Ultima III: Exodus gave you the character creation options of male, female, or other, way back in 1983. I always picked other because I thought it sounded cool. You got to create and customize all four party members in that game. This was 40 years ago, older than most of the people whining about Starfield.

Many titles have their own modern engine ports as well, like Exult for Ultima 7, which runs it much better than DOSBox. I love that this guy cited MASS EFFECT of all things. A game that came out in like 2007 or 08. What immediately came to mind was what Jake referred to with a species (like asari) not observing gender. If the Mass Effect Trilogy came out today as is, these dorks would still be calling it WOKE or something adjacent to that because the series was still socially progressive for its time (i.e. lesbian/gay relationships). Even so, I seriously am baffled by the fact people are outraged by this kind of stuff.

I am so pleased that I am of an age to call myself a "boomer" because when I was growing up with good parents, teachers and role models, what they are calling "woke" and "social justice" now, we called "tolerance" and "respect" on the basis that it takes all types of people to make a good society.
I've always said that my right to Free Silence countermands everyone else's right to Free Speech - every group of people (gay, straight, black, white, Christian, Muslim, etc. etc.) can contain idiots and if you're an idiot ranting in my face, then I always have the option of smiling politely, shrugging my shoulders and walking away or just switching you off. Just look at Fallout: New Vegas, everyone's favorite Fallout game. The "current day" "woke" politics in that game was gay marriage, something two companions bring up multiple times, and for one of them, their whole story revolves around their people banning gay marriage and them finding the confidence to leave their conservative family to be happy.
