Once in a while, youtube recommends a great video. This is one of them! Great to watch, amazing effort and dedication. The end result was a bliss to watch! Ride on buddy! 💪👍
Wow!! Very happy for you, that is such a milestone to reach!! I really enjoy how honest you are about your pogression /and short comings) in your videos (next to them being super informative)! Congratulations!!
Thanks for sharing this and all your other training videos. This is one of the best cycling motivation and training RUclips channels I’ve seen. I really appreciate the awesome content and inspiration, keep it up, mate.
You’re an absolute unit, Tristan! Thanks for continuing to deliver top-notch content. Would love to see you collab with the Nero guys on some training content.
6w/kg is incredibly good! Even 5w/kg is a stretch for most of us. In our city of 300k generally the best strava time's are around 5.7w/kgs for the 20min climbs. which goes to show how good Tristan is. And speaking as over 50yr old you still have a lot of good years left! I didn't really notice a drop in power to around 48/49yrs old. Although i never did big training weeks so is probably different.
So inspiring story 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 well done mate ! Just can't help it feeling related to your story , also started cycling on 2014 just after finishing my master degree , I've been a middle - long distance runner during my youth , so making the switch to cycling was great jump , once I started working on 2015 , I got less and less time to cycling until COVID hit and I got into zwift , now I race more consistently, 5w/kg is my max
Great stuff Tristan! So impressive and inspiring to keep on working on my own fitness. As always really good footage, makes you want to move too.. Really enjoyed the music mix this time, especially during the final 20 min. Really impressive effort and a good end to a great year it seems. Have a nice winter down there 🙌🥳💐👑💪
It’s a great one if you feel like a proper workout. Ideally if you’ve got a climb long enough, you keep climbing up it during the 3’ off, to really make sure your heart rate doesn’t come back to resting. 🤪
Mate - i been telling you those legs are beasts! Great to see you achieve your goal. While I'm in germany perusing christmas markets for Glühwein and Quarkbällchen, I'm working on not hitting 2 w/kg from 3 w/kg at the same power output. Only disappointment of the video is that your love didn't wait at the top with a big hug
Congratulations man!!! I was expecting to see a load of comments saying you’re not allowed to stand during the test and being ready to tell them guys it’s a max effort stop
Congrats and thanks for showing the training features of this computer! Sold on getting one soon. I literally have to charge my Garmin after every single ride 😂
Brilliant video - great story and such impressive resilience to stick at it. Shows what can be done with focused determination. 💪🏻 interesting how you can adapt to your ‘level’ and end up being disappointed with ‘only’ 5.9w/kg 😝
Very inspiring for my 5w/kg for an hour goal. I don't know if I'll hit it this year but I will damn well try. If it doesn't happen, there's always next year.
I started riding a year ago with your training plan, weighed 87kg best 20min was 283 (3.2w/kg) after using your plan for a bit, ended up getting a coach as i loved the structure, today weigh 79 - 80kg best 20 min 388 (4.8w/kg) chasing 5.5 w/kg by January. Your training absolutely kickstarted me, this was a very motivating video, just what my glassy red eyes needed. Keep it up
amazing youtuber capabilities. glad that you realized your dream. greetings from turkey. do not have a powermeter myself, i only train by heartrate on my garmin hrm pro and instinct 2x watch. we are the same age and my ftp is now 206 i guess. dk what that impies but still.. cheers!
I'm 31 have hit 5.8 and been having similar thoughts that I best crack on while I have a few years left. Super inspiring mate and congratulations! Here's to 6.1, haha!
Hey Tristan, been watching your videos for about a year and a half now, and always love them. Super inspirational considering i’m around your height and weight- not that it means much but we tend towards heroes that look like us. Anyways, I’m a collegiate cyclist in the US aiming for the national championships in the spring. I’m self coached/build my own training plans, and I absolutely love your videos with John Wakefield - always find myself returning to them when I’m building my next plan throughout the year. As a collegiate/domestic racer, I’m pretty much racing consistently every week/every other week from March-July/August before a break and then a short cyclocross season. I was wondering if you and John might be able to speak on dealing with a yearly load, and also how to handle training through a race season, where certain objectives such as collegiate nats or U23 nats are not guaranteed and dependent on performances throughout the season. I know this was a lot, but thanks again!
i have started cycling last year. i can hold now close to 3.5w/kg for alpe du zwift. or just 2 days ago i rode The Pretzel with 2.8w/kg for 2:28h. I hope to improve way more but i am happy with my progression. next year i will do my first ironman 70.3 and later in the year the full distance. looking forward to that. riding is just fun 🙂
Mate, you're making my legs, my lungs and my heart hurt just watching! Well done, although I wish you had included HR. Maybe a link to the strava ride where you did this effort would be a good idea?
Great to see your long video again) Wonder if we'll see some footage from summer in California? P.S. The Purple kit and red BMC look amazing 👌🏻 P.P.S. I'm Curious about your new one-by setup; how good it's in the hills and sprints?
Excellent video as always Tristan and huge congratulations 👍👍to your determination and journey to 6W/kg. 2 questions: what has been your increase in power over the last 10 years (e.g. max 20min power each year) and what did you think were the biggest contributors to your improvement: better structured training, strength training or nutrition?
Another great video, I just started doing structured training thanks to your videos, I’m on the 4th week of the 28 day plan you did with John and I’m loving it. Congrats on hitting 6wkg, that’s incredible
You are a monster. Crazy numbers. I started cycling in August 2023. My personal best is 222 watts over 20 minutes with 55kg (Indoor Test). Hopefully I can get a strong rider.
Thanks for sharing: now I know again how these "tests" feel. Having a son who is a pro-cyclist, knowing several of them, I know the fear in their eyes when the words '20 minutes test' come...
"Sanka ya dead" / "Yeah Man" Kudos to you - great effort and dedication. Way beyond my ability, but this guy 15 years your senior has his own goal for 2025 - 4wkg. Just got to find the current remaining 0.7wkg. Although i have been as close as 3.51wkg this year. Can i ask a question - how tall are you? Congrats on 60k - been a heck of a journey since the Rally photoshoot vlogs.
those calorie numbers don't seem right. If you're doing 177 watts for 3.2 hrs then you're burning 2000 calories, not 1276 like at 23:00. Which is a big difference
Nice job and congratulations. One question. My understanding is any physiological adaptations at a mitochondria and central level take 8-12 weeks. In two weeks the best you can hope for is increased blood plasma levels and some neuromuscular adaptions. So really, you wouldn't have had any meaningful increases in lactate threshold and VO2 max. Thoughts?
Thanks mate 🙏🏼 You’re 100% correct in that the best physiological adaptations need time to make real change and if I’d had more time that would’ve made more sense. I started from quite a high level to begin with though so these sessions were just pulling out those last few percent rather than needing to make structural change to my physiological capacity. I’m sure my plan could be analysed and rehashed to have an even better impact, or spread over 4 weeks instead of 2, but it seemed to work for what I was aiming for. A bit of willingness to suffer harder than I ever have before in the final test also probably helped…😂
I haven’t done one of these for maybe 15 years. As I approach 60 maybe I should just to see my progression (in the wrong direction) 😂. But thanks for the inspiration
Curious question: do you load the workout from trainingpeaks to your head unit? Since you mentioned “lots of lap button pressing” so i assume you dont load the workout? Thanks and RIDE ON!!!
I could have and the Coros works well that way for people who have trainer sessions or really controllable course (like a flat loop without traffic lights), but I prefer to be in control of when the laps start and stop as I don’t quite know when I’ll reach the exact point to start my laps (usually as the gradient goes up). I need to have more of a play though..I’m sure I could get it to work that way for me in future.
60k Subs for 6W/kg. You know what to do to get 70k Subs 😉🤘🏻
LOLLL I believe in him ✊
In the world of BS cycling RUclips content, this dude is as real as it gets. Respect.
🙏🏼
Tristan is in the top 3 in the cycling segment of the world RUclips. Subscribers' numbers won't reflect on that, unfortunately.
This ⬆️
Once in a while, youtube recommends a great video. This is one of them! Great to watch, amazing effort and dedication. The end result was a bliss to watch! Ride on buddy! 💪👍
Nice to see you here
Congrats! That's a huge accomplishment. Thanks for sharing all the workout details.
Thanks mate! Good to have you on board 🤜🏼🤛🏼
Wow!! Very happy for you, that is such a milestone to reach!! I really enjoy how honest you are about your pogression /and short comings) in your videos (next to them being super informative)! Congratulations!!
Excellent way to finish the year. You can always guarantee proper content from Tris. Looking forward to what’s in store for the future.
Thanks for sharing this and all your other training videos. This is one of the best cycling motivation and training RUclips channels I’ve seen. I really appreciate the awesome content and inspiration, keep it up, mate.
Finally the vid is out, love the take and build up story before doing the real deal, great video man 🎉
You’re an absolute unit, Tristan! Thanks for continuing to deliver top-notch content. Would love to see you collab with the Nero guys on some training content.
The way you pronounce "Els Angels" sounds like "L's & Gels", which is a great name for my bike racing memoir
hahah
"spend 10 weeks in LA dropping Phil Gaimon in bunch rides" bro I'm dead 😂
Haha… he went full savage on that one… 😂😂😂😂😂
Wear it like a badge.
Awesome video Tristan, superbly recorded and edited. Congrats on your 6w/kg.
Great job. Let s go. Amazing project. Very proud to see you accomplish this epic goal. Now you can give Pogi a challenge on a tour stage. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Mad brilliantly well produced videos
Wow mate, you are a real inspiration. Most people quit at 35, you are getting fitter and fitter. Keep going.
amazing man congrats on the 60 k and the 6wk!!

Thanks man. I feel very very fortunate to have the life I have. 🙏🏼
Top 5 videos you have produced on this channel. 😊
Thanks mate. Really glad you liked it so much. 🤜🏼🤛🏼
Boy that 3x3x4min vo2max session sounds so insanely brutal...
Congratulations. You earned it. And all the best for the fresh love ❤.

@tristantakevideo omg adding insult to injury lol 😂... I'm not sure I could finish this session.
Congrats. What a performance 👏👏👏👏💪
great work man. Really inspirational. 💪
Honestly hats off to you this should motivate me to get out and do ab FTP test on a climb when I get over my chest infection

Nice work Tristan, congrats mate on a life work achievement. Thanks for the great content especially, John Wakefield.
Inspires me to get on the bike ... well done Tristan!
One of the best ways i seen F and Bs of the Coros, even nearly tempted.
thanks man. That should motivate most of us to get back out. 3w/kg id be delighted with.
Top work! Congrats 🚀
Congratulations man!!!

Thanks,very inspiring video 👍
Excellent really insightful.
Superb video - inspiring
Great vid, could feel how brutal that was.
Super cool vid!! One of my favourite things to check at the end of my ride is the battery consumption of my bike computer as well!! 😂😂
It’s nice with the Coros being like..will I have to charge it this month, or next month? 😆
I'm 31 have hit 5.8 and been having similar thoughts that I best crack on while I have a few years left. Super inspiring mate and congratulations! Here's to 6.1, haha!
Mate if you’re at 5.8 then 6 definitely possible! A month of specific training and you’d have it, I’m sure. 🤝🏼
An amazing achievement, bravo, chapeau 😊. Inspiring! At 62, I'm desperately trying to get close to 4w/kg for 20 mins.
Great Video 👏🏻💯
Nice one dude!

@ thx man. Means a lot.
Well done 👍💪
Outstanding mate congrats! Trying to do the same for 5w/kg for 20, 6w/kg for 5
You are the best!!!
Very happy for you... that girl you got there is gold! 🙂 oh.. and the 6w/kg is nice too 😜
Mate, you're making my legs, my lungs and my heart hurt just watching! Well done, although I wish you had included HR. Maybe a link to the strava ride where you did this effort would be a good idea?
well done, inspiring me to finally do another FTP test... maybe with some training first
Great to see your long video again)

Really good numbers mate. Keep it up. Although I'd hate to go uphill behind you lol.
@@xAudiolith Haha thanks mate. Yeah, my weight and watt/kg is great uphill. But you probably get me in trouble on the flats.
Love this brother, awesome watch. But wait til you hit your 40s and discover how good 35 still was
Your story telling skills in this video are even better than your cycling skills! Bravo on this video and chapeau to 6w/kg!
Great video, great performance…
Thanks for sharing: now I know again how these "tests" feel.
Having a son who is a pro-cyclist, knowing several of them, I know the fear in their eyes when the words '20 minutes test' come...
Well done
So proud of you Tristan! You keep inspiring us in reaching our own personal goals! What is your height btw compared to your weight?
Thanks mate 🙏🏼 I’m 172cm.
Fucking amazing mate! Very inspiring.
"Sanka ya dead" / "Yeah Man"

My coach also loves the sprints out of low cadence, usually seated. Disgusting but effective.

Absolutely. Time to get after it…😏
Go get it and join the club🎉
@@tristantakevideoqualified for the Zwift Games 2025 so it’s actually low key my goal right now. The grind has begun. 35 is the new 25 boys.
brutal... absolutely brutal
🤜🏼🤛🏼
Where are those running shirts from??? Instantly obsessed
These are from Chance Running. A brand based here in Girona. They’re extremely comfy. 🫡
Cheers.
I am 86Kg at 169cm, weight loss is my only/best option to increase W/kg! I'm not even going to attempt an FTP test until my weight is at

@ that absolutely makes sense when riding outdoors! I have always wondered how people do outdoor structured rides. Thanks for this!
Damn bro how many pairs of sunglasses you got?? Cool vid!
Oh nice I’m “very good” according to the table, thought I was just a bit better than average, I’d like to 5w/kg for 20min tho
