Anyone else deal with these issues, trying to figure out how to make a playblast *not* look like junk? Hopefully this helps your video files look amazing, just like you :)

This tutorial has helped me a lot. Rendering videos on my laptop is almost impossible. All my videos are playblast generated in Maya and the quality is just fine, I am happy with it. Thanks to this guy.

Just an advise..., you don't need to mess up with overscan settings and all that stuff in order to get a full screen playblast. You JUST have to deactivate the resolution gate mask, and playblast will be at full screen, that's all you have to do! :)
You never know when there's some gold information in a video you thought you didn't need lol. That near clip plane on how to solve those weird artifacts on your character is going to fix all my future playblasts. Keep up all the good work!
As silly as it sounds, I JUST learned about playblasts and my life was changed. In college, we rendered everything, which was a nightmare as some of my assignments took 30+ hours to render, but most of what we did in Maya was modeling and texturing. But I'd see playblasts on reels and didn't know what they were or how to make one, but figuring out all the settings was an adventure of trial and error. This is so helpful. Thank you.
@Sir Wade Neistadt Great video, keep up the good work! FYI - The work around for the QuickTime security issue is to install the codec only by turning all the other options off in the install dialog. From my understanding, the codec doesn’t have any security problems.
Your animation skills are amazing. Im a student at Full Sail University. Just got into the Animation class of my journey. Havent learn Rigs, Lighting/Shading, and things you learn after that. I'm about a year into my degree program.
Thanks for making this video! Like all your content, it was so helpful. Please keep making it. When I playblasted using 'from render settings' option, it still could give different resolution from the render settings. Even if it's written 1920x1080 in your playblast, you can make sure it by right clicking playblast file and go to properties, I don't know why it might give different size. So I end up turning on 'Render Offscreen' this whole time to solve this problem. I'd like to change my default player to quick time before playblasting, so it will autoplay after playblast without problem. And to add this up, quick time player can't read our last frame! So becareful if some of you were confused why last frame in quicktime are'nt same with what you see in viewport. This could be annoying when you are working with supervisor or director who don't understand this technical problem and keep asking for last frame (because I've been there before). I highly recommend RV player to get out from this problem.
Thanks for another great video. There is a great way go get a much bigger FPS counter on screen. Make a text element and in the attribute editor change it to fps mode or something similar I don't recall exactly what is was called not in Maya atm. And it will show a counter in the font style of you choosing and size etc.
Amazing timing! I was just looking at your old lighting video to make my playblast better before my turn in tomorrow. Thank you so much for all the tips! especially that frame counter option for when turning in animations for school. Hopefully I get a good thing going on with some lights in my scene hahaha.
I figured something out. Before this video was posted. I playblast it to images and then combine them using a image to gif converter. Sure it takes a while for the free online program to do some of them but the result is what you would see in maya
same! i use the method too but instead of online converters, i import the image sequence in blender and render it. its so effective, it certainly looks like a good quality render. also, i change the playback to play every frame mode otherwise it skips some frames in the image sequence.
Oh how I wish the teachers of my 3D programme would allow my submissions to be rendered in Playblast instead of Arnold... I'd actually start to enjoy doing Maya (I'm a Blender and Eevee person by heart).
I’ve never bothered with a full render with my animations. I feel it takes too long and time to make it compared to what you get time-wise out of a well-done and well-lit playblast. After all, it’s the animation that counts more than anything, and while lighting and textures and so on are important for a scene depending on what you’re showing, it doesn’t have to be like the cinematic quality we see in final renders to get the message across. If you have a decent GPU and turn on anti-aliasing with shadows and ambient occlusion, the quality I feel is good enough
Exactly.. I was struggling for it last week. Was not able to get good result and it was going to take so much time. Finally I discovered that even playblast could look really good if we keep the settings right with even basic arnold lights. ruclips.net/video/zK_W2tJhI4g/видео.html
I wish I could use QuickTime but I'm on Windows 10 and I was advised not to. Some vulnerabilities were discovered several months after Apple announced support end for QT on Windows. The situation has not changed, and it's likely that new vulnerabilities may have been discovered. If you run QT on a Windows PC, that PC becomes vulnerable and attackers may exploit those security vulnerabilities.
Wish we knew all of this back in college. I still wanna know one thing though. How do you get that light blue or greenish blue colour in the maya viewport? As per default settings on pressing Alt+B there are only four viewport colours, Light grey, Dark grey, Black and Gradient blue.
Hey sir wade, I really need your help, your one of the best animators I know. I have an interview after 5 days for a program that can get me to the best colleges in the world, I just have a bit of problems with animation. Can you please give me animation lessons, or help me.🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
i REALLY want to know where i can find this music. i know this video is for animation tips, and i'm an animator, but i also love music. this music is great! where can i find it???
Hello Sir, do you have a very good only frame counter script? or another a few stuff to add like animator, shot name camera stat etc? yet something free?
This was very helpful! But I have a problem: when I click on playblast the image plane (which I need to see in the final playblast) become blurred. How can I fix that? Thank you in advance if you can help me
thanks Wade. Also, is there a way to make the "current frame" numbers larger? Looking at a playblast on a laptop or tablet those numbers start getting really hard to see.
Hey....can anybody tell me how to put 'frame number' in the video... Like in this video Sir Wade shown in maya. I have to do it in another rendered, finished video.
hey, I had an animation question if you dont mind. I'm in school for general game art and I took an animation class a few months ago. I really enjoyed it and my instructor said I was pretty good at it for someone starting out. I want to practice more in my free time but I wanted to know are there some good maya rigs that are more beginner friendly that I can practice more on?
Stewart and Malcom rigs are generally widely used by students, as well as many, many Truong rigs that are free. If you want to pay for some quality rigs, I'd look up Gabriel Salas or Kiel Figgins rigs.
Right click on the timeline -> audio -> import audio ( wav if possible ). Now you can play and playblast it. There's also an offset option under audio attributes.
Hi sir, i just wanna ask a simple question... if i animate, model, texture, lighting also... should i get more percent of chance in industries to get job?
Well not really... I mean if you could be very skilled in all of thoses then yes, you could apply to all kinds of jobs... But in reality the industry usually asks for a very specific profile, and when you work on everything at the same time you often end up with some "ok" skills everywhere instead of being very good in one particular job. That being said, usually smaller companies hire people with multiple skills because they can't afford multiple people for each job. So in the end it depends where you aim at working, your capacity to learn and be good at what you do. Though I think you will always be better in a skill you 100% focus on rather than doing multiple things at once.
@@TrollmanLOL i was not talking about ok,ok skills im just sharing that, if a person has good knowledge in all elements of 3d and specialized in animation, so will he got more opportunities and will he also have a backup plan to start his own animation industry or be a generalist in any industry
...Playblast lighting is the biggest issue for me. If Autodesk could just make lights able to ignore certain objects (ex: lighting a prop/but not having that light affect the Character), it'd be near-perfect. We've had Autodesk attempt to make this change but they came back saying they couldn't. It was dead-easy to do in Softimage. Maya's bloated by comparison...
Eevee and Cycles are completely different btw what looks good in eevee doesn't in cycles and vice versa. they are 2 separate engines and cycles is the better one to use and getting the right settings in eevee can be quite tricky.

hi, why my playbast is too fast vs real animation
Blender eveee !
@Solid Snake Yes, for character animation Blender isn't that great.

You’ll need to adjust your rendering samples in the render settings menu- the default settings are pretty fuzzy looking

You can do that with link-linking in Maya's renders, but not playblast unfortunately. Blender will have it in 4.0 I think
