The formula for success in football is not all about building a team around a star player. Neither the Barcelona, with Neymar, Suarez & Messi or the Iniesta, Xavi, Barcelona were a "one star" team (especially the latter, where teamplay was KEY to success, NOT ego & individual play). The CR7 Real Madrid era had the best midfielders and defenders to ever play the game. Messi is 100% NOT a egoist player, could be argued for Ronaldo, and Mbappe is not even close to those two. Sure, some games have huge individual performances but at the end of the day having a structured team with both solid defence and offense is what wins championships. Blue Lock is fun but it's very unrealistic.
You're actually right, I feel like I shouldve changed my wording because yeah of course a team isnt ONLY run by 1 player. But you cant deny that some players are able to inspire their whole team. and I think you need some kind of sense of self importance to be that leader figure. In a literal sense yes its a team sport so of course the overall performance of every podition matters, but some teams do better when they are all inspired by a certain star player I think ill try to explain this point better again on part 2
Cap Messi could be considered an egoist, look at many of his solo goals there are many moments where he could have passed with a guaranteed goal but he didn’t and his team mates don’t argue because they know it’s Messi and I think the reason people consider Ronaldo an egoist is because he talks outside the game and of course Messi isn’t as much of an egoist as described in bl because it’s an anime and everything is exaggerated
@@K_dawgerrmessi doesn't pass the ball in certain situations because in most cases he is the best person to take the shot as he has much superior technique than others. Doesn't have anything to do with ego.
@@jishnuadhikari5234 To be a player of that calibre for a long time and not succumb to pressure while keeping your composure nearly every game, you need to have ego. I don’t think Messi will ever be or has ever been as egotistical as Cristiano Ronaldo but an ego is what you need to be the best. Maybe he’s not showing it outwardly like CR7 but he 100% has an ego. Messi’s shy off-the-field personality makes people think he doesn’t have it but you can have an ego regarding something you love and know you’re the best at and still admit that there are other things in life where you’re imperfect. Messi’s key is to be humble (outwardly) without humbling yourself (inwardly) and for that, he needs to feed his inner ego.
I think another thing about blue lock that people need to understand is that it’s from the perspective of a Japanese football fan. The outlandish claims for sure are overdone for narrative, but the core message is something that is meant for aspiring Japanese football players.
If you read the manga, blue lock description of football gameplay is actually accurate.. but the narrative when playing football + all the animation like glowing eyes or lightning make people think its not accurate or just make things up...this method works as shonen sport
I know that dolphins are his favourite animals and his name means something along the lines of ‘a revolving, happy bee’ but that was unrealistic asf like his reaction speed in the first ep
Before the WC finals, blue lock episode just came out. In that episode, Isagi scores a crazy anime type-shit goal. Whats even more crazier is Mbappe scored strikingly similar goal and i was just flabbergasted. That was one crazy hell of a night.
6:50 in the manga chigiri has a golden zone that lets his goal scoring oppertunity increase waay moore kinda like messis favourite position to shoot in
Funny enough blue lock actually has a lot of similarities in how teams cultivate their talent. Only the strongest survives and gets to be on Real Madrid, Barcelona etc. your friends are also your rivals if you slip up for even a moment someone else will overtake you and if you can’t hang well you get tossed aside and replaced by someone else. It’s pretty similar in that aspect actually, but it’s also obviously exaggerated a lot and of course also is an anime of course so that’s to be expected. But it’s really awesome and super fun to watch!
i feel like everybody forgets ego only said the striker has to be an egoist not the rest of the team and blue lock is meant to breed the most egotistical Striker
How dare a pretentious, not even well known youtuber talk to me about my one and only sports manga and anime I ever watched and how it has relevance to real life football. Subscribed and liked
As a football fan Blue Lock does not make sense but the thing is it does. Japan is a team who struggle winning world cup matches and it is not because that their teamwork is bad but they need a pure striker who can give goals rather than the team winning just barely by hanging on, saw the world cup this year , they got that far on teamwork if they got a world class striker they can be one of the powerhouses of football
This video was very entertaining and has very good editing! I checked your RUclips channel and saw that you just started uploading these essay type videos and don't have many subscribers, So I wish you the best of luck! keep up the good work!

Never stated that je was better he just won the Balondor because he won the world cup and you allready know FIFA has a massive bias towards The world cup
As a football player, fan and enthusiast born and raised in Argentina (a football-obsessed culture) I just hate the whole 'egoism' part so much. It's supposed to be a commentary on japanese society which frowns massively upon such things, but it doesn't reflect the reality of football, one of the most tactically developed team sports out there. Sure, there is a certain level of self-confidence that is necessary to operate at an elite level, but that's the thing, that's the bare minimum. If anything, at a high enough level, it is precisely tactical and team awareness, communication, game-reading skills (which are essentially people-reading skills) and such collective play skills which make the great stand out from the good. It's literally one of the biggest differences between Ronaldo (pure ego) and Messi (ego+teamplay) and what basically makes Messi stand out above everyone else.
I mean, I didnt say ego was ALL YOU NEEDED. I was saying that it has SOME truth to it. And even with all the ego talk in Blue Lock there is still A LOT of teammwork shown. Even the show knows you cant win on your own. (Barou may be egotistic but he has passed many times when he absolutely had to)
Exactly, there's a reason why Ronaldo's in Saudi Arabia whilst Messi's still looking at playing high level European football. Confidence is mportant but key egoism like in Blue Lock is going to have you end up having a career like Ballotelli which is annoying how most of the fanbase go over the top with the whole egoism thing
You're actually way off both about football and how accurate this anime actually is. Just like every other video essay on it, they miss how accurate this anime is as an analogy for accademy football Football teams (other than really 2019/20 Chelsea) are not built around one player. Even in his prime, Messi's barca was not built around him, as they had such good players making up that core. He was just able to make himself stand out. There are two reasons why this anime does make sense in a egoist way. 1. In a team full of superstars (which Bluelock tries to show), it's about being egotistical enough to believe you are the best and try to influence the game rather than just relying on the collective strength of your team. e.g. if you are a team like Madrid, instead of blaming losing to a Raye Vallorca on the team not running at 100% or the manager, you blame yourself and work on improving your game 2. How a player in attacking positions need to take the initiative at times. Like you can keep performing how your coach wants to and keep passing it around, but the great players like Hazard, Messi, Ronaldo, Mbappe, know when to stop doing what the manager and team is asking you and try something a little different to catch the opposition team out and subvert expectations to score (hence why the main character is so caught up on passing it, as it was an expected tactic of something that was not working in the past) People who trash this anime for it being full of strikers clearly show why they do not know anything about football. In modern football a striker is expected to perform multiple role. Yes a striker may not play as a defender, but as Cruyff has said, the striker is the first defender. Also this anime is mirroring professional academies where you are having to show your worth amongst a ton of other talent in your team/other teams/other age groups. You have to be an egoist to prove you are worthy to play in the first team and coaches will make you play in other positions to improve other parts of your games. OMG will weebs just read up a little about professional academies before making a video essay on it
in my opinion blue lock shows a realistic kick from a certain point of view, because those actions are not unreal, but in the real world do not happen so often. blue lock shows football in its best actions constantly, never going beyond the limit of realism, for this is a fantastic anime, because what you see you can potentially replicate, clearly it takes a great commitment and a lot of training, But you can do it, you can be like a bachira doing skills at every action or isagi doing direct shots. That’s why I love blue lock
BTW, did you realize that Isagi's name sounds VERY similar to a one certain Italian top scorer of all time? Yes, Isagi is a reference of Filippo Inzaghi. My man possessed literally nothing special, average shot, terrible long shot, no dribbling skill, average speed, and bad air battle. Sound like a certain player we know in Blue Lock. However, his position? My man was named the King of Offside for a reason. The moment you took your eyes off of Inzaghi, he scores. His position and his direct shot got unmatched accuracy at the time. His position prediction was top notch. Most of his goals are inside the box no matter what.
Messi said he doesn’t even believe nor believed he was the best, he also said being the best was never his goal his goal was only to play football and have fun. Some aspect of blue lock are true but compared to the amont of things that are either not true or totally false is astonishing, if you want to read a Real football manga with real development and that blue lock took inspiration from read Ao Ashi
Thats true. I wasnt watching blue lock for the realism anyways, its very extra nature is what makes it stupidly fun for me. but it was nice to compare which ones they DID get right. And yeah messi has always been incredibly humble, but you need some sort ego to be the person who commands the argentinian team.
@@itshyfen To be honest I feel Messi isn't even commanding his team, even if he's captain. He is more like the hope and pride of the other players and thanks to his charisma and humbleness everybody is encouraged to be the best player possible, to finally give him a world cup. Half of the game he's standing still but teammates want to pass to him because he is reliable and he can gain time to create better action, he has the captain spirit more than ego And for France it's similar, while they had a star player like Mbappe, every player preferred to pass to Giroud because he has that captain spirit and created more chances, that then Mbappe used to score
@@itshyfen It’s not that much ego it’s more leadership Egoism means you would play for yourself, messi play for the team like most people in this sport by the way
@@boubi9329 I mean ego refers to someones sense of self importance or self esteem. You can see youself as someone of high importance to people without the need to brag about it. You can have an ego and still be a team player
for every ronaldo there is one marcelo or ozil or my boy benzi for every haaland there is KDB so that a footballer must be egoistic is not totally correct rather then being egoistic a striker should be brave and confident on their own strength that if times or situation needs they can create a magical moment out of nowhere..is a great striker
perfect man speaking about formulas is Robben he always did the same thing run along from the wing cut in put it in the far corner always works everybody knows its coming but nobody can stop it
Blue Lock is not accurate on the ego, I think some of the best player are maybe egoiste but it's not a requirement for being the best and it could be something that block your progression because how good is a striker is base on how good he is at choosing and creating the best option to score a goal so a good knowledge of his capacity is required that what can make looks like they are egoist but they will perform a pass to make their teammates score if it's the best option.
Blue Lock is about producing the best striker, not the best player. And being the best striker 100% requires a strong ego....Of course, you don't have to and shouldn't be an egomaniac, but you definitely need an ego to put yourself forward and not crumble under pressure. That's the whole point, and it is accurate.
@@dunebuggy1292 that not an ego what you describe that just a strong mind. You seem to forget what ego mean, ego mean the perception of yourself and having ego is thinking of yourself as a singularity. You don't need to think that you're special to be special just look at Erling Haaland he is a singularity in football and maybe the current strongest striker but he don't act as a singularity and is still humble when speak about another striker.
@@kami-sama6772 No, that is the ego. Learn something about psychology and personality. To say "I" is to express the ego. A strong mind is the ego. An ego is not egocentrism. The ego is your self in contrast with the world or environment. To say "I can do this" is to express an ego. All of this is accurate. Of course, exaggerated for anime.
@@dunebuggy1292 Well I kinda see why the problem I'm french so I used the french definition of having an ego and it's not really the same even ego mean the same thing in french and in english but having ego in french his the definition I gave because we have another word for a strong mind so Blue Lock is accurate for ego in english but not for a french
Being selfish IN Blue Lock isn’t meant to translate directly onto the field word for word. they are BUILDING the player to insert on a team where the best striker (the one who finishes on top) can lead a team to victory with the chemical reactions and all that mush learned.
I’m sorry. Football isn’t built around one key player. This is the perspective of someone who’s never played football and probably comes from a country where it’s not he national sport. France has the best team on the planet: Mbappe, Pogba, Griezmann are three of the top forwards globally and they’re on one team together.
That's not true, it's only apply to strikers, other positions it's sth to be proud of, and you can see many top blue lock players switch positions because they're more comfortable doing that
3:10 To be fair though, Isagi went for Bachira orginally, Isagi only went for Kira because Bachira's pass was so accurate both in position and intent that Isagi had no choice but to kick it to Kira, the strongest player in the room.

Kind of funny when you see your team mate on the field or enemy shouting out "I FEEL THE FLARE THE BLUE LOCK FLARE" i feel second hand embarrassment for those people anyways blue lock was made to be futuristic not realistic so.....yeah?
That last second bit is like me and chess while the early and mid game are important to try and take control of the board the final moves are where everything matters
Saying you disagree with Ego is crazy. Why? Well because he’s creating a striker which as a striker you gotta be selfish sometimes especially if you wanna be seen as the best(by scoring a lot). He’s not trying to create the perfect player but the perfect striker that’s what you gotta remember

You're actually right, I feel like I shouldve changed my wording because yeah of course a team isnt ONLY run by 1 player. But you cant deny that some players are able to inspire their whole team. and I think you need some kind of sense of self importance to be that leader figure.
In a literal sense yes its a team sport so of course the overall performance of every podition matters, but some teams do better when they are all inspired by a certain star player
I think ill try to explain this point better again on part 2
@@itshyfen yeah I liked the vid and I see your point for sure, looking forward to part 2
Messi’s key is to be humble (outwardly) without humbling yourself (inwardly) and for that, he needs to feed his inner ego.
blue lock whole philosophy breaks apart from just the existence of Lionel Messi
I think another thing about blue lock that people need to understand is that it’s from the perspective of a Japanese football fan. The outlandish claims for sure are overdone for narrative, but the core message is something that is meant for aspiring Japanese football players.
The eng dub for blue lock is actually very good.
If you read the manga, blue lock description of football gameplay is actually accurate.. but the narrative when playing football + all the animation like glowing eyes or lightning make people think its not accurate or just make things up...this method works as shonen sport

3:38 Why this always reminds me of his famous goal against getafe, messi is a cheat code and we witnessed how this cheat code performs, unstoppable.

Just like every other video essay on it, they miss how accurate this anime is as an analogy for accademy football
Football teams (other than really 2019/20 Chelsea) are not built around one player. Even in his prime, Messi's barca was not built around him, as they had such good players making up that core. He was just able to make himself stand out.
There are two reasons why this anime does make sense in a egoist way.
1.
In a team full of superstars (which Bluelock tries to show), it's about being egotistical enough to believe you are the best and try to influence the game rather than just relying on the collective strength of your team. e.g. if you are a team like Madrid, instead of blaming losing to a Raye Vallorca on the team not running at 100% or the manager, you blame yourself and work on improving your game
2.
How a player in attacking positions need to take the initiative at times. Like you can keep performing how your coach wants to and keep passing it around, but the great players like Hazard, Messi, Ronaldo, Mbappe, know when to stop doing what the manager and team is asking you and try something a little different to catch the opposition team out and subvert expectations to score (hence why the main character is so caught up on passing it, as it was an expected tactic of something that was not working in the past)
People who trash this anime for it being full of strikers clearly show why they do not know anything about football. In modern football a striker is expected to perform multiple role. Yes a striker may not play as a defender, but as Cruyff has said, the striker is the first defender. Also this anime is mirroring professional academies where you are having to show your worth amongst a ton of other talent in your team/other teams/other age groups. You have to be an egoist to prove you are worthy to play in the first team
and coaches will make you play in other positions to improve other parts of your games.
That’s why I love blue lock
just dont bother emulating nagi
my guy has virtually impossible goals to recreate, and my guy doesn't even train seriously ;-;
6:50 in the manga it's explained as a "golden zone" the most optimal place where you could score. every player has stheig own "golden zone"
"THERES A MONSTER COMING INSIDE OF ME" - Mbappe
Mbappe has that one spot near the top left corner of the 18 and he almost always scores from there with his right foot

Half of the game he's standing still but teammates want to pass to him because he is reliable and he can gain time to create better action, he has the captain spirit more than ego
And for France it's similar, while they had a star player like Mbappe, every player preferred to pass to Giroud because he has that captain spirit and created more chances, that then Mbappe used to score

Blue lock is about Japan's incessant overhumility stunting it's proffesional potential.
I’m sorry. Football isn’t built around one key player. This is the perspective of someone who’s never played football and probably comes from a country where it’s not he national sport. France has the best team on the planet: Mbappe, Pogba, Griezmann are three of the top forwards globally and they’re on one team together.
But they also called a through pass a pass that goes between two defenders 🤦♀️
It's so annoying as a football fan bro.
It is really silly in blue lock that if you make an assist or great pass you are considered a garbage human with no talent.
Unless your Reo or Niko who are constantly praised for their passes apparently 🤷♂️
That's not true, it's only apply to strikers, other positions it's sth to be proud of, and you can see many top blue lock players switch positions because they're more comfortable doing that
If you read the manga the reason Isagi got chosen in u20 match and get praise in many other games is because his great assist and passing
3:10
To be fair though, Isagi went for Bachira orginally, Isagi only went for Kira because Bachira's pass was so accurate both in position and intent that Isagi had no choice but to kick it to Kira, the strongest player in the room.
