As a local Bangalorean, I hate what the politicians and civic bodies like BBMP, BWSSB have done to this once glorious city. Instead of creating a new city outside Bangalore , they have made illegal layouts, closed up lakes and created more illegal layouts. Not just PGs, even regular houses are built like this. Independent houses are so close to each other. Not only is it a safety hazard, but it is also a bane for privacy. After a certain point, people should be allowed to WFH completely for certain roles. I left during the pandemic and have been working remotely without any drop in my productivity. Your Zoom calls and Gmeet work just as fine as being in the room. Additionally, some people come from well-off backgrounds and buy multiple flats. That should be avoided too.
Unregulated building = Low rent and High profits (some money for bribes) Regulated building = Higher rent and Lower Margins (Lots of money to agencies) Unfortunately, the need for affordable building, greed and possibly corrupt/incompetent govt agencies has contributed to this boom. This is also only one city in the entire country.
all in my life i worked benguluru only in 2012, that time it was heaven, less crowd and weather. later i shifted to chennai completely. present day benguluru is so packed.
This is the situation everywhere. Once i was shown a room in a pg whose entrance was through a bathroom. Most pgs dont have ventilation, sun light. Its not a living condition for anyone. I hope there are some regulations around it
It's true and it isn't a pleasant sight. This problem has more faces than just the tightly packed buildings. People living there are also deprived of basic space and ventilation needs.
First of these mentioned areas doesn't even come under BBMP limits, they fall under Panchayat limit which don't need any plan approval or bye-laws to be followed. BBMP and BDA has failed to keep up rapid expansion of city due to their internal ego of "A" Katha. BBMP can only control that falls under their belt.
What about sewage disposal, rainwater harvesting, storm water drainage systems, potable water and lungs space? No amount of investment can solve the problem if basic town planning is missing
Same in Pune and every other IT hub. These PG associations recently carried out a protest asking IT companies to end WFH as it is hampering their business. Whereas they are not even providing basic amenities. There needs to be a regulation regarding PG's and certain standards need to be set.
Its the same situation in Nagawara, Veeranna Palya in front of Manyata Tech Park. People have bought the flats in these areas thinking its a residential area. But now this has become a more commercial area disturbing the life of people who are staying in the Apartments with family. If 2 or 3 PGs are opened then a guy will come and open a tea stall for these PGs to smoke on roads making it difficult for the women and gals to travel in that road. These PGs wont provide the parking space and so the PGs park their vehicles outside occupying 50% of the road causing disrupt in the movement of the traffic. These PGs even make the roads garbage by throwing their waste on roads. There is no security for people who are living in apartment near by these PGs. There has to be some measures to be taken for these PG slums. People have paid lakhs and crores of rupees to buy a flat for their living with the family peacefully and these guys who only think of doing business and earn money wont stay in this area. They want peace so they disrupt other area make money and live peacefully in different area. I hope Govt will take a strict measure on these PG slums and make familys to live peacefully in their house or apartment.
Either start making corporate offices in tier 2,3 cities or promote work from home (where required and could be managed) ……..most of the cities in India have become overpopulated due to this very reason…..start generating more opportunities in non metro cities…..
How come 21 meter is a limit? So rule says if you have a house below 21 meter doesn't require fire safety? Noc should be mandatory to every type of shelter. Also that woman should stop ordering online, going to mall, house help which actually fuels such construction.
Elephant in the room, but the corrupt government in Karnataka (be it BJP or congress) will never address it. The financial part is a absolutely bonkers, these PG owners who are mostly from Andhra earn a ton of money leaching into the employed and the students. Here is my story. I stayed in a PG. It was a three-sharing room. The room was small and the bathroom was outside. The rent was 6k. One night, when the other roommates traveled to their hometowns, I woke up feeling something running on my bed. It was 3 am. I switched on the light and searched the room but could not find anything so I slipped back into sleep. Again at 5 am I felt something running on the bed. I shook my bed sheet and something fell out of it. I switched on the light and saw a goddamned mouse. Then I looked at my finger which was hurting and could see that it had bitten me while I was asleep! At that time I did not know mice cannot cause rabies and I was left terribly shaken. I ran out to the nearest hospital and got a tetanus shot and an anti-rabies shot. People should stop moving to bangalore. It is a goddamn hellhole whichever way you look at it. The locals, the unpredictable weather, the PGs, the rent, it is a hellhole.

Need t9 look at comprehensively as better living conditions to better planned and disaster resilient city plan and allow to do something that officers says means plan un plan in the name of planning.
If only the BDA would function properly. The way it stands, doing something illegal and then tying things up in courts for decades is cheaper than dealing with BDA. So, everyone takes that route. I have property in a layout where BDA gave and withdrew consent 3 times! Of course, each time coinciding with change in govt., if you know what I mean.

Now on a 2400 SQ ft plot, people are building 6-10 floor apartments with just one parking slot per home and a massive draw on water resources too.
Just imagine according to your assumption,,, rental will increase 20fold for sure, have some common sense before making comments
@@skr1808 of course rental will increase by a huge amount. but my point was so will the consumption of resources which puts inordinate pressure on a relatively smaller land area. common sense is not only about rental increases. it is also about being aware of the pressure on resources - consider that water is scarce already in Bangalore.
@@shankarbalan3813 resources will be affected in one or the other area...
So resources can be transported that ain't a big issue ..
Learn from Tokyo Shanghai...are they fools ?
Never ending Greed of real estate mafia putting the livelihood in great risk. Shameless irresponsible authorities giving permissions to illegal layouts.
BBMP & BDA are the 2 organizations who are involved in almost all illegal construction activities in Bangalore
In 2009 when i came to bangalore, PGs were old houses converted into PG.
So there were fewer ppl per building. But now looks like PG are like hostels. 1000 ppl in piece of land in which barely 40-50 flats can be made .
Rooms are barely enough to contain a bed and a wardrobe.
My first visit to Bangaluru was 2001... we had it so much better... much more space
These PG slums charge 20k to 22k for a room. Quite a costly slum!!
Not just PGs.. its same with other residential layouts
India lacks rules and regulations framework because of which politicians just take cuts / Chanda and do whatever idiotic they can afford to do.
they don't lack. they are complacent with politicians.
Thanks for bringing it up...but its not limited to Whitefield only, currently I am staying in Kadubeesanahalli near to Cessna Tech Park & its same problem here as well😢
Whole of B'lore is doomed after COVID!!
Btm layout is the worst, run entirely by andhra guys, no stantard, no safety and their association with local goons.
Agreed , not just BTM. This slum culture starts from BTM till Whitefield😢
Failure of the government. And builders have the gall to advertise every crap apartment as 'Ultra Luxury'. I hope no poor soul gets trapped by these builders and buys an apartment for 2-3Cr
All in Reddys hands.....
Bangalore is spoilt by them
Very good report and much needed.
Same is the case in BTM Layout
BTM layout is somewhat ok compared to the IT slum spread across Bellandur - Sarjapur - Whitefield - Marathahalli Road areas
The powerful Real Estate mafia is the main culprit of this issue.
It is the goverment,Bescom,BBMP taking money and selling unauthorized plans, approvals for money , spoiling the city is starting from them.
and the corrupt politicians who allow them.
There is no park in kadubeesanahalli. All the buildings are like this. Where did the park space go? That means government officials were bribed by builders to convert even park space into a building?
Kadubeeshanhalli 😂
@@WhiteTuskerthese type of name is here in bangalore .
I don't understand what is going on in this city
Daily getting horrible news .
1. WFH
2. Allowing Employees to login from tge office in near city from the hometown.
These things can stop such slums
Most of the IT companies are having their officea at locations such as Hyderabad, Bengalur, Chennai but employees are coming from hyderabad working in other cities and the same happening with all employees in other cities.
Why can not they allow to login in their near city though they have office there?
control over employee.
Please make next episode as to why banglore public run behind luxury cars to click selfies unlike anywhere in the world .
0:31 This is precisely where two of my friends reside, and I once lived here with them for two months. Although I no longer live here, I must say this housing area is extremely densely populated and congested.
The houses are tightly packed, with minimal airflow and sunlight. Some rooms receive no natural light at all. The buildings are astonishingly close, almost touching each other.
Despite the proximity issues, the buildings are well-equipped with amenities like battery backup, water supply, lifts, and full furnishings, including gas facilities, geysers, sofas, TVs, and fridges.
However, safety remains a significant concern, as highlighted in this video.
Nothing lasts forever. As a born Bengalurian, the pathetic state of our beloved city is very sad to see.
Kempegowdre, please RIP, only time can heal this city.😔
BTM layout, jp nagar, madiwala, surrounding areas once was a proper residential area with less traffic and well planned internal/sub-division roads all are violating the rules same like whitefield near tavarekere worst traffic with 3 floors building coming up with 6-7 floors in 1200sqft
Eye opener Journalism ❤.
Government intentionally ignoring these things due to vested interest.
Most layouts in Mahadevpura are in the same state
Why there is no onsite inspection of each building before and after construction! on regular basis!
@@kumkum8190 if it's gone 90% of new building will be illegal
In Bangalore building rules are flaunted very easily and nobody stops them. They are total real estate mafia.
The people who built their houses according to rules are now looking like fools.
When the lawmakers itself don't follow rules, why do you bother to follow?
Corrupt politicians, bureaucrats and builders all are hand in glove.
Many buildings behind Garden City College in KR Puram have 6 - 7 floors with no setbacks posing a thread to neighbors. Even BBMP officials are aware of this, they behave completely negligent.
Bbmp guys are bribed heavily for overlooking all irregularities..
Same at Manyatha Tech Park
Even in Yelahanka, the situation is the same.
Me watching this from one of these"Slums". 🤠
Entire Bangalore has already been sold to Reddy's and this was done by local Kannadigas I believe Reddy's are outsiders not from Karnataka .
Now rich reddy guys drive luxury cars and banglore locals run behind them and click pics, new mental tragedy of banglore .
These are all Telugu people who have captured maximum area in Bangalore. They are very greedy, will eat Sambar rice but will show their SUVs
@@prishashandilya7925stop the linguistic politics and get your acts together, there's no unity among you guys , everyone gathers for protests, get paid , free liquor and briyani and leaves while the local politician gets paid in crores. Get your act together , coastal karnataka is becoming little Bangladesh 😂😂
Oh look a Idiot North Indian creating divide among us South Indians. Go back to Gurgaon Ms. Joshi
Although Bangalore is now the capital of Karnataka, the historical capital was Mysore. Even before independence, the majority of Bangalore and Kolar residents were Telugu. Because of that, there are a lot of Reddys in this area. They were born in Bangalore, and that's not their fault. The Reddy family grew wealthy because the ring roads happened to go through their farmland. So that's the story. Find out who Karnataka's first chief minister was by doing some research. It was a Reddy. What gives them away as being outsiders?
Banglore is done
This is an issue to property owners because they don't get tenants 😂😂 since most single working professionals and students prefer low cost PG accommodation.
Thank you 🙏🙏🙏 for covering
I have lived in all the areas of Whitefield shown in this video. I could locate all the PGs I have stayed in, in the map shown when I read the area name. I don't live in Bangalore anymore, but I'll just share this video to those PG WhatsApp groups to make my fiends scared. 😂
bro i am planning to move bangalore for some it related course, I am confused between pune and Bangalore , what should I choose
PG has lost of meanings in Bangalore. It's supposed to be Paying guests in someone's own home.
Totally agree coz I've been there prasanth extension, white rose layout, nallurahalli and spice garden layout near marathalli flyover feels like slum with mud road, garbage all over road sides and fully crowded
Only two words 'More Urbanization ' is dangerous
Unregulated building = Low rent and High profits (some money for bribes)
Regulated building = Higher rent and Lower Margins (Lots of money to agencies)
Unfortunately, the need for affordable building, greed and possibly corrupt/incompetent govt agencies has contributed to this boom. This is also only one city in the entire country.
all in my life i worked benguluru only in 2012, that time it was heaven, less crowd and weather. later i shifted to chennai completely. present day benguluru is so packed.
if they are not approved by BDA, why there is water, electricity given, and taxes taken.
This is the situation everywhere. Once i was shown a room in a pg whose entrance was through a bathroom. Most pgs dont have ventilation, sun light. Its not a living condition for anyone. I hope there are some regulations around it
Why do people still keep bringing these guys to power 😢😢
It's true and it isn't a pleasant sight. This problem has more faces than just the tightly packed buildings. People living there are also deprived of basic space and ventilation needs.
First of these mentioned areas doesn't even come under BBMP limits, they fall under Panchayat limit which don't need any plan approval or bye-laws to be followed. BBMP and BDA has failed to keep up rapid expansion of city due to their internal ego of "A" Katha. BBMP can only control that falls under their belt.
Bro I'm new to this
Can u explain what is A katha and B katha
as long the money is flowing, all is well...
WFH is the enemy of greedy people who want to keep their profits at the expense of a healthy society.
20 years ago, PGs served their purpose. Now we see young people as slaves and not humans
An eye opener of a documentary. Shame on those who sanction such layouts!
Can anyone recommend good PGs near Whitefield?
Tax payers get nothing in return, the reality is
Fire safety regulations should be checked for all buildings - new and old
The PG where I stayed had 5 floors with an elevator, but not one fire extinguisher anywhere..
Please, make the rent better so that people can check for other options too
Government should take steps to shift companies to other areas, states.
True
It is supply an demand. When the demand isn't at a high enough standard, how will supply be?
Either start making corporate offices in tier 2,3 cities or promote work from home (where required and could be managed) ……..most of the cities in India have become overpopulated due to this very reason…..start generating more opportunities in non metro cities…..
How come 21 meter is a limit? So rule says if you have a house below 21 meter doesn't require fire safety? Noc should be mandatory to every type of shelter. Also that woman should stop ordering online, going to mall, house help which actually fuels such construction.
It would take a big fire incident for the authorities to wake up. I have seen lot of these PGs. They dont even have a proper fire exit.
Same in gowlidodi in hyderabad.
Same situation in so called Hitech city ,Madhabpur, Hyderabad
Most of the building uses concentrate blocks.
This deserves a million views
Exactly need regulations for PGs. Strictly need to monitor room space, food hygiene, cleanliness, electrical safety.
How do we anonumously report such illegal buildings being built ?
There's a new tech park in chinnapannahalli, where the road is barely wide enough for 1 vehicle. How did they give permission? Isn't it like that they have to widen the road first to allow such a big construction???!!!
In brilliant school road aecs layout there are 22 pgs each 8 floors some are 1.2.bhk apartments on rent minting crores of rs. One fire will endanger at least ,1000 people
It's so bad all over Bangalore it is common to see 3-6 persons living in a room or hall divided into 20 small compartments with 6 foot plywood partitions. It's all Govt- Builder mafia.... Bangalore doesn't have Aawas yogna like other cities.... they have made very basic housing unaffordable and are minting money
I lived in PGS that were so close that they wanted to orotect theft etc or even jumping into girls pgs beside a boys pg so literally balocnies were closed , common area closed with grills so nobody jumps to the other building ..imagine a fire and ya the stairway is harly 2-3 feet wide
IT proffessional should be recalled as IT Labours.
BBMP commissioner states saying " must have to do something and close it". This is alarming. Totally unknown to the facts. Fire safety n better open spaces is required. Need t9 look at comprehensively as better living conditions to better planned and disaster resilient city plan
and allow to do something that officers says means plan un plan in the name of planning.
Most five floor buildings which are build for pgs are built on old buildings which have no foundation to with hold this many floors. No parking spaces even for two wheelers. Un monitored expansion of the city will prove dangerous for it
Sad and Concerning
Check out the Whitefield area...
