It's not unheard of like you seem to be implying. Yet I do agree that it's sad how quickly fans jump into negativity when it comes to games.
I sit on the "I think the game is better than the hate bandwagon is making it out to be" side but I agree that arguing "Wait for mods" is a poor excuse. People gave IGN hassle for it's 7/10 (And IGN is rather stupid) but in this case it's very much a fair rating, even if mods fix everything. Only official patches should be taken into consideration with the game. Modded Skyrim is an entirely different game from unmodded Skyrim, even New Vegas is a pretty different game, but where New Vegas is a very complete and interesting game, this is rather struggling.
The seams of the game can be seen from your first step into the world. Each "planet" is basically glorified Fallout 4 maps separated by loading screens with many being nothing but rocks to explore. The space segments are essentially car driving portions except with no road and only being able to shoot other ships.
You have to run and jump in low gravity for 5 mins straight in order to encounter a border, and you can literally fast travel to the other 5 parts of the planet, it's not that bad bro, this critique is dumb.

The game for sure isn’t perfect, but I enjoyed it more than most and that’s only after playing through the main quest. Can’t wait to see what else is out there.
Bethesda games just somehow seem to have that effect, Skyrim was the exact same. Once you've played enough of the game, it hooks you and you can look past a lot of it's flaws.
the billion menu changes and loading screens are a shit but at least they only take .01 seconds, once you start doing something that doesnt require jumping to 10 different locations witht the map its fine

@@josh9673 Doubtful. There's a few things that will likely never be modded into this game. Seamless atmosphere flight, actual world's without boundaries, and sci-fi land vehicles (that work well). This is due to engine limitations and no amount of modding will fix the backend functionality of an old engine.
@Nightcore_Paradise seamless tile transition mod already exists tho. Ground vehicles yeah, will probably take a while unless Bethesda decides to add it In. Remember skyrim didn't have horse combat until people complained enough

My favorite part of Bethesda games is the exploration of the world and sadly this game doesn’t look very fun to explore. Still might try it with heavy discounts though.
The explore factor is extremely different from there other titles with less focus on the open world and heavy focus on quest and factions/religions. I’m assuming cause of the scale of the game
Wait for updates, and then wait for mods or a price drop, whichever comes first. You'll enjoy it more when it's running more as intended, the bugs aren't the "Funny game enhancing" kind but the "Annoying and immersion breaking" ones.
@granttodd3118 You literally can though. New Vegas and Skyrim both improved their AI in patches, and later in mods, and add ons. Empty areas can be improved and built upon, like in New Vegas and Skyrim, both of which featured add ons that were well received that utilized empty areas and added more content. No Man's Sky basically had an entire game overhaul that added a ton new intrigue and diversity to the game as a free update spree, improving AI, adding multiplayer, adding more unique stuff to the game to explore and interact with, etc. It's not like some sort of "We can only get 1 chance ever" thing like shooting a rocket to probe a meteor swooping by Earth, it's a program, you can modify it and change it.
@@katlicks just gonna point out that other people fixed the games for bethsaida most of the time. They just stole the mods and made a bad update/patches with those mods. The hd update was worse for skyrim than what the hd mods did for example.
"It's not the most ambitious Bethesda game. Just a normal Bethesda game, in space." And that's exactly why so many people are upset with it, aside from the bugs of course. They pulled attention away from a long awaited installment in the elder scrolls franchise. Todd Howard raised expectations when he blamed the delay of ES6 on the production of Starfield. Almost 6 fucking years ago, they teased this game alongside ES6, which even in 2018 was SEVEN YEARS AFTER SKYRIM. ES6 is one of the most anticipated upcoming games and they haven't even announced anything about it other than it's still 2-3 years away. That is one of the longest gaps in video game history, aside from titles like Kid Icarus which no one cares about. Even the gap between Fallout 2 and Fallout 3 was only 10 years and THEY COMPLETELY CHANGED THE GAME. They're not taking this long on ES6 because they 'want it to perform it's best on next gen consoles' and they're full of shit for saying it. There is no expected change in performance in the next series of consoles. They'll just become literal computers with gamepad support in the next generation. And even then, diminishing returns set in at about 4k at 100-120 fps which is fairly common already. I'm sure the current gen Xbox can already manage that. The reason they're delaying it is because as long as they hold ES6 in their back pocket, they can release shit game after shit game and remaster old games that fell off when the player base had to start thinking about a 401k (looking at you Quake players). The fact that Starfield went straight to PC GamePass is saying something about their level of confidence in the game. They know that 1.) Anyone who buys the game is going to refund it, like Quin did, and 2.) A lot of people already have GamePass because there are some decent games on there occasionally, so they're not making any additional money from the release of Starfield on GamePass. This game NEEDED to be overly ambitious and beyond expectations because everything that was riding on it. Bethesda has been a triple A publisher/developer since every game prior to Fallout 76 has had terrific reception and such good replay-ability that they were able to sell copies to the same customers for a different platform. How many people own multiple copies of Skyrim? I own digital copies of it for PS3, 360, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC, and PCVR. That says a lot when someone makes a gaming platform change and instead of saving their money, they buy a game they've already beaten and put several hundred hours into.
Starfield is a time waster game plain & simple. You're not playing it because it does anything special or unheard of, it's just "more Bethesda." & for gamers™ that have abysmal standards as they buy NBA & Madden & CoD every year, this is enough for them to waste money on until the next installment of Fallout

Regarding the claims that CPS doesnt do well, I can confirm. I had a family member hold me up against a wall by my throat and had bruises to show. When CPS got involved, they pretty much just said, damn thats rough. When we took it to court, CPS provided no evidence to support my case and it got dropped.
So we went from "The game that will define a generation" to "It's a Bethesda game so you will like it if you're into that". Quite the goal post shift. Game looks like a chore, average at best and I can't stand the awful looking npc's. Might pick this up after the mods fix it tho if there is a dry spell.
It's the same with every game. People freak out about it overhype it completely and once it's released they are disappointed. They are insane basically because they genuinely believe that playing some game once it's released will be the answer to all their problems.

Too much for a space game that barely has any "features" in space. You can't freely fly from planet to planet and you can't land and lift your ship within a planet. Everything is just a cutscene. Still a good Bethesda game.
Play it yourself and see, the questing is some of the best I've ever seen in a bethesda game. The pacing is up to you, if you want to take it slow then you can, if you want constant action, you can do that too by doing quests constantly (with many chances to persuade/talk yourself out of situations).
I remember when Skyrim was first released back in the day and ppl were doing cosplay music videos about it etc... It was really something spectacular. Starfield is basically Skyrim/Fallout in space. That's it. Idk what else ppl were expecting. It is a Bethesda rpg game. It is a fun game and a good game. Have fun :)
Id say Bethesda fallout only, not Skyrim. Reason being is Skyrim was truly creative with it's music but the music here in starfield sounds more akin to fallout 4 or New Vegas. Good but not Skyrim good.
Except it's not normal Bethesda. The world interaction with objects seems dumbed down. The planets look empty and pointless to explore. Why does the map have be so horrible? When I play fallout or skyrim i try to fast travel as little as possible so i experience the world. This game seems takes that possibility away. It looks vapid and boring to me so far.
Yea half the fun of old Bethesda games was just exploring and finding things in the world. Starfield could have been amazing but they settled for middle of the road.
That's really not saying much, Outerworlds was one of the most painfully average games I ever played. I can't even remember the name of a single character or one time I was really having fun. Total snooze fest throughout.
Hell no that's a heavy disagree. I love Outer worlds. The world and characters are awesome and the only reason it's lacking in anything is because of the studio being a corporate stupid dummy head and rushed the devs so they had to close down areas and shrink the playing zone and reduce NPCs.
@@maddyewton5802 I enjoyed Obsidian but they really do bring on half the hardship onto themselves with their pacing and workflow. They can do amazing shit in a crunch but they can also really drop the ball and just not get shit done sometimes. It doesn't help that they kept trying to sell it as "From the people that brought you New Vegas" but everyone that worked on New Vegas was either fired or left minus one or two people. It was pretty clear the nuances of Sawyer had been lost in place of a very cynical "Look at the camera" type of humor and writing style that played self aware. Despite Sawyer being a rather opinionated weirdo, the guy can really put aside his biases and write really even handed and fair approaches to even factions he extremely disagrees with, letting them take a realistic approach and lets the player naturally understand why they're bad, rather than the hamfisted "They're cartoon villains and the cool people call them fascists" style we often see in media post 2012.
Yeah but not by much lmfao plus outer worlds is obviously a smaller scale game with a smaller dev team so Bethesda has no choice to be better and bigger. Also a very poor comparison

@@katlicks 7 isn’t a bad score, people don’t have any nuance… not everything is perfect especially a Bethesda game.
Standard stuff for Bethesda games, how many mods were needed to make Fallout 3 good? 50?
So really, the planets are just small, glorified levels with tight boundaries.
Well, no. If you actually play the game you’ll see that planets are just that, planets. Some have cities and others don’t.
@@Bagbonk It's pretty bad when a space game that's about exploration has loading screens tbh.
@@Nightcore_Paradise It's a 140 gb game, do you expect it to not have loading screens? You would have to have a fucking NASA computer to render an entire planet in full scale with realistic textures.

@Nightcore_Paradise seamless tile transition mod already exists tho. Ground vehicles yeah, will probably take a while unless Bethesda decides to add it In. Remember skyrim didn't have horse combat until people complained enough

Better than putting your character in cryosleep to get between planets lol
"It's not the most ambitious Bethesda game. Just a normal Bethesda game, in space."
And that's exactly why so many people are upset with it, aside from the bugs of course.
Lots of potential here. Couple good updates can send this game into game of year category great story overall.

Play it yourself and see, the questing is some of the best I've ever seen in a bethesda game.
