless & have a great day!👋
My older brother went to Rod Carew for private hitting lessons. The man said to be finishing out over the plate. Carew said specifically, you should be falling over, through the plate. Don't be afraid to finish out over the plate "off-balance".
What are you talking about? Bonds swing looks nothing like this. Nothing you say makes any sense from a physiological stand point. Steps and swings same time. 🤣🤣🤣
@Luis Manuel Reyes and? Judge doesn't look like that either. I'll admit his approach can be effective mentally for a hitter to think about, but not actual execution
@@luismanuelreyesRDyou can coach an all time great or be an all time great and still teach misinformation. Steph Curry taught in his shooting master class to shoot with your fingertips not letting your palm touch the ball, but he doesn’t even shoot like that lol
Ok, where to start with this one?! Barry Bonds was a great hitter (NOT the greatest ever) and had ideal mechanics, but...the records he set in the early 2000's were largely due to the fact Bonds was a blatant PED cheater. Also, when this guy compares his balance to Barry Bonds balance, well, I had to pick myself up off the floor! True, Bonds used a bat dip but didn't start his swing from there. He dipped, but then moved his hands to the position most every big leaguer moves them to--direct line from hands to front shoulder, wrists cocked, knob at catcher, back elbow pointed but parallel to ground, bat at 45 degree angle and barrel slightly behind the helmet. So, this guy is correct about most everything in relation to hitting mechanics but is no genius; he simply studied Bonds and teaches what he saw Bonds do. No real innovation here.
@@ManuelB777 He's not in the HOF because he cheated. The voters have correctly assessed that his conduct does not merit induction, despite his performance. So it is YOU that knows nothing...
@@brandongonzalez_ Nope. His numbers from 1986 to 1999 (Pre PED): .272 BA, 445 homers. Excellent but by far the best ever. His Godfather, Willie Mays, in his first 13 full seasons (1954 to 1966): 515 homers, .315 BA.
Is there a video showing optimal hand placement pre load and during load? I feel like I might be holding my barrel too far over my back. But then again there are people like Trevor story and Rafael devers who hold their bat far above their head too.

Love this and you and I have talked about this! He said ITS A BALANCING ACT and nothing could be more true! Thanks Mr Rich! LOVE THIS
You should do a breakdown of Ken Griffey Jr’s swing. I would like to know your thoughts on it.

HLP is only "off balance" AFTER nuking the baseball.
Yep
I am from Austin Tx, do you have anyone teaching in our area or how do you teach this game changing technique when a kid is not local? Thanks, Robert

I have been doing this in my tee work but with front toss and game situations I can’t seem to get it right. Can someone help me ?
Would you say that this is similar to the way Ruben Sierra would swing late in his career?

I have no problem with your balance. It’s your head looking up at the sky. Now that’s dangerous when trying to hit a moving ball.
Bonds had a productive swing, but it didn't become special until he added the juice.
Steroids sir Stero
that helped but bonds is definitely the best hitter to ever do it.
