- The Apple Watch Series 9 is finally here with the first chip upgrade we have seen on the Apple Watch in 3 years. However, there were actually a few surprises this year on the Series 9 Apple Watch including a brighter display, double the storage, new double pinch feature, and a new U2 chip. Apple also updated the Apple Watch Ultra 2 with the same S9 chip, and a brighter display, but are these watches still worth the additional premium over the budget friendly Apple Watch SE?

Going from Series 3 to Series 9. The only feature that impacts me with not going with Ultra 2 is the extra battery life. Everything else is whatever. Dont need 49 vs. 45. Dont need action button or titanium screen...but the price difference of 400 vs. 800....doesnt make sense to choose Ultra 2...for me.

I have bought apple watch 1, 4, and 7. Wife has 1, 4 and 8. I believe I'll buy an ultra 2 with a trail loop. It looks like fun! I'm not too active at the moment, had to have an aortic valve replaced recently and a pacemaker installed 2 weeks ago so I am just starting to get a bit active. Went for a half mile walk today! It's a start!!

I think I will get the SE. Had a stainless steel series 4 I think it is, know there is a faster chip however never thought the s8 chip is that slow personally. However with the new apps might prove otherwise. Also definitely will add the assertive touch to the watch, didn’t know this was a feature all along.
Do you know if the S9 has a magnet that can interfere with a pacemaker?
I’ve just ordered a series 9 to replace my aging series 2. I probably should have upgraded last year because the battery on my series 2 has gotten really flaky over the past year, where it’s almost becoming unusable; it needs charging 4 or 5 times a day! Anyway, struggling with it for the past year means I get a proper upgrade with the new chip.
I have 2nd generation SE, I’ll try to wait until 10 comes out next year.

Going from Series 6 to Series 9. I think the Ultra is too big for me but I’d definitely buy a smaller one like a 46mm if that ever happens
I wish apple made their ULTRA with actually women or men who like smaller watches like a 41mm ultra would be awesome

Same here… love the Ultra form factor but not the size……use the 40 mm 6 series with Ultra Case which boasts its size to 42-43 mm…and it fits perfectly in my small wrist…..tried the ultra several times…and just felt too big…..trust that slightly smaller Ultra size will sell like crazy…. (If apple ever listen)
I would get a 55mm if they offered it. 😂

honestly I think the Series 9 is the best choice especially for your first Apple watch.
Do you think the 1st gen se is worth it? Can get the nike celluar one for $159. I dont need ekg and mainly just want as a watch and to read texts or see whos calling. Do a little fitness tracking too.

The problem is: i do like the watch and want to try it, however, i am using iPhone 5s as daily phone, and as per Apple, the Apple Watch series 9 will be incompatible with my phone. But can i still use Apple Watch GPS as a watch? Surprisingly, sellers in the Best Buy couldn't answer.
My series 1 worked perfectly until last week when the battery swelled. Sucks. I finally have to get a new one!

The first Apple Watch I had was the series 4. I didn’t feel a need to upgrade until the Ultra. I’ll probably be here for a while lol.
Have you seen what they done with the new AirPods? They re released it with a usbc should’ve done that from the start.

I'm unsure of which if any upgrade I'll do. I have the iWatch 4 (non-cellular) and would get the non-cellular version if whichever I get. It still works fine but it old and seems to have issues communicating with my new 13 that it didn't with my SE 2nd Gen

Can you recommend some good ultra bands with nice vibrant colors? Apple removed the few brighter color bands once Tuesday rolled around. Very disappointing.

Hey Greg, what is your take for surfers. I notice you mentioned more accurate GPS tracking on the Ultra, is this significant compared to the 9? Any input appreciated, I think I like the size of the 9 better but do not want to compromise on features that track exercise, like, running, walking, surfing, weights. Can you LMK your thoughts here, much appreciated.
The S9 is “swim capable” much like the older models. The Ultra is “dive capable”. The 9 is fine in a swimming pool, but I wouldn’t trust it so much in a rough ocean or surfing.
I still have series 6 red version and I've been wanting the Ultra so bad but that price is crazyyy.. still getting it though and keep it for years. I don't really buy every watch and iPhone that comes out every year.

I'm like do it already 🤣 Its no brainer with the battery life. As long as you like the look/size of ultra, then its definitely worth the upgrade
Sounds good. However from past experience you should try it on in store before you buy it. I ordered one and returned it. It was too heavy for my need I have a series 5 rarely ever take it off, i wear it too sleep. The aluminum Apple weighs almost nothing.

I have a Series 5 (black) and decided to just order the Ultra 2: thanks for mentioning that the older watches do support the tap gesture in accessibility. I've just tried it on my 5: I gather the accuracy is off-if I didn't hit the direct center pads of both fingers, it wasn't registering. I'll be anxious to see the difference compared to the Ultra 2. I'm getting the blue alpine band with it as I think it looks nice. Also getting a metal link band for formal wear. Also think I'll hold on to the 5 for when I want something lightweight and different color.

I upgraded from a series 7. Wanted to sapphire display and the titanium body. The brighter screen is a big bonus. Hopefully, it’ll put up with more abuse.
Are usually get two days out of my series 8, but I also disabled a bunch of stupid features that are stupid like that always on

I currently have series 4 which is 5 years old, mostly works fine except battery, have to charge every 10-12 hours. I'm split, should I wait for series 10 (on 10th anniversary apple can rollout big updates as did with iPhone 10) or upgrade to series 9 now?
The 9 is effectively the same as the 8, which was the same as the previous 2 versions. If battery life is your priority, go for a Garmin. If you want to keep in the apple eco system...maybe pick up a used cheaper AW 8 and next year assess

I bought an SE 2nd gen a few weeks ago. I work out everyday, it says I averge 58 minutes a day. Its the 44mm with GPS version.
But the way I use it, it has waaay better battery than advertised. I charge it a few hours before bed every night. I use it when I sleep to track sleep, I have every health sensor available on. But when I charge it at night, it usually has 60% battery left, and Ive been using it 24 hours already by then
My S4 is being upgraded to the S9. I didn't think I'd use the watch as much as I do when I bought it. I surprised myself.
My Series 4 still works, and now has double tap. Thanks. I probably won’t upgrade until the watch could last over a weekend without being charged.

Probably not upgrading yet. I have an apple watch series 4 thats working just fine for me currently and was the biggest watch upgrade for me since I went from being a Fitbit user to being an apple watch user. if I do upgrade I'm going for the series 9 in the future.

I feel better about skipping out on the Ultra 2 and ordering the Series 9, instead. It's literally the best middle ground. I don't like the chunkiness nor the form factor of the Ultra 2, and I certainly will not find myself doing extreme sports.

Birthday coming up in October and thinking very seriously of buying the Ultra 2 and getting rid of my older Fenix 6x pro and Apple watch 7..... Still not impressed with the overall battery life though

Being someone in healthcare it would be nice if Apple if able to release either an OS for the medical field or a watch for us. That will be such a big hit since every nurse, doctor, paramedic, and other healthcare staff has an Apple Watch.
Ordered two Apple Watch series 9. Coming from a series 7, and a series 5 .
Idk. Im enjoying my series 7. I’m thinking of upgrading when they include a prescription for a CGM on the watch. I’ll probably upgrade my phone when they have Apple glasses with prescription lenses to whatever frames you. That’s a bit more redesign and a reason to buy a new Apple product to me anyway

I have watched several of these Apple watch videos now and still don't know what to get.
Finally switching to ios this year and after the event... couldnt wait.. today i bought the ultra. Currently using an i8 until the new pro max but i am ok using this so that i get used to ios.
I think the multiday battery is better for when you go out with your friends after a whole day away from a plug.
higher temperatures would also work for city in warm places, my series 1’s screen deglued while I was walking in Mexico city.
I decided to upgrade this year from series 5 to ultra 2 and after this video I’m sure I made the right choice. Thanks for nice review.
Great video and the first I’ve seen on your channel! I upgraded from the Series 5 Titanium to the Ultra 2. Believe It or Not the starting price on the Series 5 was more than this Ultra 2! A major bonus is that I can still use all the bands from my Series 5 including a nice stainless band I had purchased for my Series 1 nearly 10 years ago! Apple even offered me a $90 trade in credit on my Series 5!
My first smartwatch, I ordered the Ultra 2
I hadn’t had an iPhone for over 5 years since the 5. Went back to Apple last year (never going back to slow androids) got the XR, recently upgraded to the IPhone 14 Pro Max and got my first Apple Watch yesterday which was the 9 after doing comparisons. Highly user friendly and I’m already Tech savvy so it wasn’t hard to figure it out at all. Definitely a great watch and I actually just added the cellular plan for only a 1 time 30$ activation fee and 10 dollars for the plan which after the first month with Verizon goes to just an extra 10$ a month for it to be added to the plan. It may be since I have an unlimited plan but I’m not 100% sure if that’s why. I think it’s just a deal Verizon offers for its customers with an Apple Watch cuz Ik AT&T is like 25-30 a month. But anyways yeah the 9 is a great watch. Great features and a very intricately made piece of technology

I have the series 7 and I won’t upgrade until software updates get annoying
I think will finally not just make the upgrade, but the switch from my 5 year old Fitbit. Not that much happy with my 5 year old Fitbit in terms of battery charge, now need to recharge it every 2 days and half. Apple Watch series 9 has improved to 36 hrs on low power mode. But, don’t want to wait 1 or 2-3 more years to have a longer battery performance on Apple Watch. That battery thing has been the only dealbreaker for me to get one in the past.
I got the S9 in Silver and man it looks slick, had the S6 in Space Grey which i did love and was going to go for the Midnight until i physically saw it .... but thought the midnight black was toooo dense black i think it made the watch look like a toy tbh. So glad i went Silver love it 😉

I bet Apple are leading up to something big in 2024, thats why this years watch was just a minor spec bump. They couldnt give too much away this year.
