    *it never bothered me that Canon didn’t allow 3rd party lenses UNTIL I discovered this lens

    I just bought this lens on my way to a festival. I shot 17 bands and took 4,000 photos with this lens. This thing is a beast! I never had so many great photos ever before.
    Yes, it's noticeable heavier than e.g. the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8, but it's still totally worth it. It's just so good!

      It's the most versatile lens I've ever owned! I just to never want to take zooms with me if I wasn't shooting an event, but I take this one with me everywhere. It's the ultimate!

    Your work is sickkkk! I’ve been using this beast of a lens for a few months now, no complaints whatsoever

      Thanks man, appreciate that! It's such a great piece of kit. Putting it through its paces this summer!

    Great suggestion. I've been working with old Nikon D750's for years and need to upgrade. This definitely makes me want to look into Sony if the Tamron's work that well. Glad you had fun at SNW also!

      After shooting with Canon for so long, Sony feels like a cheat code in many respects! Definitely look into their system. I’m happy I made the switch!

      whats crazy Is that I came to comment and youre the newest one lol because I have a Nikon d750 as well and I feel like it'll be time for an upgrade soon but it still does me well. I'm looking to rent this lens for a festival thats why im looking up stuff such as this lol

    I actually meant to ask you why you dont shoot with Cannon anymore. Makes sense now. The camera I borrowed had a Nikon 18-180 3.5 - 5.6. I loved it!

      I had no intention of switching over, but when I discovered this lens, it opened my mind! It’s so insanely versatile and unlike anything Canon is currently offering.

    Wicked shots… makes me consider getting this lens, even thou I only have eyes for Sony native lens.

    • @danvirchow
      @danvirchow  9 месяцев назад +1

      This is legitimately the first non-native lens I have bought for a system with the intention of using it for professional work, and I can confidently say IT IS WORTH IT! Plus, there is no native Sony equivalent with this focal range. It's a unicorn!

    Dan, that range looks like it would be very useful. Cost for the Nikon Z version is $200 more than the Sony mount. I have a love hate relationship with my current Sony camera so I am glad to see the Z mount available.

    I fear boredom with these types of lenses. I just got back from shooting a festival in Norway a couple weeks ago, and I really wish I had a lens like this to cover all things, but I feel like there's a lack of a certain purity in that. Switching primes or zooms is a pain, but there's definitely some satisfaction that comes in nailing awesome shots with a more limited lens.

    • @danvirchow
      @danvirchow  5 месяцев назад

      Totally understand where you're coming from. But man...when it comes to events and especially concerts, you just can't beat something like this. If I were you, I'd rent it and see how you feel about it!

      @danvirchow I know 😭. I dunno I like to limit myself I guess lol. 24 to 105 is okay to me but anything that goes wide to telephoto I always shy away from. May try it one day

    Sold my Sigma Art 24-70 f2.8 and my Tamron 70-180 f2.8 for this lens... I was really hesitating to get this 35-150 or the Sony 70-200 GM II with a light 28-70 Sigma... but the versatility and not changing lenses during events, concerts or basketball games is just a game changer...

    • @danvirchow
      @danvirchow  9 месяцев назад +1

      Exactly. I had ZERO intentions of ever switching away from Canon, but this lens man…it was too good!

    • @g_lantos
      @g_lantos 9 месяцев назад

      @@danvirchow have you ever tested it with indoor sports? I was just wondering how’s the autofocus for you?
      Also it’s funny how people say it’s a heavy lens, but in the real world it’s just as heavy as the 70-200 GM II, actually with Sony’s big ass lens hood, and collar that lens is a heavier than this 35-150. 💁🏻‍♂️

    • @danvirchow
      @danvirchow  9 месяцев назад +1

      @@g_lantos I haven’t tested it with sports yet. But if it can keep up with headbanging musicians in a very dark environment, I have to believe that autofocus isn’t an issue!
      And yes, the weight isn’t bad at all considering what it is. That’s why I brought up the Canon lenses, especially the 28-70. What a brick!

    Looks like a very interesting lens. Not very long for close-up shots, but like one lens to do everything is great. I'm working with Olympus m4/3 and my go-to lens is 40-150 f/2.8 (80-300) for close-up shots there is no alternative in any other system, well if we don't count the Canon RF 100-300 f/2.8 🤭

    • @danvirchow
      @danvirchow  9 месяцев назад

      If you’re in a club environment, you could definitely rock some closeups with this. It’s very versatile! But for wildlife or anything along those lines, something longer would definitely be more ideal. Great music lens!

      Keep in mind that's f5.6 FF equiv for the Oly lens. Not good at all for concerts

    I have a nikon d750 and have been considering this lens, because one of my second shooters had this lens and the quality was out of this world, he had a Sony, so I am considering renting this for a festival. did you still need to find a good position to be in? or no matter where you were you got those up close shots? some people I may can be in the photo pit area but when we aren't allowed in the pits id like to use this lens. sick shots btw!

    • @danvirchow
      @danvirchow  9 месяцев назад

      I was able to get shots pretty much anywhere in the photo pit bc of the range. However, at the festival, the stage was massive so if I wanted to get pictures of the drummer, I would have to move to a specific spot. Overall though, it’s basically the only lens you need for 85-90% of shows. Definitely rent it to see if you like it! The image quality is great.

      I used to shoot with my nikon d750 for concerts until I went to mirrorless with sony. It is so hard to go back now. I shot a concert with both my sony a7iii and Nikon d750 last weekend and today I just made the jump to buy another sony (a7iv) and sell my Nikon. I love the mirrorless capabilities, instantly know light measurements in my screen and of course the auto eye focus. Now I am intrigued by this lens...thinking I may add it to my arsinal and ditch my other lenses. Thanks for a great review.

      Certainly not a light lens, but also not heavy considering what it is and does!
