It was absolutely wild. I knew the audience was in for a heck of a trip when the old school USA Network logo popped up. Awesome that the network bought in so much they allowed for ads -- their _money_ - to take a back seat.
The quote that was not included in the clip with this reaction is very important, when Mr. Robot says "we always have a destination" and in the next episode it will continue "the destination is you". And this line is VERY IMPORTANT for the future of the series! [Sorry for the many comments here from me🤓]
I couldn't believe my freaking eyes when I saw this episode. The cajones they had to just do this, to fully break from their show's format and go completely off the wall. Hardly _ever_ seen anything like it.
I heard that they actually brought back several people who used to work behind the scenes on 90s sitcoms for this episode, even the theme music being composed by a 90s sitcom theme composer. And the alien is ALF, the iconic 1980s sitcom character.
There are so many easter eggs in every episode too, nothing is accidental, even the smallest details. Seeing everyone try to figure everything out as the show was airing about what clues were out there and what comes next was pretty awesome to see. Esmail went off the rails with this show. Nothing else still comes close.
I love how this comes right after that super dark episode. This is one of the most creative genre blends and they walk SUCH a fine line between like eight pitfalls this episode could have fallen into and not worked. In fact, it's a testament to the whole crew that they actually pulled this off and kept the tone and dialog on point. It can't be too funny, too serious, too removed from the plot, too dramatic or too campy without becoming a season and series low point. I appreciate the risk that this episode must have been until they saw the edited footage with audio and effects and breathed a sigh of relief. Sorry for stanning, but this show and the entire production crew that made it are painfully under appreciated in my estimation.
Definitely the weirdest episode! We need some milk. Better Call Saul & More Always Sunny & Mr. Robot on Patreon! Click here: www.patreon.com/jamesvscinema Have a great day y'all!
A lot of episodes and themes seemed to me to be homages to great shows or films, like Fight Club or things that mentioning might spoil some unrevealed arcs, but this episode goes all the way and makes it unquestionable.
@@ghostmkc4045I think you misinterpreted what the original commenter meant. He was saying that between all Mr.Robot's gimmick episodes, this one is the "weakest". But great on its own nonetheless.
Remember Alf? He's back ... in pog form. ... you know, it's a real fucking bummer to feel the generational divide in pop-cultural milestone recognition... Nothing gives me existential dread more than knowing my kid isn't gonna have any idea what I'm talking about when I reference 90's Simpsons referencing 80's sitcoms.
Based on your treatment of this show so far, I’d love to see you dive into the masterpiece that is One Piece. I know it’s daunting in a number of ways, but the payoffs are there
Funny how they used the pword Joshua. Seems a well used pw. In what 80's. What film used that as the pw? Hint = WOPR. Answers on a postcard to > You Know the shop is Mr ROBOT it was in S1.
Fun fact: when this aired, they played actual commercials from the 90s during the commercial break!
Yeah it was completely seamless
Wow I didn’t know that, I didn’t see it live. Wonder if there’s a torrent that includes the commercials because that’s cool as hell lol
@@davidbowman2001 It's out there somewhere, they were included in the one I watched at the time

Yeah the commercials were probably the best part.
Mr. Robot is my favorite sitcom of all time.

Yeah, Alien Life Form, ALF. Always watch it on a Saturday afternoon in the UK. Ah the 80's when people knew what bathroom to use, those were the days.
AKA Gordon Shumway.
@@SLAP1FACE Seeing that it's a highlight reply, ahh you got a little pat on the head from teacher. That's nice, bet you feel all warm and fuzzy. lol
Grace Gummer who plays Dom is Meryl Streeps daughter. She definitely got her acting genes from her mom.
11:47 Oh boy, Aaron from Blind Wave is gonna love this.
I had the exact same thought when i saw that lmfao
I’ll come back to this in the future 😂
P. S. That hugging scene. Mr. Robot is a true protector. He always WAS...🙏🏻
This show is freaking amazing.

One of my favorite episodes of season 2. It took everyone by surprise with all the 90s sitcom part. What an amazing job!
this show is soooo good. your commentary is also extremely entertaining and I can't wait for more!
In a way this episode was more disturbing than watching him get beaten up. I would laugh then cringe. It was so well done.
The beginning of this episode left me so fucking confused. I loved it. And the little Alf cameo was fucking hilarious.
Picked the right time to refresh youtube, here we go!
I love ALF!
This episode is pure gold!
That Full House-esque intro!
This show is next level!

One of my favorite episodes of the series. I was blown away.
Fan fact: In his youth, Rami Malek played in the sitcom "The War at Home" 😁
They actually got the same people who wrote the Full House theme to write and perform the song they used for this episode
Yo, Elliot's mom has hands.
Definitely the weirdest episode! We need some milk.

The alien's name is Gordon Shumway.
Around 3 mins in is hilarious haha
the short hairy fella is Gordon Shumway
The relationship between Elliot and Mr Robot being ‘parasitic’ becomes incredibly interesting as we learn more as the show goes on
A true classic
Mr Robot has the best gimmick episodes, this one is probably the 'worst' and it's still an A/S tier episode.
Quite the opposite, this is regarded as a highly loved episode for how good it was.
