Girl, 3, to receive bravery award for 999 call that saved pregnant mum's life

- An adorable three-year-old girl is to be given a bravery award after she made a heart-warming 999 call to save her pregnant mum's life. Cute Emma spotted her pregnant mum Catherine unconscious at the bottom of the stairs in their home and instantly jumped into action. The brave girl called 999, gave her address, and explained her mum had fallen down the stairs with "a baby in her tummy". But unflappable Emma calmly explained her mum was not bleeding, had banged her head and even checked the door was unlocked for the crews.
I think the call handler is a star too. The way she kept switching between asking medical stuff and casual chat to keep Emma engaged was a big part of what enabled the child to be so clear and calm.
Sadly, we are going to need clear headed emergency call handlers in the growing crisis: I wonder how many toddlers will need to call 999 / 912 / 112 etc for their parents in April and May 2020?
(This comment posted early April, when we can see the peak coming...)
@@trueriver1950 the "peak" oof
Brings a tear to my eye. A lovely clever little girl and yes, a great call handler
You are kidding , right??? The mother clearly can talk why didn't herself talk to them. I think the mother is showing off. Btw, I think you have sign of depression as you fishing for stupid thing to make you teary
+Haider Jabar you have read the discription right?
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Haider Jabar oh get lost you dirty lowlife.
Haider Jabar u dumb
I cried when she said “she is going back to sleep now” 😭
I cried when she said 'it's in mummy's tummy' 😢😢 INTELLIGENT 3 YEAR OLD👍👍
I cried too. The girl is very intelligent👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
The call handler used up all the sweetest words in the English Dictionary.
Yeah!
Poppet is certainly unusual from my side of the Atlantic (Nova Scotia) but I've been binging on 999 calls and several of the UK dispatchers have used it! I only know it from its use in Voodoo charms which I came across in a book on the Salem Witch trials. It is definitely sweet.
this girl is educated well
well done Emma
Yeah
Thanks i try
That 999 operator deserves an award as well! She was exemplary in her calming kind voice. Brilliant work!
Nice to hear a real operator 💕❤️💕❤️
"My poppet" awww bless this lady and this child and the mom
You can hear the relief in her voice when she realises the woman is pregnant and it wasn't a unnamed new-born who had tumbled down the stairs and was now quiet (an almost for-sure death sentence). 🥺
"whats the baby called?"
"we dont know yet"
5:05 operator: is that what's Santa's gonna bring you? a baby brother?
3 yr old: no, it's in mummy's tummy, Santa's not bringing it 😒😒😒
me: 😂😂😂
she seems like a reasonable person
Ikr!! What a sweetheart!! 😂😂😂

Aww bless her the wee lamb. How good was she. A wee star 🌟. Hope mum and Baby are OK. ❤️
@@sandramullen7804
I saw this reported at the time the award was given. The BBC report said that mum and baby were fine (by then the baby had been born)
Merry Christmas to this wee child, her new brother, her other brother, her mum, and to this great call handler.
Got chills and teared up. What a little love and that woman was Perfect on the phone!
I have never know a 3 year kid, that brilliant. Clever than adults.
How the call handler kept going without breaking into tears is beyond me.
Because She is a real pro.
Bro..!
1:17, sounds like she was fighting to stop crying, maybe wiping her eyes here.
Bet she burst into tears as soon as she disconnected.
Adrenaline and training
dang the little girl is awesome
One of THE BEST 911 operators ever! She is patient, loving, caring and by keeping this sweet baby girl talking she was able to find out pertinent information.
It's not 911. It's 999 in the UK. This is British not American.
Clever little lamb!!
her mum tachered her how to call 999
kids are more intelligent than we realise
thats true
As intelligent as they can be and we let them. Little sponges.
more then adults
Yup (I'm a kid myself btw)
kids are only intelligent if you teach them things
Be a good parent, it might just save your life one day. :')
amazing little girl.
Bless her wee little heart! So so brave and so smart.
I made it to:
"I can hear them."
"You can hear the ambulance, sweetie?"
"Yeah."
And then promptly burst into tears. Bless this clever, sweet little girl's heart. She's definitely a hero. ❤
Makes me cry aww what a well educated little one and so brave bless her.
What a brave intelligent young girl..crying
Such a super star!! Well done Emma and well done to the dispatcher too!!!!!!
I hope mum and baby were ok.
lfutrell82 Yes, they are.

Meavy Hetal so dark xD
ruclips.net/video/ID0ruOZZlws/видео.html
Uğur Önder Bozkurt Thank you for that!
"Oh, the baby is in mummy's tummy."
You can just hear the relief in the dispatcher's voice, who previously probably typed something like "2 patients, one adult and one infant, fall from greater hights, unknown breathing"... holy s*it...
I dont know which is more risky for them, A mom with a kid or a pregnant mom.
@@SirZeck Definitively the mom with a kid.
1) The injuries of the mom don't change weather she had a baby inside her or on her arm. (If anything, she can't catch herself with a baby, but that's speculation.)
2) A toddler falling down the stairs and hitting hard on the floor and/or the steps is likely to sustain fractures and maybe even a concussion, both of which can be severly life-threatening, especially when combined with a moderate bleeding as small children don't have as much reserve as adults have - a fetus inside the mother on the other hand is perfectly cushioned inside a bubble of water that acts like an airbag, you'd have to fall in a very particular way to either injure the fetus or injure the mother in a way that would neccessitate an emergency c-section.
So, if you ask me as a paramedic, what I would prefer to attend, it's definitively "pregnant woman fell down stairs" over "woman with toddler fell down stairs".
(Also, a sidenote: There is no crying to be heard on the tapes. Which is a VERY bad sign for a toddler that fell down the stairs. Dispatch most likely feared the kid to be near death or dead already until she realised it wasn't a baby at all, but rather an unborn fetus.)
@@QemeH Thank you for the very clear explanation,I thought if a pregnant woman falls or hit the belly then it's always end up in miscarriage and if the mother dies the baby inside is gonna die too. (Movies gave me this mindset xD)
But yours seems more likely the case in real life situation.
Happy New Year,Wish you the best of luck!
@@SirZeck You're welcome :) It's unfortunate how wrong movies get facts about pregnancy and medicine in general sometimes...
It's definitively not a given fact that every fall of a pregnant woman results in a miscarriage. On the contrary are pregnant women more prone to falling than women of the same age who are not pregnant, because of the new center of gravity and hormonal circulatory problems (fainting, etc.). If all these women would loose their babies, we'd talk about padding mothers in a protective shell all day. After a serious fall - and this mother was in and out of consciousness it seems - it is still very much advisable to have a gynaecologist check on your baby with an ultrasound to make sure. If, however, you can't see either clear fluid (not urin!) or larger amounts of blood come out, the baby is probably fine. It won't break anything if the fluid sac is still intact.
The thing about the baby dying if the mother dies is kinda true - if you don't do anything. But there is a procedure, called "emergency c-section", that can deliver a baby by surgical means even if it's not fully developed. From the 24th week of pregnancy onwards the baby has a reasonable chance of survival. So even if the mother in this case was beyond saving, we'd take her to the hospital as fast as we could for them to perform that c-section if at all possible.
[Sidenote: The emergency sectio is also performed in the reverse case where the baby is already beyond saving but the mother is in danger. An example for this might be a premature placental seperation, if the baby is already cut of from the blood - and therefore oxygen - supply, but now the mother is bleeding critically in her uterus and out her vagina. In this case you need to get the (dead) baby out to save the mother. It is another myth that this is a decision on whom to save; this is almost never the case as it's almost always to save one from being "dragged down" with the other.]
But I need to emphazise again: These are very rare scenarios - much, much less likely than a toddler having a life-threatening injury after falling down a full flight of stairs and being dead silent after...
@@SirZeck Turns out she went into premature labour- but they gave her drugs and managed to delay it. I mean it is viable to have a kid nearly two months premature but it doesn't work out every time and if the womb is safe it is better for the baby to stay there instead of an incubator.
Ex NEAS 999 EMSO - what a fantastic call handler and a great caller. Well done Emma x
My what a great wee barra well done Emma!!!!!
Such a clever girl, made me cry. The call taker was so good. Makes me feel so bad I probably earn 3x but feel guilty about not doing much to help vulnerable people.
I fell down the stairs in my apartment (about 9 stairs) and its scary anything can happen im glad the baby and the mother is ok now
Such a brave smart lil girl well done sweetie
This little girl is so brave and clever oh my goodness
Such a literal kid: "Yes, the baby and mummy fell at same time. You did not ask whether it is born yet, so I am not going to tell you."
the operator was so patient :)
911 Op: Imma hang up,deal with it youself.

What a fantastic call handler!
Wonderful young 3 year old to help here mother.
This girl deserves more than likes, comments and awards
You can teach your child to do this if you prepare them with 'drills' and practice what to do in emergencies.
Yeah, I was thinking the same. I don't have kids yet, tho I was diagnosed with epilepsy. It hasn't put my life at risk so far, you never know what might happen. Especially with kids
Clever little girl and excellent dispatcher, she knew everything to say I'll bet she has kids of her own. I'm so glad this has a happy ending
Both of them were brilliant
Imagine the operator after that call she must’ve been like wow
i bet those operators get such crazy stories every day . it's such a wonderful job and we should be proud of them :) but yes , this one in particular is quite special
sophie jacobs it truly is beautiful I’m so thankful to live in this country with NHS and great operators like this
Oh golly, when the paramedics finally arrived, I was nearly in tears.....
Having medics come to the home just in several minutes also amazes me
What beautiful Voice.
She's a little super😃😊 litle Angel!!!!!
Hi Melissa thanks again ☺
Well done 👍 good girl
What an amazing little girl
This happened almost six years ago, everyone is fine, yet I still have to lie down for a while after listening to this.
999 operato. Is that what Santa's going to bring you? A baby brother?
Child. No it's in mummy's tummy.
I cried when she said she could hear the ambulance xxxxx
That's a good example for the success of the education for children.
Super clever!
God blessed all involved at that moment. The Operator was wonderful keeping the child talking while getting as much info as possible. My heart stopped when she said Mommy went back to sleep. We should all be grateful to our Emergency Personal. I’m sure all had a wonderful Christmas.
we have this legendary 3 year old calling police to save her mom
and then there's 30 year olds calling police bc they didn't get the chicken nugget they want
who says adults are smarter than kids?🤷🏻♀️
Awwwwww. Tears 😭😭😭😭😭❤️
"---My poppet---" Aww.
she’s like no santa’s not bringing it mummy gets the credit for the baby
Great operator
wow, well done sweet girl...
What a sweet darling operator...n this sweet little girl is so smart. If it was a operator in the USA they'd b like "get off the phone stop playing it's not a toy, bc of this I'm calling Santa n tell him to never bring you toys,,HANG UP..I'm busy watching utube u little brat"!
You are wrong with that assessment. Operators are TRAINED to hear things.
Especially, children calling. They need to be patient. If it were a child prank, the parents would be called later.
Emma is very clever. 🙏🏾
God bless that child
Hi Melissa thanks 😊1002 I love you so much sweetheart love you so much 🎵

I am curious, how did the ambulance service get a snake in their logo, what does the snake represent?
3275Dan in lots of european countries a snake represents medicine.. pharmacies have them as the logo as well I guess the poison was used in early medicine or something ??
Not the poison...the venom from the snakes that is still used

Posted on Dec. 15, 2017: *It's the only snake I am not afraid of* By the way, I love Latin. It's my favorite ancient language. Lingua favorita antica. Latin is the only reason (besides that I'm an Anglophile) that I used to read the HP books. *Those* snakes scared me witless, "scarimus maximus" even though it's fictional. I stopped reading Harry Potter books a few years ago, though. Because of all the violence in the world lately. But I digress. The Asclepius snake is the only snake I am not scared of.
I like medical terminology, because of Latin. "The Good Doctor" is my favorite show.
*To Emma's mum: Congratulations on the new baby! Happy Christmas to all of you*
It represents the hippocratic oath, cuz hipppocrates went around with a snake on a staff in ancient Greek legend

Fantastic example on how to handle a call like this.
Hi nick and tim breakfast dr were embarrassing 😳
999 call?
Edit: Just found out it's UK emergency number
HAS Anime Easy to guess with the accents. But hard to be sure when you've never heard of it I guess.
Sunny Delight O just thought everyone have 911
HAS Anime Yeah, same. I first thought every one had 118, turns out it wasn't the case. 😅
Sunny Delight Where is 118?
Betty-Alexandria Pride And I just realised it's 112, wow I'm a fucking idiot.
But yeah, it's the main number to call when living in the European Union.
The thing is I live in France and we have four important numbers (and I sadly often mix them up).
Very very hard to hear the child subs would be great.
Do we know if the baby survived?
Yes, as later reported on BBC news website (but sorry I don't have the link)

I think they droning it for fun, clearly her mother can talk. Why couldn't she speak with the operator herself.
I think the mother was drifting in and out of consciousness
Nah, she just saw many utu be videos of children calling emergency, and wanted to imitate them. She is so full of stupidity
Lol oh ok
+Haider Jabar I really didn't know they allowed inmates of mental institutes--to have outside contact. What next--unescourted outside shopping sprees?
Haider's just someone having a bit of fun with the comments. Not your or my idea of fun, but some people get fun out of pushing boundaries. We all go through just nihilistic-edge phases and grow out of it eventually. Or most do anyway.
Would it kill you to provide some final details.
Hi Melissa thanks again ☺
