i have the tcr and the 2024 propel advanced pro 0. (this is just coming from my experience) I'd love to say the propel is an all rounder and for the most part, sure it can be and for most people it will be an all rounder for sure. However when i'm climbing, the tcr just feels more light and alive whereas the propel is not far off in terms of feeling, kinda feels a bit lifeless. This is the only thing that lacks with the propel. Like i said its still a great bike for climbing, but up against an actual climbing bike is where it lacks. In terms of everything else though, the propel wins. Flats, descents, etc. I'm keeping both. Both great bikes
There's no perfect bike. Tcr were built for climbing, Propel was built with a mindset to be an all-rounder bike. The Propel might not be as good and the Tcr in climbing but it makes up for hit on the flat ground. You can't get the best of both worlds, there is no such thing.

Most likely next Summer. 2. Canyon Aeroad - No frame only options. I already have wheels and groupset. 3. Tarmac SL8 - While I can probably get a discount locally, Specialized in general is extremely popular here in Chicago. I wanted to be different.

Lover this bike!, I'm new to the world of cycling and Giant Propel Adv 2 is so good, fell in love with cycling bcs of this, for new cyclist like me don't worry this bike is super comfy and so fast.
Which of my bikes is the "fastest"? - Sadly I just don't have the time and resources to perform a true scientific speed test. Plus there are too many variables. Yes the Giant Propel is the fastest. It better be given the price. But truthfully even if it wasn't any faster than my other bikes the frame feedback, control, and ride quality are the worth the price. And quite frankly those are tangible aspects which would theoretically make you faster.
honestly i think fastest should just be measured in responsiveness and raw sprinting ability. i went from a specialized allez sprint (the model before yours) to a trek madone slr (the 2019 iso speed). the madone is lighter, more comfortable, more aero in a straight line but it's average getting it up to speed and doesn't hold a candle to the allez sprint when sprinting. for most of us i think the get up and go probably ends up being more important than the pure aero?
This is the first review of bike frames that I actually believe. I was thinking about cheaping out and do a budget build. Instead I will save money and buy a used top tier brand name bike.

I didn't wanna make the video 40 minutes long, explaining every nuance of the bike, testing, etc. Most people can't even handle an 18 minute video and it would be quite boring.
Man that's a great question. It's a toss up between my current Allez Sprint and the Yishun R086-D. The Allez is responsive, super easy to work on, and comfortable (for an alloy frame) when set up correctly. Feels bulletproof because it's kinda heavy. The Yishun is much lighter, quite stiff, a fantastic value, but still suffers from minor harshness that comes with "cheap" Chinese frames. In a life or death situation I'd choose the Allez Sprint, but I also need to recoup some funds which the resell value of the Allez would help. Cheap Chinese frames have practically no value on the 2nd hand market.
@@PatrickLino Can you describe what you mean by harshness of the chinese frames? It is hard to quantify what you mean by that. Right now, to me, harshness suggests that the frame feels less comfortable and stiffer. Is this a correct assumption? Cheap carbon frames tend to be worse in regards to torsion stiffness compared to premium frames, what is your opinion on that? All in all great video, the Giant Propel was on my wish list aswell and I'm glad that you got one.
@@MDZPNMD Cheaper bikes use cheaper grades of carbon to keep the price down. Cheap carbon can be made super stiff, but my assumption is it won't have the properties and characteristics to dampen road vibrations like higher grade carbon. And it will be heavier. Obviously you can't cheat physics. What I think Giant (and other main brands) are doing is paying attention to the carbon layup in areas of the frame to have a good balance of stiffness (bottom bracket/fork) while offering comfort (seatpost and top tube.) Cheap bikes have a tendency to be harsher (how it interacts with bad pavement) because there really isn't much care given to carbon layup. Also, every single frame across the size chart requires its own rear triangle dimensions to balance out the frame size and riding characteristics. I heard this tooling is very expensive. This is why cheap frames essentially use the same rear triangle size and shape regardless of size.
Please get someone to wrap your handlebar!! I love the build and think it looks amazing but the handlebar wrap is horrible. Also i want to ask if you recomend any cheap/chines narrow aero handlebars.
I rewrapped my bar tape about 4 times, and determined it's the shape and curvature of this particular handlebar that causes the wrap to look janky 😭- Haven't had this problem on any other handlebar.
I just bought a LOOK 795 Blade RS Ultegra White. I think I’m the only one in NE Ohio that has this bike. LOOK might be making a comeback in the future. They were one of the premier bikes in the 80’s-90’s. Interesting what your opinion would be. Thanks.
The reason why the propel is more comfortable in the rear is due to the sloping top tube, thinner seat post and more relaxed set post angle, not necessarily the lay up. With the spacers under your stem and the 140mm stem why didn't you go up a size, lose the spacers and had a better handling length stem?
@@jordanmann7370 You must be new here, and I will forgive you. Watch my previous bike builds and you will understand. Otherwise go watch GCN or something like that.
@PatrickLino wow ok, GCN would never be a recommendation with regards to bike fitting. I just twitch when I hear RUclipsrs talk about TT and stem length when picking a frame when so many things impact a TT length and have little baring on position. Ie seat tube angle and head tube height dramatically impact tt length. My tcr was a 55 tt and my t1550 is 51 with the same reach.
@@jordanmann7370 I run a slammed 140mm -12 stem stem on my Allez Sprint size 56. And yet the Allez Sprint frameset is both longer reach and lower stack than my Giant Propel in the same size. My bike current fit (which was confirmed by my professional bike fitter) requires a lot of reach and a short stack. Very long arms for my height. What works for me may not work for you. And that's cool. My bike fit doesn't work for most people except maybe professional riders, although I am anything but pro.
I wish you spoke more about how the Propel climbs. I want to get one but I need my new bike (whichever one I get) to be a really good climber. The TCR I know is better but it has the cables hanging out and I just dont like that look. So, this is the next best option. But I am a little afraid it might make those steep sections that are usually at the end of the climbs harder for me. I am sure it is fine for the short steep sections. Hopefully in the near future you will talk more about how it compares to other bikes on the climbs.
If I talked about how the Propel climbs while currently living in a completely flat city like Chicago, I would get crucified. So really it's a lose lose for me either way. Get the SLR version of the Propel if climbing that important to you. Or an SL8 🤣
@@PatrickLino ,..Yeah, I get it. Anyway, the SLR is too expensive and I wont buy a specialized. I think the Propel AP frame is about the only one I can afford that is at this level. Have you heard anything about a new Trek Emonda? That could be just the ticket. Thanks for your response, I appreciate it.
@@AVoiceCryingInTheWildern-vt6ed My first bike ever was a Trek Emonda back in 2015. I would probably get the SLR Emonda version if were to buy Trek again. But I think Trek has fallen out of favor for the more youthful crowd.
I ride it since the begenning of the year, I live in the french Alps, appart from the weight penalty (of course) I do prefer the feeling of the new propel rather than the disc TCR, really lively when you go up on the pedals and not so rigid on the saddle, really comfortable for a race bike. I've done some open race in mountain (equivalent of the etape du tour) and did some top 10 overall with it so I guess it does climb pretty well ^^
What’s up big Bro! Always a fan of the channel, *TeamPatty for sure!! I’ve been waiting on this Video. I had a specific question, which you did answer. It was regarding the bike as a whole. A big name brand versus a cheap Chinese bike, is there a difference. YES!! I got a lot negative feedback when I talked about my Elves bike and why I sold it so quick. For the money, a Chinese bike is solid but it isn’t a big name brand bike and you can feel it immediately when riding. Anyways, love the build! I kinda like the Hypers on it a lil better. Jus had that “I wanna go fast theme, 💨” 😆 #RobbArmstrong
Silca recommends for me 71 psi. You need to provide overall system weight not just rider weight. I prefer road feedback over absolute comfort, even if it is marginally faster. And I would not dare sprinting at 65 psi for myself LoL.
How was the fit and finish of the frameset? Any issues with over spray on brake caliper mounting surface, headset suraces and bb surfaces well finished?
I wear exclusively Monton Sports, which I have a 15% off code in the video description. Shades, jerseys, bibs, socks, even in the photos, are from Monton Sports ❤️
38cm drop width for your build? do you feel a bit cramped or suffocate while on drop? i am using 44cm thinking of getting myself a 42 but i am stocky build.. i am drooling nevertheless
It’s not just the reach but also the stack height to consider. The stack height of the large is too tall. And I’m basically running a slammed stem on the M/L.
I have the propel advance 1. I like soo much how looks, but i wish can put a integrated handlebar and stem, do you know if some brand have a cockpit copatible?
@@PatrickLino I need replace my stem because is small, so, if I will spend money, I prefer search a cockpit 600-700 USD. I think 400 usd only for the steam it's expensive
@@PatrickLino I think it was called Velobuild 2019 model. Cracks in the pavement, rough pavement, small potholes…. I cringe. Vertical stiffness. I been playing around with tire pressure to get a better ride Like your video said open mold frames are not the same frames minus name brand’s logo. Which I knew that going in. Overall I’m happy with it.
Buy a GIORDANO® LIBERO ROAD BIKE when its on sale and do a review. I thought it was a really great deal at $250 but even a novice i can see the shortcomings
Though, it's very unlikely the new frame is faster. According to Giant, and this is their official number, the new complete bike with their new Cadex wheel+the oval shaped tyres they save 6.21 watts from the previous generation's Propel. At the same time, and this is also according to Giant themselves, the combination of the new Cadex wheel+the new tyre itself saves 7.2 watts. So infact the frame itself is slower due to a design that's more "all-rounder" oriented features.... Anyway, I was never really interested in seeing accuracy of these tests without a proper measurement of airspeed and temperature normalized setting.
What premium bike should I purchase and review next? 🤣

Thanks.
The Look 795 Blade looks sick! That was on my radar too.
but its heavy 8kg+
@@PatrickLino
@@egyasia okay
Not much of a giant guy but this thing looks insane, congrats bro 👊
Thank you!
you should try the shimano pedals, it's an eye opener!! Also very easy to maintain!
I started cycling 5 years ago using Shimano pedals. And that's why I switched to Look Keo pedals 3 years ago lol
The reason why the propel is more comfortable in the rear is due to the sloping top tube, thinner seat post and more relaxed set post angle, not necessarily the lay up.
With the spacers under your stem and the 140mm stem why didn't you go up a size, lose the spacers and had a better handling length stem?
I run 130-140 on all my bikes.
@PatrickLino so you determined frame size based off of desired stem length and frame reach ignoring stack?
Very nice review 👍, love the bike. How is it compare to allez sprint?
Thanks for watching! Any specifics on the comparison you would like to know?
Yes the stiffnes, sprinting and feel of the ride.
I have the same crankset setup on my Aethos. Using 11 speed dura ace chainrings
Any chain drops? I may need to upgrade to 53/39 chainrings
@@PatrickLino No chain drops on my end, had some really great mechanics to help with the the setup.
where to get that?@@PatrickLino
Nice build brotha. What type of rotors are you running with the Magene? Are they internal or external lock?
Shimano rotors. All centerlock rotors can run either internal or external spline locks. 👍🏾
I've done some open race in mountain (equivalent of the etape du tour) and did some top 10 overall with it so I guess it does climb pretty well ^^
@@jules5037 thank you!
Jus had that “I wanna go fast theme, 💨” 😆
#RobbArmstrong
Thanks bro! Your input is always appreciated. #RobbArmstrong
You gotta drop those tires way down! I’m 165 lbs and run 28c gp5000 and silca tire pressure recommends 67 and 65! Lower is faster!
Silca recommends for me 71 psi. You need to provide overall system weight not just rider weight. I prefer road feedback over absolute comfort, even if it is marginally faster. And I would not dare sprinting at 65 psi for myself LoL.
Wouldn't you think about Scott Foil? It cost about 4000 for 105 di2 setup
Does Scott sell the frameset alone? I don't need wheels or groupset.
@@PatrickLino It is becoming harder and harder to find the budget friendly bike models as a frameset option :(
@@BrianMcDonald greedy bike brands!
@@PatrickLino for real! It sucks that aside from a few exceptions most brands offer nothing under the $3300 frame price
How was the fit and finish of the frameset? Any issues with over spray on brake caliper mounting surface, headset suraces and bb surfaces well finished?
Those details were provided in my unboxing video, but no issues. And I hope not considering the price.
@@PatrickLino thanks bb
I drive an old school Japanese sports car and like cheap Chinese carbon frames, maybe I just have a type 😂
I used to drive a Honda Civic. And now currently an Acura TSA (Euro Accord). Trust me I have a type too haha
I love my Propel. What are the blue shades you have on in this video?
I wear exclusively Monton Sports, which I have a 15% off code in the video description. Shades, jerseys, bibs, socks, even in the photos, are from Monton Sports ❤️
38cm drop width for your build? do you feel a bit cramped or suffocate while on drop? i am using 44cm thinking of getting myself a 42 but i am stocky build.. i am drooling nevertheless
Narrow is aero! I also have narrow shoulders 👍🏾
Sick bike :-) Enjoyed the vid too.
Thanks for watching!
Ugh I want one so bad but they’re not in stock in my size. Do you have any idea how often they restock?
Might be best to contact your local Giant dealer LBS 💨
The BB shell is carbon like older propel on your bike? If so how did you install your bb? Dry, grease or loctite? Thanks
I just use regular grease myself 👍🏾
@@PatrickLino Hmmm, it is not recommended to use grease with pressfit bottom bracket into carbon shell.
But if it works, it works :)
When you compare them to cheap Chinese bikes. Does that include the winspace and the yoleo as well?
This was answered in the video ❤️
Lets go!
Oh snap it's Freddy! What's up babyyyyyyyyyy!?
@PatrickLino: how does the bike climb? Any experience with it?
Super flat here in Chicago
I just got the 2023 propel pro . Did you feel when you at the drop bar? On the hood feel wasn't so obviously but on the drop , yeah..
Repeat your question please haha
@@PatrickLino I just curious. How do you feel difference when you on the hood and on the bar?
@@simonking9216 Very comfortable on the hoods. In the drops it feels like a rocket.
re do the bar tape tighter
kmonnnnn
Ahhhh man 😭😭
Since you have a long stem, is there a reason why you didn’t consider a size large frame rather than m/L. ?
It’s not just the reach but also the stack height to consider. The stack height of the large is too tall. And I’m basically running a slammed stem on the M/L.
Great review 🎉
Thanks for watching!
$400 for the stem… 😳… that’s two pair of retro 11 Jordan’s… 😆😆… well done big dog… 🫡
Or one pair of Retro 3s as seen in the video 😭

I have the propel advance 1. I like soo much how looks, but i wish can put a integrated handlebar and stem, do you know if some brand have a cockpit copatible?
Why do you want an integrated cockpit?
@@PatrickLino I need replace my stem because is small, so, if I will spend money, I prefer search a cockpit 600-700 USD. I think 400 usd only for the steam it's expensive
I think you could have gone with the sram gxp cranks and use regular bottom brackets … it’s a bit heavier tho
Power meter though
@@PatrickLino Both the sram red dub and gap are 8 boltninterface and should be compatible with dfour?
I brought a Velobuild frameset. I like it, but it’s a rough ride!
Which frame did you purchase, and what about it makes it rough?
@@PatrickLino I think it was called Velobuild 2019 model. Cracks in the pavement, rough pavement, small potholes…. I cringe. Vertical stiffness. I been playing around with tire pressure to get a better ride

I read that it is not very light. Do you know the weight and is that a problem to you??
This isn't the top end Propel, and the Propel in general is more of an all-around aero bike than climbing bike 👍🏾
At 6:37 min/sec is that a crack on your non drive side seat stay? I hope it is not because you seem to love your new bike
lol no it's just dirt/muck. I already wiped it off ha

How much do you love it?
Comparing to Allez Sprint?
It’s lighter
So, what's the total price of bike? How much cost it?
Not cheap lol
Can you compare this against merida reacto and trek madone?
The Madone is in contention
7.6kg pretty respectable? It's super respectable for an aero weapon like this!
I agree 100% haha! People on RUclips are so sensitive about bike weights, I tried to be fairly neutral about my assessment.
That bike is looking tasty AF 🤌

@@PatrickLino what about ride quality?

I thought it was a really great deal at $250 but even a novice i can see the shortcomings
Thankfully my channel already has plenty of affordable frames on review.
Great video! How tall are you out of interest?
I am 6 feet tall. My bike setup is based on me having long arms for my height, while still needing a low stack. This was confirmed by my bike fitter 😭
@@PatrickLino Yeah looks like a stretch 🫣 I would have to do a lot of core strengthening to survive an hour on that haha
@@PatrickLino also what depth are the rims on the hyper photo? Looks so clean
