The competition lacks in one area, and that's hardware. The Quest 3 for example has 40% of the hardware of the AVP. Looking at the software, it's around 80%, where primarily the lack of better hardware makes the experience better on the AVP (excellent cameras for hand tracking, even though passthrough is only a bit better on the AVP, great OLED panel, etc.). But then again the price is 7x more. Apple showed us what currently is the best you can archive with VR. But as I mentioned before that the software is not lacking here on other headsets, it's gonna be easier for the competition to create better VR headsets than the AVP that do not primarily target gaming at a lower price.

Would really scratch those powerwash simulator OCD itches.

A real picture is the light captured by the sensor, without any processing after the capture stage. Now that definition can get conceptually blurry when you stack separate images together to get more visual information than a single image can capture - but that's different from applying filters that completely alter the information.
