I’m a retired Police Officer... I was a Swat Team member and a Police Sniper.... I just want to say that I love your videos! Old school! Your videos make up my late night enjoyment. Keep them coming....
I truly appreciate the time and effort you put into these informative 22LR videos. I look forward to each and every one. I sorted some RWS semi auto 22 LR ammo awhile back but have yet to hit the range due to the weather. With a current temperature of -4°F and a wind-chill of -22°F, I don’t think I’ll be spending a day at the range any time soon.
23:00 Congratulations on those three excellent back-to-back-to-back groups, very glad for you! 👍 That rifle qualifies for the Outlaw division on an ABRA match!
Whew...!.... confirmation that I am not the only individual lurking in a dimly lit room, late at night hovering over the table measuring cartridge rim thickness, weighing cartridges on the grain scale and grouping lots by weight and rim thickness....I have stumbled on to your channel and have subscribed. Thank you for your time and efforts.
There is something special about the feal of a good rifle, cheek on a solid weld spot, breath at the right point of exhale, the break of a crisp trigger, the blur of the sights at recoil and knowing the round is on target before your vision clears to confirm that you already know. Well done!....
I guess I am one of the guys that think sorting is the way to I did notice one thing that you did differently on the two guns. I know two different style of stocks. One gun you shot with your thumb over the stock the other with your thumb on the thumb rest on the right side of the stock. Trying as hard as you can a bit of pressure more or less can make a difference.
This channel has me excited about 22lr again. My absolute favorite channel for 22lr. As always, I look forward to the next video. Thank you for doing these.
I weight sort my 22 ammo. It doesn't matter for my handguns, I do it for my rifles. I don't compete, I just do it for fun. Thanks for your 22 vids. Love them!
It's kind of funny you know, I used to get the same moa with the Australian made winchester 40gn power points in my early factory stock 1990s CZ 452 2E LUX custom order no sight barrel with front forend screw removed. I have only just now ran out of 500 round bricks of the Aussie made stuff and have to try and find a hollow point that matches match ammo accuracy now that my bread and butter ammo is no longer made to the tolerances they once were.😪 Good to see the newer CZ/brno heritage still goes alright, love your channel and keep on at from Australia! 👍
Fantastic groups. I took particular notice of your trigger follow through which is exceptional but just the odd one was a smidge off and could account for variation. Love you enthusiasm and you vids .
Love it! I sort my pellets and have found at least in my tests no matter the brand or grade there are small variances. So you can improve consistency through sorting. The fact that at times you can hear a different report from the rifle even with match grade ammo would indicate to me there is a difference in powder charge primer or spacing. In the end I think we all just want to do the best we can with what we have. Thank you for another enjoyable video.
First group, second to last shot of the day at the range group, you upset the rifle when cycling the bolt. That was a lot to keep track of lol. Also you inspired me to buy a Christensen and subscribe to your wonderful channel. Take care
DATR, outstanding little bug hole..... it can be done !! I don't buy much high-end 22 ammo, so I sort all my bulk 22 ammo, and yes you'll be very surprised at the weight & rim variance, does it make a difference ??, well it's my OCD from shooting centerfire target guns.............. Bug holes are possible even with bulk ammo , like the one you shot today, one out of a dozen.......it always puts a smile on your face !!! PS, you also got me thinking of buying a 44............ouch !!
If you have hard topped shooting tables, you should consider rubber mat under your ransom rest to keep it from shifting. I am just as wound up on 22LR as you talk about being, currently own more than 15 higher end 22's, and enjoy them all to no end, I keep my Scopes on the lower power, nothing more than 10, usually at 8, but no matter-its a pure joy, and I sort by rim thickness, and have gotten some stellar groups, and some dismal ones to boot. Semper Fi from an old Sailor
Try this out. Get a pack of any ammo you want, then load up the magazine and shoot 5 shot groups from the magazine. Then, CAREFULLY SINGLE SHOT load your rifle and shoot 5 shot groups. Depending on how much you handle ammo, and how gentle the action is on loading the ammunition from a magazine, can and does affect accuracy.
Man, I feel the pain! I've been traveling in that rabbit hole for the last 4 or 5 years. I have converted my 10/22 so may times I've lost count. On my 3rd barrel,(Green Mountain 24" stainless steel bull barrel). 3rd stock,(Boyd's thumb hole walnut) and the final piece is an Crimson Trace, 6 x 24 x 56 ffp with 34mm main tube. Picked up some Eley Team and that completed the equation! Did five, 5 shot groups with the worst group @ 0.291" and the best @ 0.170". All five groups had every shot touching and not 1 flyer. I'll be framing that target because I will probably never repeat it! The rabbit hole is wide and deep! Think the 10/22 is right there and now it's time to work on the CZ457 and see what I can do with it. This one is completely stock,(but for a YoDave trigger spring) that has the trigger pull at 1.25 lbs. Sweet trigger. Keep these 22lr videos coming! Alway fun to watch someone else driving themselves COO-COO looking for the prize! 🤪
I'm one of those guys that goes down that rabbit hole people think I'm crazy I'll spend 8 hours at a shooting range trying to get that satisfaction trying to get that golden group that's perfect and I'm never satisfy 😫😭😫😭😫 Now I'm shopping for a new 22 rifle I wanted to be a magnum and I wanted to be around a $1000 mark.. My old 22 rifle is the CZ455 trainer .. With the cheap Leopold on it..
I really love Aguila Interceptor 22 lr My Marlin 22 lr as well as my father's groups these into dime sized groups all day every day. Also... There's not many brands it doesn't like. My brother's is the same... so our family loves the great accuracy we all have with our Marlins :)
I was observing your position at each shot takin a reference from the scope cover on the background and have noticed that you might be caring your cant from shit to shot coincident with your bigger groups. You may want to check it in video an May y considering using a cant leveling device. This has helped me a lot in my groups.
I’ve just started following you and I enjoy your videos very much. This video is from 3 years ago. I’ve seen some more recent ones as well. I have noticed something. I can tell each and every time what your result is going to be just by watching your trigger finger. If your finger looks like it didn’t do anything, you’re pretty much on bullseye. If there is even the slightest indication that you pulled the trigger, you’re all over the place.
I personally only weight sort and then only to cull rounds that are way out of the norm. My preferred ammo is Eley Target as a daily shooter and I usually cull two rounds per box. 23 out of the last brick. If i shoot a group with the culled ammo, it will be much larger than the good ammo.
Good video! Great shooting! While watching I was thinking that sorted for weight only might be a good test prior to totally unsorted. I know the time investment, not to mention monetary investment, is high. I appreciate your work. Thanks.
You my friend are killing me! I had an older 10/22................soooooo l ordered a high tension carbon fiber Volquartsen barrel, complete trigger and hammer kit, base and rings for a 30mm Barska 5x20x50 Trace moa IR scope. I put it all together with for my son,(and me) to shoot and play with. It seems like it has the potential of being a pretty good shooter. The scope is very suprising as far as clarity and tracking.Rabbit Hole?! I just ordered an Athlon Ares BTR Gen2 HD 4.5 X 27 X 50 with APLR4 FFP MOA reticle. I really probably need to know where you live because.....when my wife finds out, there's a very good chance this poor boy will be divorced or at the least in the dog house outside in the cold for a very, very long time!
🤣 I bet that setup of yours will shoot. Might as well order some warm winter clothing to go with that setup it is good for at least 2 days in the dog house might as well be prepared. 🤣
Sorry if I missed something here, but, what is that .37 and .38 'Rim Thickness' that you are measuring? I don't understand. 22 LR rim thickness is usually .041" +/_ .001". What am I missing here?
I used to think it was me pulling the shots until I got a gun and ammo lot that clicked and realized it's not as much me as the gun/ammo one of the 2 I bet you would shoot one hole all day if gun's/ammo was better than what it is there's something that makes it almost impossible to consistently shoot one hole that very rarely comes together I don't know if it's the projectile the powder the primer maybe it's the crown but there's one thing that really makes the difference
@Dayattherange The positives of sorting are on the targets that you just shot. you can see that the .37's grouped below the horizontal line and , the .38's grouped above that line... now, if you overlay the .37 groups and the .38's you will see the groups you would have if you didnt sort... each croup would have covered the target from top to bottom.
Great video and the little sorting I’ve done was with bulk ammo. The weights ranged between 49-51grs in the Federal bulk 40gr 550 box, I haven’t done rim thickness yet but I will. The reason I think it makes a difference is I’ve been shooting 50 foot slow fire pistol for years with a 22 and I’ll end up with 5 tens, 4 nines and a four. Sometimes you can hear the difference in the report. So I have more time than money so weighing and measuring the rim thickness is maybe part of my new hobby. I have a question, does your Christensen Arms rifle have just one screw to connect your stock to the frame? If so I have a suggestion that might make it group better. Thanks for all your time and energy, great video.
That’s great to know, I just ordered the Bergara B14r which should be very similar to your Christensen Arms. I played with 10/22s of all sorts and finally figured out that the one screw connection didn’t give you the best accuracy and a free floated barrel didn’t help. I bought the new Ruger Custom Shop 10/22 and so far it’s shooting with bolt action accuracy. Thanks for the reply and as soon as the weather warms up I’ll come to your website and shoot some with you.
Man, I´m cruising around a scope for 22lr at a 100. I too would love, if you would make a video about that. Actually I´ve broke it down to two products (Meopta Optika5 vs Brownell´s MPO), but am now not sure about the magnification. I want the best for 100yds, but would like it too, to be as versatile as possible (as a 2nd step criteria). So, will a 18ish magnification be enough, or will a 25ish way better and a must?
I wish I could borrow one or even rent one from my local shop but they can't get them. I would like to try before buying though I have had great luck with Howa in 223 shot like a laser I have read of serious issues with the 22LR 1100.
Something you might consider is placing a spirit level on your rifles. On a round bottom stock you can can’t the rifle a small bit and it will affect you groups. A Level ensures that the gun is straight every shot. Also don’t believe you are using any wind flags. These two things I would say are more important than anything you can do with ammo. The group that you spoiled at the end you was upset about may have not happened if you had the aforementioned.
Something that’s really helped my shooting is pretending that the trigger is made of glass, and trying to break it In a way that won’t cut my finger. Seems odd. But it made a giant difference in my shooting. 👍🏼
Aim small miss small! Put a black dot on the orange target, increase magnification a little & you will see improvement . Right now you are aiming at a quarter inch square POI. Great shooting though!
It comes with a triggertech 2.5 to 5 pounds, but I put in a flat trigger two stage 1 pound. That is the great thing about the Christensen it is Remington 700 compatible.
Sorting is pointless you can't tell if the slight difference is weight is coming from the bullet or the powder charge or even the thickness of the brass that's just my opinion
Sorting can help, but when you mention “some of us don’t have the means” there is something you’re forgetting. Sorting means you are essentially throwing away ammo, since you now have rounds that don’t meet your sorting criteria. This can dramatically change the price of the ammo. And you’ll likely get better results by buying the more expensive stuff anyway, and won’t have to discard any that didn’t pass the sorting test.
@@Dayattherange I've been shooting silhouette and benchrest for over 14 years now, and in that time I believe I've sorted over 50,000 rounds. And when I say sorting can help, I don't mean that it will help. Sometimes it doesn't make any noticeable difference at all and turns out to be a waste of time. Other times it makes stuff shoot a little bit better. But in my experience, a little bit better isn't a whole lot, and usually isn't shooting better than what it would do if I just bought the next better stuff in the ammo lineup. I've found that sorting by weight tends to make more difference than sorting by rim thickness. And sorting by length of base to ogive seems to make as much of a difference as sorting by weight, if not a little more. Most of what I've sorted is Eley Sport, which used to be called Eley Target Rifle, which is decent for silhouette, and CCI Standard, which is garbage for everything. We shoot a lot of rounds for silhouette, 200 rounds for score on match day and a lot more during practice, and that Eley Sport is what I shoot most for that game. For benchrest it pretty much has to be Eley Match or Eley Tenex. None of my guns prefer the Lapua stuff, but if they did then for silhouette it would probably be SK Rifle Match (SK is Lapua's cheaper brand) for silhouette and Lapua Xact or Midas+ for benchrest. I even bought Neil Waltz's die for forming rounds consistently, and it makes a difference too, but again mostly just about what might be covered by spending more for the better ammo in the first place. I never even use it anymore. I just spend the extra and get better results with the better ammo. In the end, sorting just kills time for sometimes a little gain.
Dayatherange..... i got a challenge for you. End a session with 5 rounds lefty. See how good you can shoot a 5 shot group left handed, just for the heck of it. See how awkward that feels.
Do yourself a huge favor and buy a $149 savage mk2 and some standard velocity cci bulk ammo and start shooting a ragged hole 5 shot group or better at 50yds all day long

I love the way you think because if you are happy that alone can`t but help your accuracy.

Those last to groups were "spectacular" that's what's called true "PRECISION ACCURACY"! Great shooting.

So good to see you back at the range. Love the videos
Great shooting I think that's the best group i've seen you shoot
I never thought about weight sorting. I have however sorted bulk ammo by length with surprising results.
Love it!

Nice vid, nice shooting. Thanks for doing the work...very interesting results. I was there for the RFC discussion...controversial subject!
Love your attitude, man!
I know that feeling well.
4 shots touching and then getting too excited about the last shot. 😆
I wish you didn't know that feeling LOL but that's why we do it right for the love of the chase and getting that perfect score.
Nice. I sorted a bunch of Eley Club ,Match and Practice 100...
Great shooting 👍 still loving the videos .
Love the 22lr! Keep shooting! Nice to see the passion.

Great video bro
I was observing your position at each shot takin a reference from the scope cover on the background and have noticed that you might be caring your cant from shit to shot coincident with your bigger groups. You may want to check it in video an May y considering using a cant leveling device. This has helped me a lot in my groups.

Wow thank you for imparting that wisdom. I will surely be on the lookout and try to do better. And thank you
Most shooters own Ruger`s 10-22 semi-auto rifle, I am one of them 25+ years ownership, but it collects dust. I have turned to a RAR bolt action rifle.
Compared to the other groupings, that one group you shot looks like someone else shot it (lol). That's one of the better groups I've seen...
It was you ! I Slowed the video and you pulled
Super video , thanks so very much :)

Wow nice shooting!!! You got me going outside in single digit weather to shoot been bing wacthin videos lol I got to shoot man !!!!
Just picked up a ranger 22 and it won’t even try to eject a shell. Looks like it will also be going back for some attention from Christensen.
Good video! Great shooting! While watching I was thinking that sorted for weight only might be a good test prior to totally unsorted. I know the time investment, not to mention monetary investment, is high. I appreciate your work. Thanks.

In those temperatures you should keep the ammo in a well insulated cooler warm from the house. It will make a big difference
12:56 “WHAT IN THE WORLD!?!” 😂
Going back and looking at it that even made me laugh 😁
Calm yourself down big fella! Love it! 😂
what is the length of that chassis, from the front of the trigger guard forward to its full length
Nice groups
Do you think it's time to trade in your Christensen arms for an anschutz ?
I'm waiting to see more of the Savage Anschutz 54 as I have seen Eli put 5 rounds in one hole with it but it does not come out that often.
Would a bolt shim of .001 make the .37 shoot as well as the .38?
I used to think it was me pulling the shots until I got a gun and ammo lot that clicked and realized it's not as much me as the gun/ammo one of the 2 I bet you would shoot one hole all day if gun's/ammo was better than what it is there's something that makes it almost impossible to consistently shoot one hole that very rarely comes together I don't know if it's the projectile the powder the primer maybe it's the crown but there's one thing that really makes the difference

#1, what bore sighting equipment do you use? #2, do you find that hand feeding your ammo vs loading a mag into your rifle, makes a different?
How about doing the same test using a Howa mod 1100 22 lr. Should be interesting.
I wish I could borrow one or even rent one from my local shop but they can't get them. I would like to try before buying though I have had great luck with Howa in 223 shot like a laser I have read of serious issues with the 22LR 1100.

I think I don't see your front rest moving like your other was. Do you see a difference in your shooting with this rest?
This rest is surely heavier, but with both rest I need some rubber feet or something for this bench which is polished concrete very slippery.
The rubber feet work great! I have them on mine!
Gun rest?
Who makes the rest your using. Would like to locate one.

I think the grouos should be 1/2” at 50yds MOA !
I agree with those guns and ammo should be 1/2 inch I noticed he in slightly canting the rifle from shot to shot.
See is you can borrow a Weihrauch h66 running boar. Love to see it go against the rest.
I think id just sell that ranger, all you need is that 455.
What pound trigger is on your Christian arm 22 lr ???
It comes with a triggertech 2.5 to 5 pounds, but I put in a flat trigger two stage 1 pound. That is the great thing about the Christensen it is Remington 700 compatible.
That will take a squirrel..
Good shooting I don't care what anybody says
Go ahead and send me all the rounds that don't fit in you sorting categories!
I don't cull ammo in that way. That ammo is then used to season and warm up the barrel or for plinking.
CARanger still not sorted!
I think it's them ruger mags
I believe the same BUT I have tried a few different ones. Wish I could have made it work.
@Dayattherange need someone to make a single stack with a block around the top to fit in the ruger style .
More 44 Magnum please!!! LoL
YOU SHOULD HAVE HAD THE GHRONOGRAPH WORKING .
Dayatherange..... i got a challenge for you. End a session with 5 rounds lefty. See how good you can shoot a 5 shot group left handed, just for the heck of it. See how awkward that feels.
Do yourself a huge favor and buy a $149 savage mk2 and some standard velocity cci bulk ammo and start shooting a ragged hole 5 shot group or better at 50yds all day long
😀😀😀😁😁😁😃😃😃😎😎😎
I meant canting
Christensen arm that is
Bella prova, mi dispiace non capire inglese.

that flyer was,nt your fault!
That sorting ie(measuring rim thickness & weighing nearly drove me wacko. Not doing that anymore not worth your sanity 😳👎🏼
