      I like the idea of that myself, but I'm not sure if expecting him to do an entire series like this would be practical. There is a lot of work and planing that goes into this, and he has to do research and calling up companies until he finds one willing to work with him. It could take up all his time and then he wouldn't have time for his normal cooking videos anymore. Maybe a special thing once in a while would be cool though, but he pretty much already does that.

    I love tea. Around 30 years ago, as a small boy, I used to go with my mother to visit a tea shop located at a shopping center under the Geneva train station. There, an old Chinese gentlemen mixed tea into small paper bags. As far as I was concerned, I looked like a wise magical man of times long gone. He did a fantastic black tea with dried orange peel and other bits. I loved it.
    Unfortunately, I heard a few years afterwards, when my parents and I had moved to another country, that the gentleman had passed away. To this day my mother has the last tea we bought there, religiously reserved for special moments.

      in my opinion, tea must be served in a small cup to keep the heat and aroma.
      Tea in China is never mixed with anything, no milk, no suger, no dry orange peels. The only possible combination is with tiny dry chrysanthemums.
      In July, I explore the main bazaar and the spice bazaar in Istanbul, they have endless selections of exotics tea leaves, including a rose tea, it will open when you add hot water in it, you should check it out.

      Tea rinsing. Some (loose leaf) teas (especially post-fermented teas like Puer) are rinsed briefly before infusion. This helps wash away any dust that may have collected, heat up the utensils (so that the tea doesn't lose heat to them), and also help the utensils develop flavor (for porous clay pots - in which case, you'll see the rinsing water being used to rinse all the utensils)

    • @cutiepiedaina
      @cutiepiedaina 7 лет назад +6

      the first time is to rinse the tea leaves

    • @mndlessdrwer
      @mndlessdrwer 6 лет назад +5

      It rinses the dust or fines from the leaves, warms the utensils, warms and begins saturating the leaves which really prepares the tea to extract well for your first proper infusion. Not all teas need to be rinsed, particularly some of the more delicate green teas.

    I would adore a series on tea! As an American from the southern states, the only tea I ever had until recently was sweet tea. in the south that's a few tea bags and a few cups of sugar brewed warm to dissolve everything together. I want to learn more about teas and their properties as well as the proper ways to make them. I've recently done this with coffee and I'm obsessed. If you start a series on tea, I'll study them and #spreaditlikebutter. Thanks for the awesome videos!

    • @memeetto
      @memeetto 6 лет назад +2

      BlameBarky don't use the tea bags I don't know why but they taste horrible in the states! The same brand tea bag Lipton in the middle East would taste fine but in the states for some reason, the same Lipton brand would taste so bad I can't even drink it! Once you try loose tea you will never go back to tea bags.. give it a try.. my husband loves ice tea so I got him an ice tea maker it very easy to use and you can use lose tea with it.

    As soon as I saw the gaiwan I knew this guy was for sure a tea lover too and wasn't just waxing poetic like many a western vendors. Tea in this way, and tea suited for that style, really is a different world.
    I also love how he mentioned to forget taste. It is very important to appreciate anything you ingest not just by taste, or aroma. You learn to truly taste first with your nose, then with your mouth, then with your body. There is so much more to how great a tea, or any food can feel, that isn't tied to how it smells.

I am from the States , Western states , and we know the cowboys put coffee in a sock . The first brew was saved into the sock . The second brew was saved also , then the third brew was from the sock alone . Every other day some more coffee was added to the sock till there was no more flavor , or no more coffee .

    A good tea is what showed me that using the proper, high-quality ingredients matters. I thought the bagged stuff was pretty good, then I went to an actual tea shop which put leaves into the pot and needed a strainer and the difference was amazing. The theory carries over to almost any other recipe as well - high-quality ingredients prepared in the proper way yields the best results.

    Thank you so much for making this video. Tea deserves so much more appreciation than it often gets. A simple bag of tea is about as uninspiring as the cheapest glass of wine.
    I appreciate your curiosity and excitement as always. More tea tasting videos would be splendid; different types and varieties side by side, or even recommendations on places to buy quality tea.
    Cheers!

    I love all your videos Alex! They are so entertaining, educational, & inspiring. When I head to Paris I always check out two tea shops: Mariage Freres & Maison des trois the. One is more of the colonial concept for tea & the other is more the traditional Chinese tea. It would be amazing if you did an episode on Parisian tea

    DEFINITELY Want to learn more about tea! This exploration of the tea basics has been eye opening and definitely helps amplify my appreciation of tea. A deep dive into floral and herbal blends, the science of brewing the varies types of tea, all would be fascinating to watch.

    I absolutely think that when you taste some proper yerba mate, both the green or the roasted one, ice or cold. You will be amazed. Look for it! and it also would be awesome if you could teach about some blends!

    Alex, last time I was in Paris, I stumbled upon an excellent tea shop beside the Seine, called Gung Fu Cha, specializing in Oolong teas with 8-9 steeps accompanied by seasonal nuts, fruits and other foods. Highly recommended!
