Fuck me, this is beautiful. Love filled that concrete temple and that's all that matters. From a former U2 stalker that vividly remembers how it felt to hear this song sung at the Hartford Civic Center in May 1984. I could have died happy right there and then.
Hartford Civic Center? Perchance are you a New Englander?😀 I'm a Massachusetts kid born and raised and I saw them on St Patrick's Day at the Garden in 1992. One of the best nights of my life and by far the best concert I've ever seen.
If it were up to some of you 'U2 fans' here, Bono would still have a mullet. If you dont like how its performed now then go back to watching videos from 1985 and let the rest of us enjoy it.
I love the 1984 live version, it's one of my all time favorites, but this rendition is amazing also. They still have the sincerity, passion, energy and charisma that they've always been known for. Glad they brought this back to the set list.😀
He sure used to be. He was in the elite tier of frontmen with Robert Plant, Freddie mercury, Eddie Vedder, Chris Cornell, etc. But not anymore. His voice sounds so thin, tinny, and bordering on shrill here. I was at this show in Seattle. My 8th U2 show. My last. Can’t justify spending more money than they’ve ever charged in their career while putting out the worst product they’ve ever offered.
This is the one song I'm most looking forward to hearing in September. Never heard it live and it's one of my favourites. Thx so much for this little taste! 😊👍
A glimpse, alas, is what we're left with. at 57 his voice ain't what it used to be, but it's still pretty good. Much like Roger Daltrey, U2's songs don't allow much room for Bono to hide.
U2 are one of the greatest bands ever, but i feel like the fans are not that loyal for their songs, I mean, a lot of people in their concerts only knows the hits, it's a shame because there are really great songs that never were a single and people doesn't know the lyrics
Hoping to go 1 night n work 4 One.org another at the June Soldiers Field shows. love this song but rather hear Unforgettable Fire n instead of I will Follow 2 hearts or 40 or party girl. staring at the sun would be cool but the whole Joshau tree n adding big opening acts like The Lumineers is a great addition they don't need to do.
I'm not sure I like that modern digital sounding backing track of a synth/piano or some computer composed musical pattern...I'd prefer the more organic analogue backing track you here on the live 1985 "wide awake in America" Ep recording....
as a massive u2 fan from the 80s and seen my favorite band many many times .............is it just me or is bono sounding weak and dare i say it crap??!! he and they were amazing at the 02 in london on the ie tour but listening to him on this tour, ................
Zoo tv is the best tour they ever did i love u2 but i would rather listen to old cds aND DVDS then spend hard money to see them bono 's voice is garbage
Yeah I guess it’s pretty cool they’re playing the old songs again. But considering Bono took such little care of himself for so long and now sounds like he’s 80 here when he’s only 57, it’s rather anti-climactic. He sounds absolutely terrible. And the crazy thing is it’s gotten significantly worse in the 7 years since this. and to be clear, it’s got absolutely nothing to do with age. Simon Le Bon and Robert Smith sounds fantastic. Eddie Vedder? Fantastic. Paul McCartney sounded great until he was 78. The odd thing is Bono can still hit the notes. So the only conclusion is it’s just laziness and indifference.
stop complaining. this is not 1984 anymore. I'm so happy they brought this song back into the set list after 30 years.
Lazaro Diaz yeah, but the synthesizer at the beginning just doesn't work, right
Nirvana comeback asti you are

Samuel Smith were you listening in 1984 or r u a noob?
All these complaints, it's ridiculous! Be glad they're touring! I'm thrilled they finally brought this one back from the dead, whatever modifications.

The fact is that the backing track sounds horrendous and ruins this latest version.....
Bono for eternity best signer all times
agreed he sounds great

No spoken words, just a scream
See the sky, the burning rain
She will die and live again
awesome 1985 !!!!!!
I actually like this version think it sounds great

My Favorite Band of ALL TIME..... I'VE Seen Them Every Performance in California Since 1981....SO AMAZING
Oh Come My Way...oh Come My Way....Say I....Oh Come My Way Say I !!!!!
first u2 song i ever heard at 14! tuff ta beat!
This is making me weep like the tween girl I was when I saw this tour the first time around.... 30 years ago
Anyone who got to hear both a sort of homecoming and bad are so lucky
Larry Mullen Jr, take a bow son.
I was there. Incredible show! This mini -set before they got into the Joshua Tree was unbelievable!
Great version, I was there and losing my damn mind
if you see 1987's live version , bono sings it the same way !! i love this version
if you go to 3:40, you can hear a glimpse of Bono's great voice from the 80s, when he shouts "just a screeeeeeam!!" 💖
A glimpse, alas, is what we're left with. at 57 his voice ain't what it used to be, but it's still pretty good. Much like Roger Daltrey, U2's songs don't allow much room for Bono to hide.
ALISTAIR COOKIE even 20 years ago on the Pop Tour it was getting hard for him to sing many of the pre JT songs.
I love this, many thanks for posting!
Mullen Jr GREATEST rock drummer of all time!!!!!!!!
Agreed
Your delusional
Delusional
Thank you U2... still going 💪
Makes me feel alive!
one of the best
Wow that was amazing!!!
best ever, Home!
brilliant .......................................
Swaggy squash, the swaggiest of all squashes, performed beautifully.
What are you people complaining? If you want to hear the original version just put your headphones and skip the show.
The best exclamation point
Love the synths added t it.
Wish they would do an acoustic version of this
I always liked the more stripped down simpler stage set up! It emphasizes the music more. Their songs do not need a fancy stage or setup around them.
I just saw them at Metlife. If they played this song I would have lost my shit. Havent heard Sort of Homecoming live since 1985.

@terrorsittich do you have the entire night shot on camera you could make a long form video out of?
No spoken words just a scream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Simplesmente os melhores
I love that they are playing this but the new synth part sounds like a space age appliance. I would be happy with the Wide Awake in America style.
I thought the same. I was like wtf is this.
It sounds Nintendo-ish. I want to play Super Mario Bros now...
weird He felt strangely at home in Santa Clara as well. I feel lied to now :(
Do you also believe bands when they say nobody rocks like (insert your town)?
Sacasm .... look it up
It was intended as a sarcastic joke of its own
.
I mean, if it makes you feel better, he was only strangely at home in, like, 8 places.
Linda canção!! U2 ----------- S2
Time to heal
Desire time
Boy Bono / Paul Hewson loves his band.

LARRY !!! ILU
What a dead crowd. COME TO BRAZIL!!!!
Caroline Labuto it happened
BOM ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Bono with the gay welsh-man. love you! xD

His voice sounds good to me. Its still pretty powerful - listen to the way his hits those "tonights" at 1:29 and just a "just a screeeeaaaaaam"
"just a scream" at 3:40
His voice had more range and power on the ZooTV tour
brutal synthesizer Edge, why oh why? ruins the song..

This is a terrible version of one of their best songs. How can anyone like this?
It’s brilliant. I would have loved to have seen them play this
I've been there for 35 years let's face it Bono it's time to hang up the microphone.
