My brother, I commend you on your presentation and creativity using various accessible ingredients to enhance one of Jamaica's most staple food. You have now influenced me to try a few of these variants. I appreciate you sharing your culinary knowledge and skills and I also wish you much success! Most Jamaicans are so afraid of trying new dishes. They fear of venturing from traditional cooking. If the dish is not prepared the traditional way , they are quick to call out on it “ a nuh so it mek “ . But once a few people begin to cook a dish differently and it becomes known, then EVERYONE wants to cook it that way. But just few years ago, you were saying “ a nuh suh it fi cook”.
Thanks to people like you who are always willing to venture from the norm and sample or experiment with cooking. ❤❤❤

@ I said “most Jamaicans”. And yes, meaning a majority.
And no, I don’t live in all households but even after traveling to the States I meet so many Jamaicans from different Parishes and they refuse to even try any other national dishes.
I reside in an Urban area surrounded by cultures from all over the world and when I mention food from another country they quickly turn up their noses.
But guess what? Other cultures are willing to eat our food.
And it saddens me that not even African dishes they won’t try.
But I will continue to enjoy those Liberian dishes while our people miss out 🙃

Thanks for this food culture tutorial. I'm an Antiguan and we have quite a few of those dumplings. Our most popular are sweet potato and coconut to which we add a touch of sugar, our dumplings are mildly sweet. I can't leave out white dumplings, they are also a favorite, we also add sugar and a touch of baking powder to make them large and delightfully fluffy. Perfect with a rich dish like salt fish, mackerel, smoked herring or corned beef to take in the sauce. The spinners and the dumplings with cornmeal often end up in soups because they hold their texture.

Not from rural Ja? I've had corn, whole wheat, cassava and the usual cornmeal. Not sure I've ever had the pumpkin or the carrot dumplings. Callaloo ..... not to sure of this one.
