There is no filter in the tank of these. Pull the line from the tank to the pump, it should flow freely, if not, dump your tank and clean it out and blow the line backwards towards the tank. Then fill with fuel end recheck.

Empty the tanks and blow the fuel line backwards to be sure the line/tank is not clogged. If it's clear, make sure the pulse line on the pump is connected on both sides. If all that is good and you're still not getting fuel to the pump, most likely the pump is bad.

Just Saying~ just fix the jam tjing~ GriN
The diaphragm is either dry so it doesn't flex enough, or the diaphragm is cracked/not installed properly allowing fuel to bypass it and leak into the crankcase.

I have the Mikuni original fuel pump with B&S stamp on it. I also have a crack on the soft line going into the valve cover (vacuum line). My 24 hp B&S will not pick up any fuel from the tank, i mean zero fuel. Was hoping to just replace the soft line but read where you stated, "It's a pulse line very little pressure goes through it to operate the pump." Do you think I have a pump that has failed or something else. I've changed the fuel filter and checked all the fuel lines from inside the tank to the pump and to the carb. I can spray starter fluid into the hose that leads to the carb and it fires but nothing I try will get this thing to pump any fuel.
I 100% respect your review but I'm two seasons in with my "cheap fuel pump" and works at full throttle on my zero turn without any bogging and starving mowing every day of the week in Texas
The problem is that it's a crap shoot. Empty the tanks and blow the fuel line backwards to be sure the line/tank is not clogged. If it's clear, make sure the pulse line on the pump is connected on both sides. If all that is good and you're still not getting fuel to the pump, most likely the pump is bad.
what about the purging step? or priming step?
I held it below the tank until fuel came out to prime each pump.
I ordered this pump, because mine smokes when it trys to run. Is this from gas in the oil? Also, what do you think about going with an electrical pump? I would like to see a video on how this is done.
If gas gets in your oil and it over fills it will smoke. Electric pump is overkill, I would just get a new OEM fuel pump
@@TepcoCycleRepair Thanks for the reply. I purchased the one from your link, along with the vacuum hose, hopefully you will get some points for it. Do I need to change the oil now? I have a hard time trying to figure out how much oil to put in as it takes a while to settle on the stick. I don't want to overfill it.
@@jawnTem yes, definitely change the oil. Just look up how much oil that engine takes and fill it by quantity.
I bought a eBay fuel pump, for my Dodge Charger, after 2 weeks , rough start and over cranking.... bought the $200 fuel pump with lifetime warranty at auto store, pump now makes a “pumping sound” the eBay pump never did, and car works perfect again.... lesson learned
I took one of the cheap pumps apart and switched the big springs around and it pumps like a champ now, I dont have a you tube channel or I'd show u guys but u should try it it worked for me lol
Good to know, was it sealing? These were leaking as well.
Does the 4 screw unit have a rebuild kit?
Yes the Mikuni 4 screw can be rebuilt.
@@TepcoCycleRepair - Hi, thanks for the response. I was thinking of buying one but I cant find the/a kit. You have a part number by chance?
I'd recognize that packaging anywhere........... those come from the wonderful land of China😁 Mikuni is Japanese made😊
Awesome, man! Thanks so much. Definitely something that would have me chasing my tail in the future! #stayrad
Got to remember these pumps come dry...you must prime the pump before you can say it isn't or is putting out the correct amount , also they are very low pressure so vacuum doe play a part plus motor running more vacuum..,so engine needs to run on a primed pump~! Just Saying~ just fix the jam tjing~ GriN
Understood, that's why I compared them as close as possible in the yard science testing center.
What causes them to go bad what breaks in them?
The diaphragm is either dry so it doesn't flex enough, or the diaphragm is cracked/not installed properly allowing fuel to bypass it and leak into the crankcase.
@@TepcoCycleRepair Thanks
That was 3 years ago; since then chinese items improved A WHOLE LOT; i buy lots of stuff, i know; my guess is that those pumps now are very good, ordering one now.
@@josepeixoto3384 good luck.
I also got a cheap fuel pump and it's not pumping anything through 😢
The golden rule is to not skimp out on any component that has anything to do with fuel and air.
Would this work on a 25hp Kohler?
As long as it's a vacuum actuated pump. Some Kohler's have mechanical pumps.
Sometimes people return them because either they messed it up or they swap with their bad one.
Swap with their bad one..that's devious...
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍YOU THE BEST👍👍👍👍👍👍LOVE YOU
I have the Mikuni original fuel pump with B&S stamp on it.
The vacuum line is the pulse line and shouldn't have any cracks or air leaks. It is very little suction but the pump needs it all to work.
what is deferent between 3 ports vs 4 ports pump? i dont see many for sale with 4 ports. can i use 3 ports pump?
A 3 port is line in, line out, and a prime line, that's all you need for a single carb set up.
@@TepcoCycleRepair
i got 4 ports pump, i cant find it. king Canada suitcase generator 2000w
@@vaninec So they only need 3 I'm guessing if yours has a 4th hose it's a vent for a diaphragm.
@@TepcoCycleRepair
It is for a primer pump bulb
Most generators don't have it
@@vaninec Ah I see, I don't think you need that. If it has a choke, just run a 3 line.
I 100% respect your review but I'm two seasons in with my "cheap fuel pump" and works at full throttle on my zero turn without any bogging and starving mowing every day of the week in Texas
The problem is that it's a crap shoot. Like cheap carbs, sometimes they work fine and sometimes they don't work at all and cost you more money because you assume it works and spend money on other things that aren't needed. With a factory pump, although more expensive, it will work. Thank you for the comment.
I've learned one thing that is undoubtedly true. Chinese parts are absolute junk. The Briggs and Stratton ones are sourced from a company called Mikuni from Japan. Nice quality part.
Yep, Mikuni makes great stuff!
Have you tried a Carbhub brand? Most of their stuff seems ok...
No I haven't, I'll check them out. Thanks.
The pump has no power source?
No, it's a vacuum pump operated by case pressure, which pulses a diaphragm with valves to move fuel.
Cut video and started back up - could have switched?
I don't play those games, all straight up in my repair videos.
Ok that was not 10sec on the second one
Maybe 9.5 but doesn't really matter, that brand new one was defective dumping fuel into the valve cover.
@@TepcoCycleRepair I have a 2010 Kawasaki mule 610. I’m getting 90psi engine compression. Do know if that’s usable compression or is it to low or high??
@@bradselc3618 It has a compression release so you can't get an accurate compression reading. I would say getting 90 with the compression release is fine. A leak down test is what you need for accurate reading of engine health.
@@TepcoCycleRepair I had a no start issues, checked pulse pump, carb, compression, spark and everything checked out ok. Spark plug looked good but I went and got a new one and bammm! Purrs like a kitten now. So it was just spark plug issues. Thanks man I checked out some of your videos and it helped me out!
@@bradselc3618 I've been finding more spark plugs failures lately, weird. Glad you found it, good job!
Looks like your vacuum hose to valve cover is cracked too
@@nicktrofa2028 The outer had dry rot cracks but they were not all the way through.
So an electric fuel pump is less expensive than these anyway. I am questioning using this style.
These work fine if you use a good one, they will run for 10 plus years with no issues.
@@TepcoCycleRepair As I understand it, if the motor is old and has some blowby it messes up the pressure pulses and makes these pumps not work. That may be my situation. The electric one may allow me to get a few more seasons out of the engine.
Hope that's my problem, fuel in oil❤
Most likely yes!
Did you replace the crack rubber vaccum (?) hose?
I left it on for the tests so all pumps were testing under the same conditions. It's a pulse line very little pressure goes through it to operate the pump.
From the looks of that fuel, you aren't using ethanol free gas or you are a your station is selling you ethanol fuel and you don't know it. None ethanol fuel will be clearer that that was, the ethanol eats up parts in the pump and carburetor. Check into it, it will save you money.
I always use ethanol free. This was a customers, I always drain their fuel and fill it with ethanol free before it leaves my shop. I totally agree with you, fuel with ethanol is junk.
@@TepcoCycleRepair yep
Anyone else keep rewinding trying to figure out why ( 2”” 5 seconds) bursts is really ( 1”” 3 second and 1”” 5 second) bursts. lol. 😂
Lol, C'mon I was counting in my head..
Would have been nice, if you provided the Mikuni or Briggs and Stratton part numbers.
I put a link in the description. Thanks for watching!
Looks like 2 cycle fuel or bad gas!!
thank you test don"t guess
Uses the word "prime", doesn't let the pump prime.
So typical of many china made products, and can be hard to find quality anymore!!
👍
Your inlet and outlet are wrong.
Nah, not wrong. Been working just fine with the new pump.
He had bad gas. It won’t start with that old gas, fresh gas will be no problems.
Fresh 90 octane ethanol free fuel, the only thing I run.
The gas looks bad
90 octane ethanol free, 2 days old.
Go electric pump!
Too wordy. Most help vids are too wordy. It's not a screen text.
The pumps your putting on are dry
BOUGHT THAT SAME CHEAP FUEL PUMP. CANT GET IT TO PUMP FUEL. PIECE A SHIT. MY OLD MEDAL ONE WORKS BETTER. THANKS FOR INFO. TEXAS.
fuel pumps is good ya might wont to change the tube that goes in the vale cover first lmao
The cracks aren't all the way through the hoses, and I checked both pumps with the same hose and even put the new fully working pump on with the same hose..lmao..
I purchased one of these pieces of shit! It’s criminal. I couldn’t find the authentic brand or else I would have purchased it. The fuel would not even come out!!!! Than the plastic hunk of shit broke at the fuel line! Which was actually why I was replacing the original part !! Than the bf wouldn’t let me but the right part due to price.. so on another go of this hunk of shit his telling me it must be something else wrong with it! I’m saying NO it’s this hunk of shit part! Thank you because he believes me now and said sorry for making me but this Hunk of shit!
Yeah these are junk. The factory one should be a Mikuni.
Shit.😂
