  • In this episode, we tour the nursery Duta Hijau Abadi with Mr @noldy.topan to see what they are growing now. We will encounter past “rare” plants and also upcoming rare plants that are scaling up stock for retail. Mr Noldy was generous enough to share his experience with rare plants cultivation as well as hunting and selling them worldwide. Mr Noldy has a huge collection of variegated anthuriums, which are the next big thing in the market.

    Once again Sean, this is a brilliant episode but it also gives us a bit of insight on how Indonesian nursery keeps track on their Anthurium species . It is such a pity that there are so many beautiful hybrids of anthuriums but with no ids. As a collector, I would prefer to know what cross hybrid im purchasing, at least I know what traits im getting from the parent plants. However, there are collectors who dont mind with no ids as long as the foliages allure them to purchase. Dont get me wrong but indonesia also have specialized anturium breeder like karteldaun but their pricing is always at a premium . 😭

    • @onlyplants
      @onlyplants  Год назад +2

      Yeahhh It would be a lot more interesting if we knew the parentage… but a lot of parent plant “species” were actually not pure to begin with. And some of them were forms/mutations of original species… i can imagine it being challenging for the growers to keep track or even be sure of what they had as motherplants. 🫠

    Thank you for another interesting episode. Maybe you could do a video on how to tell anthuriums apart from philodendrons - some of the ones shown here could have been either. I think that philodendrons have thicker leaves, but I don't know if that's true.

    • @onlyplants
      @onlyplants  Год назад

      Its actually near impossible to tell them apart unless by the flower. But some of the more popular anthuriums have distinct leaf shape that immediately sets them apart from philodendrons.

    why are you so obsessed with propagation??? Just enjoy the plants you have, they must be for your happiness. It's like buying a dog with the intention of using it for breeding. Horrible concept, nothing to do with passion.

    • @onlyplants
      @onlyplants  5 месяцев назад

      Dogs are plants are completely separate topics. I had 2 dogs that Ive raised from baby until the end of their lives. Never have I thought about breeding them, in fact I had them spayed so they can enjoy a good quality of life.
      Back to plants - I love creating life and beauty, and sharing them with people. And one might argue that successful species are ones that we propagate more of. For example, some may say grain plants are being exploited for food, but I would say they cunningly use us humans to help them reproduce and spread worldwide.
      Ultimately, a plant that has a wider reach is the victor in the genetic race.
