Discover A HIDDEN Plant Community in Singapore - RARE Aroids And Jungle Plants @blacksun.botanist

  • In this episode, I team up with Leslie from @blacksun.botanist at a little known greenhouse area called Seletar West Farmway 9 - where a community of plant lovers set up their nurseries and shops to grow plants they love! Singapore is a tiny island with mostly dense and urban residential and commercial zones with mostly high-rise buildings. This poses a challenge to passionate collectors and small business owners. Hence, there was a need to build these communities to sustain growth and cultivation!
At @blacksun.botanist, we tour his fascinating collection, including large aroids, variegated plants, interesting aglaonemas, and tons of jungle plants from Southeast asia. I discovered so many new species in this tour, and I bet you will too. Leslie generously shared his green house care tips as well as his propagation projects.
This is a good start as we explore more collectors in Singapore in the upcoming episodes.

It’s wonderful how people got together to create this plant oasis! I learned about a totally new genus and species today, Michaelmoelleria vietnamensis. As soon as I saw the flower I knew it had to be in the gesneriad family. Leslie has some very interesting species of uncommon genera. Thanks for the tour!!

    Wow....that was so inspiring Sean.
    What AMAZING COLLECTIONS.....
I could have spent days in there, waiting to get a chance to see what everyone was growing.
Would have bought a lot of plants if I could convince them to part with them. The incredible colour variations and textures on a lot of the local Indonesian plants ( guessing a lot from Borneo ) was absolutely mindblowing 😁😲
    Another save to my playlist🙏🙏🙏

I breed snakes (Royal Pythons) and Black Headed Caiques but of all the other hobbies I have, growing orchids and plants have the best people. You can fly from country to country, continent to continent and real plant people are the friendliest. I know if it was possible, most of us would be inundated with cuttings from people all over the world. I know this because ebay vendors have received cuttings from me, and me from them. It's fabulous.
Thanks again. Sean for another wonderful video. :)

    Thanks Sean.....
Just thowing a thought out into the ether.....
Will all the knowledge and the incredible list of connections you have amassed with local growers, esp in Indonesia...
.Have you or would you consider offering plant buying trips for very small groups
ie : 1 to 3 people at most, so you could cater to specific individuals wants. And depending on their buget could be 1 or 2 days. Is that something you could add to your already imressive skills list.
Could do a vlog on the occassional trip as well as make all this aquired knowledge create another income stream.
    I would.definately sign up.......when I move to Indonesia.
Well if its not something thats crossed your mind before.......NOW IT HAS 😃😄😁
