I have only listened to about 20 minutes of Ms. Gotro during court proceedings. She blew me away. Her understanding of law and the way she handles her business in court is top notch in my book. If I were ever in need of a lawyer, I would go out of my way to try and retain her. Brilliant lady.
There was no claim of with holding exculpatory evidence. The prosecutor straight up said he didn't "feel" the evidence was germaine or credible. I'm pretty sire that was the judge's job and not his. No wonder there was a mistrial.

I think it’s probably because they had over 100 cases going at once. They basically charged every member of the MC with “participating in organized crime” there were dozens of lawyers involved. They probably were broke by that point. They also held them all on a cookie cutter $1,000,000 bail which I’m sure hurt their income earning capabilities and even when they got out they all had ankle monitors. The government doesn’t exactly fight fair. After this all ended they went after the lawyer and got her suspended for 3 years and fined $60k. She left Texas from my understanding because of this harassment campaign.

Becuz taking case pro Bono for 3 yrs got 8000 as a payment she has bills to pay as well maybe tent on an office or mortgage maybe putting kids thru college and simply stayed I cant keep defending J.C. w/o payment (her words )she couldnt even take on another case cuz that 1 consumed her and she did her job very well and will still be helping new trial lawyer I have alit of respect for her but bikers all lost their business for lawyer fees....1 that should be in jail is that damn D.A. who hid evidence!!!!

It is ONLY if there was a guilty or not guilty verdict. There has to be a clear verdict, a mistrial can be tried over and over until there is a clear verdict. Also a case cannot be tried/retried if the case is dismissed with prejudice.
This is how she got her continuance . SHE is a smart defense lawyer removing herself does two things. 1. It gives new counsel a chance to get up to speed 2. It preserves ineffective assistance 2254 claims for appeal. I'm sure the city and the people s case is not exactly damaged and aren't happy about it but it could boomerang on the defense helping the city to find more and better witnesses but speedy trial is really an advantage the defendant has under constitutional law. Hung jury in first case means they can retry because theres a failure to determine guilt or innocence either way . It's not double jeopardy because there was no verdict. If there was a verdict that might retry under a different code section or the feds could retry under a civil rights violation which has different elements to its definition as is being in Minnesota.

No doubt she’s a smart attorney but I am highly suspect as to why she would defend a biker gang member pro Bono. She’s an established attorney so she doesn’t need the publicity to get more business. She would also have been very aware how much time and expense would be involved. You’ve got to be careful as a lawyer acting for gangs. They will try to get you to do their bidding eventually.
Some state laws require law firms to do pro bono work. Maybe it was the reason in this case. Though I don't know if she chose this pro bono case or it was just given to her by her law firm.
