  • I got a news tip from a homeowner in Clarksville who has a sinkhole underneath her house. She told me having the right insurance saved her hundreds of thousands of dollars.

insurance should have just bought her out and walked away

Yea, the insurance company should have just had it condemned, and give her a payout. She needs to relocate.

I don't think insurance is the solution. If the ground is opening up under there, why would you want to keep a house on it? Why would an insurer keep paying for it?

Cheaper than buying out. Presumably, they're stalling and running out the clock. Then cancel her policy. She will be stuck with a dangerous money pit worth little to nothing. Guessing she doesn't have an attorney. She should hire one who is experienced with such matters and push for a buyout before it's too late.

$400k+ and still living like that? there's more to this story.

Yea if it was 400k, day one estimate, I would think the insurance company would buy the house. Demo house, sell land, and still come out better than 400k plus the added risk of more bills.

That isn't a sinkhole. At 400k it's a money pit. I can't believe the house and land were worth that.

Good for having the insurance. However, she's being taken for a ride. 2 years and still not fixed. Cracks in walls, open floors, etc with seemingly no end in sight. Insurance should buy her out. Probably be cheaper and would be safer. Wonder who's liable if the sinkhole reopens. Dangerous situation. Hopefully, prospective buyers are informed of the risk, since sinkholes frequently reoccur. Could be difficult to insure in the future.

It’s ridiculous health and home insurance has the ability to decide what will they cover, and if they don’t cover something, you’re expected to get a more expensive insurance plan, or worse, get an additional insurance plan. Home insurance companies need to be prevented from picking and choosing what they’ll cover, all in the name of bringing in as much as possible while paying out as little as possible.

Your ignorance and entitlement is the ridiculous part. You can insure ANYTHING. It is YOUR responsibility to determine what coverage YOU want. How fing hard is it to understand loser?

Here in Mississippi someone built a house up on stilts and it started sinking into the bayou. It was the foundation contractors fault on that one.

Surprised the city/county hasn’t condemned this home, NOT safe…
Ask the people of Blackhawk South Dakota how this works! Caverns beneath the homes…

Some places have little regulation. People say that's what they want until something bad happens. She's been lucky so far, but one misstep could lead to serious injury or worse. Or if more sinkholes occur. Cracks in the walls are a warning to get out. She needs to hire an attorney to advocate on her behalf, since the insurance company is stalling. They should buy her out.

This explains the insurance scam………..400,000$ in repairs….she paid 4,000$. At what point do you stop and move the house…feeble🇺🇸😏

Does she live in a pricey neighborhood? It makes no sense to have spent $400k on foundation repair and reinforcement on what looks like a modest house.

      Insurance is gambling.

    • @Thomas63r2
      @Thomas63r2 2 месяца назад +1

@@PonkyKong No doubt both parties are gambling, with the odds on the side of the insurance company. I have an aunt in California and she has earthquake insurance. The odds are low that she will ever have any earthquake damage, but where she live there have been sizeable earthquakes. She is retired and much like this woman with a sinkhole under her house she would never be able to replace her house if something major happened.
