BD Wong's performance as White Rose I think is one of the most underrated in 21st century television. Like you said, you are locked in every time his character is on screen but I never hear anyone talk about his performance. Naturally, we gravitate towards the Walter White, Saul Goodman, Eliot Anderson, Lannister family, Gus Fring, Don Draper, Omar Little, June Osborne but White Rose just incredible and BD Wong deserves his flowers, or roses in this case
@@Amatsu2077 Is he that complex though? I mean he makes himself look complex, but his motivation is kinda cliché and what he wants to achieve is really goofy too. He's a really good character but I kinda found his motivation to be a bit disappointing cuz I kinda was expecting something bigger and mind-blowinger.
@@MamadNobariHe is delusional, in many of the same ways that Elliot is delusional. But the difference is he is grasping for something that is completely impossible by means that are also themselves impossible and leaving a trail of bodies in his pursuit of that goal, while Elliot’s goal is, at its heart, to make the world a better place for the people he loves. The means he chooses in his delusions are unlikely to achieve that, but depending on who’s in charge he’s usually trying not to cause too much collateral damage (something Mr. Robot seems more willing to do). They’re meant to complement and contrast one another, and in that respect White Rose is a fantastically drawn character, but still a character that exists in service to Elliot’s in a literary sense.
@@matthewhearn9910 Oh yeah, I definitely get that. He's a fantastic character and you're right that he mirrors Elliot's ambition and delusions. I just thought his motivation for all of it was let's say a bit "typical" and not that creative compared to the rest of the writing. (Though most of Mr. Robot is just stealing (in a good way) and inspirations from other shows and movies.)
The sudden intensity of violence in this show is shocking in a very unique way. They aren't centered, there's no dramatic swell of music, just silence as they appear from the background and then some crazy action. There's a later scene that reminds me of this too. Nobody does it like Esmail
That's an incredibly interesting take, always saw that as tyrells version of elliot but now that i think about it that adds a lot too it Fuck me man this show
When this show originally aired I used to wait until the day after so I could stream it on USA Network's site. As I watched more and more, the show got so dark and so intense that I would immediately open up Netflix and put on an episode of The IT Crowd as a mental pallet cleanser. This was the episode of Mr Robot that made me start that practice.
The crazy thing about this show is...when it was airing in real time the Ashley Madison hacks happened during season 1. Then, the episode where dude ruined Angela's shoes after deleting himself, happened the same week that that reporter was offed on live tv in Virginia. They post-poned airing for a week. This episode aired when all the pizza gate wayfair rumors started. It's wild bro!
The sound you made after the abrupt violence of Dom's scene cut away perfectly matched the noises my brain was making, and I just wanted to say I appreciated that you could verbalise that hahaha
Loving the discussions and reaction, you should def check out Severance (2022) after this i feel like u would appreciate it, its only one season and its perfect
This definitely gave me a damn shock at the end!

Hands down one of the best most complex villans I've ever watched.

White Rose is very intimidating but also incredibly human.

Joanna Wellick is terrifying, but I can change her.
Bro 😂 💀
lmfaooooo!
Not me literally drinking coffee when I read this and spitting it out 🤣
"I can fix her" < "she would make me worse"
Did White Rose show her dresses to Dom just because she thought she would die soon after in the attack?
thats cold💀
Yeeeeeeeep
One of the best episodes of the series hands down. Each season has it standout episodes and for s2, this was one.
