  • To start off yep, we are swapping a Volkswagen 1.8t motor into a Opel GT!
    Over the weekend me and Justin decided to finally start ripping apart the Opel GT motor and we ran into a few issues. First we found that the Opel GT Valves were completely shot and the head would need to be rebuilt on the motor. in addition the bottom end has seen better days and if the head would need to be rebuilt so should the bottom end. Justin was not to happy about this and we started thinking. what motor would fit well inside the Opel engine bay. The first motor that came to mind was the 1.8T out of a MK4 Volkswagen GTI. lucky for use we had a 2.0 inline 4 out of a Jetta sitting around the shop which is almost the same detentions as a 1.8T. It took some time but surprisingly the motor fit incredibly well inside the engine bay. The next step will be for use to source a transmission and a stand alone ECU so we can get new motor up and running. there will be loads of fabrication that needs to be done but we hope that this will make for a fun build that you all will come along and enjoy.

    250 hp is a brutal build for this lightweight. Great 👍

    FYI : One thing you might want to acquire for your mock-up. Cross members as well as drive shaft in the OGT are different between the 4 speed & automatic transmission cars. In as much as most common change in them is to a 5 speed these are parts that are fairly easy & inexpensive to get your hands on and may help? Also the best thing (IMHO) about the Opel is the "balance & weight distribution" is nearly 50/50. I'm sure you noticed how far back into the firewall original engine was. That is what makes these cars handle so well so try to maintain that. Moving the battery to the rear passenger compartment side in a stock one helps this slightly so that might be a consideration as well. A bit of reinforcement to handle the added torque not a bad idea also. That is a common mistake those dropping V8 or V6 in them have made with disastrous results. Cool build ...will be watching!

      @ThreePedalGarage  3 года назад

      Thank you for the insight! I agree with you on the placement of the motor is very crucial to keeping that 50/50 balance we are going to try and keep it like that if we can. We also talked about stiffening up the rear of the car like you mentioned to handle the torque better. It will be cool to see how it turns out

    In theory it will be a 11 second car. Probably low 13 or high 12s problem is traction. Wider tires and some rear end fabrication. The stock rear end won't take anything over 200hp and torque you will have to modify a S10 rearend
