Oh it's that time of year again. Today I came back because Angie McMahon's LAV today made me swoon, and smoke signals is probably the last time I felt like that listening to the J's
This version is beautiful. It's raw and natural and just brilliant. Cannot stop playing it. Whole album 'Self Talk' is so worth the time spent listening to it.

Not quite another year down but this still gets me every time. They really caught lightning in a jar with this one.
does anyone in the comments like You and I by Margaret Glaspy? I've just come from there to here. It's a different sentiment but Glaspy's rasping, squeaking, and just playfully fun guitar work is wonderfully expressive.
It's kinda crazy how much I love this and how little I like the album cut, everything is washed out and overly electronic on the album, here you get to hear each instrument, her voice is much more present and authentic, and the synth stuff is just a layer of ambiance that adds depth instead of dominating the song.
God I love this performance, it's just too damn good.

There's a whole synth line through this that nobody's playing. Seems kinda odd.

I was talking about a pad that comes in at 0:42, but on rewatching, the drummer triggers a sequence right at the start that has another synth line that runs under the entire song.
