    Yes these are all great new items I’m all for it! 👍🏼👍🏼 but for the ones who has the Mikuni fuel pump now they can blow on the gas tank to push the gas up to the carb to prime but who would want to keep doing that right so the easiest fix for this is installing a fuel transfer pump/manual pump on the fuel line between the pump and carb. You can buy the smallest one you can find so it’s easy to tuck away.
    Just another branch that people need to know if we’re about helping the community. More power to you guys Big Mike! 🍻

    When the pump is not activated, does it block the flow of fuel? What I’m wondering is if I can use this on a gravity, fed fuel tank. Those vacuum operated pet cocks have always been very unreliable for me. I would love to just put a manual petcock on, and then essentially use this pump to stop the flow. If you open the bike is off, and then let it flow when the bike is on.

    • @RollingWrench
      @RollingWrench  2 года назад +1

      What up brother! How you been? You still rockin that Perrywinkle ruckus? 👌such a dope bike! To answer your question, unfortunately no. Fuel will still gravity flow with the pump off. I know what you mean, the diaphragm in those vacuum fuel valves are not very reliable. I think it is best just to install a free flowing fitting onto the gas tank and inline, install a 3/16 manual shut off fuel valve.

    My question to you is can an electric fuel pump and pulser be used on a Chinese GY6 150cc scooter that operates on gravity feed? I have a concern with gravity feed bikes, since the gas tank sits higher than the carb. That works fine on flat ground. But, how about when going up a steep hill? Would the tank still be higher than the carb? What if the carb ends up being higher than the tank going up a steep hill? No gas, no power! Will the scooter starts rolling backwards?

    If your carb bowl is full, then it'll start with no issue. Then the vacuum pump will have plenty of time to catch up. Another issue you're facing is the pump need to be pumping, not pulling. Mount it low, by the tank, and this is again a non issue. Also, try using a battery that isn't half dead.

    • @RollingWrench
      @RollingWrench  2 года назад +4

      Ya that will help a tiny bit. Or you can just make out with your gas tank. That will get the gas up to the carb every time like clock work. But it still doesn’t fix the over under fueling issues you get with these super unreliable pumps. At least this has been my experience. I hate them soooo much, I spent hours and hours creating this :-). But each your own. If like the vacuum pump run with it. Jest keep that battery charged up :-)

    • @asadabdulqaabir4006
      @asadabdulqaabir4006 10 месяцев назад

      @@ARVintageCycles Almost exactly my though. There is no sense in having that pump sending gas constantly at the carburetor while the key switch is on, carburetor eventually will overflow. That's why those pumps are commanded by the ECU, in order to activate or deactivate it when needed. Maybe if the pump controller is triggered by the spark signal... but flow-rate must be precisely adjusted. Or maybe if you add a second layer of control in order to deactivate the pump when the float valve closes. Dunno, this solution needs a little more thinking.

    Whilst I think this is great upgrade it should be noted most of the problems associated with el cheapo vacuum pumps are because of the use of ethanol fuel. Whilst most, not all, GY6 style engines can tolerate E10 fuel it turns the diaphragm in the fuel pump into a wibbly wobbly jelly like curtain instead of a semi rigid membrane that can 'pop' back and forth and so pump properly. Mikuni and Keihin vacuum fuel pumps currently made in Japan have ethanol tolerant diaphragms however, because ethanol also jellifies the non-metallic components of the typical CV carburetor (float needle tip, main diaphragm, air cut valve diaphragm, bi-starter seat) they don't work properly either. I use E10 with no problems in my cars and my motorcycles which are fuel injected but not in my scooters.

      @@78dwk If you want to play around with these things you have to be careful not to set up a circuit that ends up filling a cylinder full of fuel and locking it up. It needs to be done with a lot of care. Thinking about it now I would go with a gravity fed system that is fed by the pump instead of a pump feeding the carb directly. This way if the pressure increases for some reason (dirt, etc..) you don´t inadvertently fill a cylinder up. I would have a pump fill a small volume tank (a soda can´s worth or less) that is found over the carb float so that the only pressure the carb would see is gravity fed which would be controlled by it´s height over the carb. You should be able to find a spot to put a soda can´s volume somewhere on the bike. You can place a return line at a high point in this secondary tank so that when the pump fills it to that point it simply spills further flow back to the main tank. The fuel pump would need a standard low pressure check valve to feed the secondary tank so that when the system/bike is off the secondary does not bleed down. This ensures that the next time you go and start the bike up the secondary tank will be ready to rock. Ideally you would wire in a level sensor that would turn the pump on and off after reaching a certain level in the secondary tank so that the fuel pump is not always going when it does not need to. You would not need a processor/controller for it as it can all be wired from the devices itself. Good luck.

  • @MrHanowski
    @MrHanowski Год назад

    These pulse pumps are actually very reliable and are widely used by experimental aircraft. It's not the pumps' fault that the fuel is low and needs to be pumped up to the carb. It's the pumps' job to keep the fuel flowing to the carb AFTER the engine starts, not get the fuel there to start with. To do that, use a primer bulb like outboard motors use. Also, the vacuum line should be as short as possible and made from stiff rubber hose, not long soft fuel line. If you use an electric pump, you must insure that the pump pressure doesn't exceed the rated pressure of the carburetor. Otherwise the pump will overdrive the carb float valve.

    Those fuel pumps are common on two stroke snowmobiles.
    The diaphragms in them harden over time, especially when exposed to ethanol in fuel. The check valves that should prevent fuel returning to the tank are part of the diaphragms and are sensitive to age and contamination.
    You can generally get a rebuild kit for a few bucks with the diaphragms and seals to rebuild the pump which should get it working like new. The fact it couldn't pump fuel more than an inch or two above the tank level shows that pump isn't working properly anymore.

    Learning altot about gy6 engines from you. Was wondering if this will work with a tao tao racer 50. I believe it has a vacuum pump not quite sure, but having same issues. Have recently done an cc upgrade using pro build, from 49 cc to 80cc.

    • @grazz7865
      @grazz7865 Год назад

      The petcock on the taotao is gravity fed. The tank is placed higher which forces the fuel to go down. The vacuum attachment only opens and closes the petcock-that’s all it does. If it actually acted as a pump, fuel would be sucked into the vacuum hose. I have 2 of the same bikes (taotao pony 50s). I also did the 80cc upgrade-huge difference! Question-are your valves chatty with the 80? I adjusted my valves several times and still. I know it’s the valves because I did a test-I adjusted the valves to zero (tappet touching the valve head) and the sound went away. Anyway, the petcock on mine was stuck open (better than stuck closed I guess). I changed it to a manual petcock. Works just fine.
