I've held a female bald eagle at the wild bird rescue I volunteer for. She was so STRONG! My arms were sore for 2 days after. They are beautiful creatures. I love this group of people for giving this eagle a second chance at life! ❤️
My father was a veterinarian in Sparks, Nevada, and the designated vet for the Nevada Fish and Wildlife. He took in a Golden Eagle whose wing was broken, pinned it, and isolated the wings so the break could heal. (I was in school and didn't get to witness the surgery.) The eagle was placed in a cage and was fed by fish delivered by a warden of the Nevada Fish and Wildlife. I do not remember the length of time we had the Golden Eagle but I remember my father opening the cage wearing thick leather welding gloves to feed the eagle. The eagle would rock back on her back and present her talons in a very threatening way. I wasn't there when the game warden came for the eagle, but we heard that the eagle was released and had been seen many days afterwards. Very majestic raptors. I was grateful that my father's surgery was successful. We received a wide variety of birds of pray and mammals from the Nevada Fish and Wildlife game wardens. It was very cool and rewarding.
We need more people to become involved and not expect anything because of it instead of pulling out their phone with the hope of becoming piss ant famous.

This act is commendable on so many levels. First that they gave a damn and went out of their way to help. Then the calm. quiet respect this hero showed to this eagle. Humans are so loud and excitable. Too many raise their voice and yell or laugh without even realizing that only adds extra stress around wildlife. It takes a special person to suppress that urge and give the animal the quiet needed to relax. It's really wonderful to see and this guy is a very caring, special human. So much respect!👍🏼👍🏼

Birds are so intelligent that she probably realized finally that it was going to be OK, and relaxed, and looking into her eyes that must have been an incredible experience. 1 time I rescued a seagull, unfortunately she didn't survive the night, but I kept her warm, safe and dry, away from predators, in a basket on top of blankets and a warming brick, in my house. And when I started to pet her she looked into my eyes as if to say wow I didn't realize that people were like this, I wish I could tell all my other bird friends and family. It was an amazing experience, and she passed in peace not fear. I love birds, thank you for saving this beautiful eagle! She will remember. By the way I called animal rescue and vets and no one would see her because she was considered a wild animal.
@infoslinger Wow, that is some crazy stuff. I can't imagine how they would know but there are many things I will never understand no matter how hard a think on it.
@infoslinger you hear a lot of this type of talk over the years, like the mother will reject its young because of the scent of a human. Another, a Cockatoo speaks and the crackle reject it, or even kill it. This is hearsay, old wives tales. I really doubt your statement is anywhere near true, but RUclips is a great place to perpetuate myths.
Yeah, I found 3 baby owls from a fallen tree. The mother had taken off so I put them, they were in their nest, on top of my van. It too 3 or 4 days b4 I could get wildlife service to come get them. I just dropped bugs, worms in their nest....some ground round pieces. I found out they hissed, much like the sound of a mad cat. They looked like grayish wads of fluffy cotton....way too cute ❤.
You know, I've always thought the American obsession with bald eagles was kind of silly but I have to admit, they are beautiful creatures. I can see why they get so much respect.
Not just an icon to modern Americans, but also revered for centuries/millennia by native Americans in at least the North American area (i.e. Canada-US-Mexico). This also includes golden eagles & harpy eagles, etc.
Both the bird and the rescue were/are magnificent. But the fact that the bird has been turned by humans into a symbol of something else does not make its rescue more important than the rescue of some other bird or nonhuman animal. All such rescues are wonderful.
I've personally nursed a lot of injured wild birds in the past 50 years as well as a number of animals, but in truth there is an unpredictable fatality rate, and it hurts a lot on those occasions when efforts fail. As for the successes, releasing them back into the wild has brought tears to my eyes. It's wonderful.
@@marknestbox well keep up the hard work if you are still helping out birdies, if not thank you for what you’ve done I feel blessed having hawks and a couple eagles around where we live, we have a big pond out back Watching them dive bomb for fish, sometimes they splash down just for a quick bath, and they coexist quite nicely (even the different colored hawk groups)….I’m just amazed at the world we live on like I was 5 years old again
In Hershey, PA my wife and I use to rescue injured Hawks, Falcons, and Kestrels. When a injured bird was found the people called us and we would do a basic health check and then we would wrap the bird in a light blanket. We left the head and feet unwrapped so the bird knew we were nor going to hurt it. My wife would carry the bird on her lap which was covered by a small towel. A rapture bird rehab was nearby so it was easier to take the bird in the car which was a Dodge Neon 2 door. We made about 13 or 14 runs over the 6 years we lived there. The people that gave us the biggest hassle were the local police. They would worry the bird would break loose and it would cause me to get into a an accident. We were at the release for several of the ones we rescued. We were never trained to do this, but I guess we did a good job since all the birds we brought to the rehab were able to be released.
People like this really warm my heart. Just seeing them getting out of their way to save an animal instead of just ignoring them and carrying on with their day is so sweet.
As a Native American of Cherokee Indian, this warms my heart to see an American Bald Eagle rescued from serious peril of death. Thank you for giving her another chance at a long life.

When I lived in the mountains of Oregon I was once being followed by a beautiful Bald Eagle. He flew over my car and proceeded to fly just in front of me for several miles, following every curve of the road. A Native American told me that it meant I would have good luck. Here's wishing good luck for the ones that rescued this majestic bird.
She was understandably terrified, but slowing realizing she was not drowning, these giants were not trying to eat her….just restrain her, she probably just gave in to her exhaustion and decided to rest. Decided to give the guys jacket a warning bite to let him know not to try anything, and then just rest.
Just like stray dog rescues. They are terrified at first. Then they realize you only want to help, not hurt them…..they usually always calm right down. This creature is very intelligent. What an amazing experience
Pure instinct. Settled down, because Darwinian evolution did not program her for this "human holding me" situation - nothing stimulated any of "fight, flight, eat or hump". The biting was "fight", would have gone postal if it had shown promise. That guy is lucky to have all his eyes and fingers.
Yes! They must reason - maybe instinctively - that if a test bite doesn't get an aggressive reaction, then they are in safe hands. Literally. Fascinating insight into fauna behaviour 👍🤩.
As I was watching her in your lap wrapped up calm, there was one moment where she actually turned her head and looked up at you. The 2 of you locked eyes and it was so beautiful. I think it was that second she realized you weren't going to hurt her. It had to be a moment you will NEVER forget. Because you captured it on film, I was a part of it too. At the end, she flew out if that box and I saw how much she is a force to be reckoned with. A magnificent, strong being that trusted you to help her. Just beautiful !! 🤭.
I used to feel that way too. Many years ago when I was visiting someone in Maine,I had gone for a walk on a trail and I happened to notice some crows were harassing a Bald Eagle that was sitting in a tree. The bird didn't move other than to kind of duck it's head. I was beyond happy that my dream to see one in person had finally come true. 😁🦅
They're amazing birds to actually get to see in the wild. There are a few in the area I live, and it never gets old when you get to see and watch them.

@@robertcorbett9455 clearly my comment went above the heads of some of you people. humans seem to be consistently incompetent at reading animals, because they just project their own emotions onto the animal. Trying to equate a wild animal simply looking in your direction as a "sign of trust" is completely delusional. First of all, why would it "look" for comfort? It's a separate spieces with completely different instincts, social dynamics and body language than a human. Just the very concept of meeting eye contact will have completely different meanings in other parts of the animal kingdom. And why would a non-domesticated animal even find the presence of a human comforting? It doesn't know humans, and has no clue that it's current entrapment is any better than being in the river. The fact that the person above me is arguing that it was looking for a "cue" to see if the other person could be trusted is just an example of how much you people live in a fantasy world. Because not only would that make the assumption this eagle practically got the animal equivalent of Stockholm Syndrome within a few minutes of being captured, now it can also apperantly understand and use our human body language... how you people don't realize the insanity of your perception is beyond me. This sort of anthropomorphic mentality towards wild animals is the same thing that gave us incidents like Timothy Treadwell.

@@beerhorizons I live with, and parent two rescue cats, and one my daughter brought home 18 yrs ago. I dug Pip out of a wall when he was a kitten, and a friend of my wife's brought Pepper to us after she realized she was being physically abused. Now pip is my right-hand man and won't leave my side, and Pepper went from cringing/jerking at hands to flopping on her back and exposing her belly, or raising her head for pets. We nicknamed Binky (our 18 yr old), "Little Spoon" because he loves to lay at my stomach when I nap, or sleep. My cats aren't "like" family members because they ARE family members. I don't think that we humans understand how close we are to happiness and peace on earth. It really is just living like this moment to moment. Nothing else needed. Just live like this all of the time. Kindness, concern, empathy, compassion. It is good for us, it is good for others. It is so simple, and yet, somehow, and for some reason, we choose anything but.

Very beautiful story, only part was why would you be wearing a mask improperly, and outdoors in the wild to let an eagle go? Cmon how silly is this virtue signaling.
You did the right thing staying calm and taking care of the bird and drying it off and keeping it warm. It knew you were trying to help which is why it stayed calm because you were calm which helped it.
I saved a juvenile red tail hawk from being run over in the middle of the street. I pulled over and she looked exhausted, she let me pick her up and put her in my car. Her eyes were beautiful and I felt an instant connection to her. The experience of being close to her was beautiful and unexplainable. I took her to a bird rescue where they rehabilitated her and released her. I totally understand what this guy was talking about when he was close to this beautiful wild thing 😍
That unexplainable feeling you described, actually has an explanation. The Bible says what humanity's real purpose on Earth is, in Genesis 1:28. "Further, God blessed them, and God said to them: “Be fruitful and become many, fill the earth and subdue it, and have in subjection the fish of the sea and the flying creatures of the heavens and every living creature that is moving on the earth.” God put us in this world to look after it, and all the animals as well. When we do that, we are fulfilling our purpose, and we get that great feeling you described.

I am in my late 50’s and grew up in north Minnesota. While in the 5th grade, someone spotted an eagle in a tree by the school building. We all got to go out to see if we could spot the eagle. The newspaper sent over a photographer to snap a photo before it took off. It was a big deal, because they had become so rare. I now live in Minneapolis near the Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers. There are several nests within a couple of miles from my home. I see and hear eagles on a regular basis, I consider them neighbors. Just goes to show what harm we can do to the animals around us and how they can recover if we stop poisoning the environment. Visited the Eagle Center in Wabasha MN a few years ago. Got up close to Angle, one of their resident bald eagles. She snapped at my hand and I had , momentarily one of my fingers in her mouth. It did not hurt me, but we both were surprised by the experience. I canoe the Mississippi River and it is common to spot an eagle about every mile of the river. I hope I never have to help an eagle out of the water, though they normally can handle this situation, provided they are not injured.
I’m in tears just imagining the honor of just coming into contact with this magnificent, perfect bird (one almost hates to use “bird” in a description), the excitement, the humility when she finally begins to trust him….all of the emotions that must have been going through the heart of the rescuers. The thing about most animals, including humans and wild ones, is we remember the feelings we had as babies, so stroking them and snuggling them reminds them of being nurtured as babies, whether they know it or not. That includes birds, who are good parents. They even think the reason people like rollercoasters and even just being carried by machines or animals so much is because it reminds us of being carried as babies, and even playfully tossed up in the air like all dads tend to do. All comforting memories for most.
Good analogy for people, animals I doubt as a farm person I never witnessed that. Animal don't experience fun as we do, they want a calm experient unless they themselves are doing the jumping or playing, they are in control not you.
The most fascinating thing about helping a bird in distress is that they eventually show they trust you and some will even hesitate to let go, they will look back as if saying "But I wanna stay...."
Saving the life of an innocent creature is the most satisfying thing I have ever done. He was just a little bag of bones when he came into my life. He had gotten into my apt bldng and the landlord was headed down the stairs from the 3rd floor to throw him back out on the street. A kitten! I says "Hold on there! Give him to me and I'll figger out what to do with him." 4 years later I've still got him.
The same story happened to me with the difference that my dear pet was a rabbit. You also looked after your cat for a long time while I devoured the rabbit after five months (I roasted it as it had reached the right weight).

This act is commendable on so many levels. First that they gave a damn and went out of their way to help. Then the calm. quiet respect this hero showed to this eagle. Humans are so loud and excitable. Too many raise their voice and yell or laugh without even realizing that only adds extra stress around wildlife. Hello dear how are you doing
That's so bittersweet. My heart hurts.

Beautiful story Ginger Ray 💗

Hello How are you doing

Pure instinct. Settled down, because Darwinian evolution did not program her for this "human holding me" situation - nothing stimulated any of "fight, flight, eat or hump". The biting was "fight", would have gone postal if it had shown promise. That guy is lucky to have all his eyes and fingers.

humans seem to be consistently incompetent at reading animals, because they just project their own emotions onto the animal.

You are so lucky.

We need more people in this world like that who care.
Always one race of people. lol

Hello How are you doing
Thank you for saving this PRECIOUS Bird , i love when She look diretly to the person.Gave a great life 😂
The thing about most animals, including humans and wild ones, is we remember the feelings we had as babies, so stroking them and snuggling them reminds them of being nurtured as babies, whether they know it or not. That includes birds, who are good parents.
They even think the reason people like rollercoasters and even just being carried by machines or animals so much is because it reminds us of being carried as babies, and even playfully tossed up in the air like all dads tend to do. All comforting memories for most.
Wrong. It can cause mass stress to animals and kill them
@@ElvisLivesUpstairs you must be fun at parties
@@ElvisLivesUpstairs ratio
@@ElvisLivesUpstairs totally more stressful than drowning, definitely fatal stressor
This got tears 😢 😭
Nobody is innocent
Jesus how can someone just throw him out! Thanks for saving him
You are going to Heaven for sure!
The same story happened to me with the difference that my dear pet was a rabbit. You also looked after your cat for a long time while I devoured the rabbit after five months (I roasted it as it had reached the right weight).
That is one Beautiful Bird . Majestic !
