Thank you so much for watching! Hope you enjoyed it!
If you're new to my channel and videos, hi! I'm Evan Edinger, and I make weekly "comedy" videos every Sunday evening. As an American living in London I love noticing the funny differences between the cultures and one of my most popular video series is my British VS American one. I'm also known for making terrible puns so sorry in advance. Hope to see you around, and I'll see you next Sunday! :)
If you want to know HOW I make my videos including gear, lighting, all the tiddly bits that connect it all together, (with cheaper alternatives and kit I used to use), I've listed each item, what it's great at, and why I use it on the gear section of my website here:

The quality of this video makes it feel like a tv show. A tv show of an American drinking tea... I’d watch it... I mean I am. I dont know it gives me a lot of serotonin!

Y@@pigeon_the_brit565 Yes; poor Rye Jone (sic).
The reply was in CAPS though. Maybe Evan's caffeine hit still hadn't settled down.
Evan is British thank you very much!
He’s actually a British citizen now. Soooo he’s technically an Englishman drinking tea.
This has got to be the most British thing I have ever watched, such a joy.
Measurements of milk: drip, drop, splash, splosh. Everyone knows how much you mean.
And a dash
I do like a double strength brew with a healthy glug of milk so I can neck it first thing in the morning.
Yorkshire tea for life! Yorkshire Gold is alright but bog-standard Yorkshire is fantastic
This! Yorkshire Original > Yorkshire Gold every day xD

If you weren’t aware fella the advert for Typhoo was “you only get an oooh, with Typhoo” and you made as close to an “oooh” as I’ve ever heard when you took your first sip ...it was beautiful 😂

The sweetness in the Melbourne Breakfast is a dash of vanilla, that's why they called it a flavoured black tea. T2 has a whole range of breakfast teas based on Australian cities as well as classic English and Irish Breakfast teas. The Melbourne is my favourite though.
Yes, love this comment, it annoyed me slightly that he selected T2 Melbourne Breakfast and not just T2 Breakfast tea.
My fav too ☕
T2 Christmas Breakfast is fantastically good
I think the whole of britain breathed a collective sigh of relief when you finally mentioned the digestives you'd prepared to have with your teas.
The most British video Evan has ever made. Should receive a golden stamp of Her Majesty. Even the commonwealth is featured. 😂
It was very wholesome.
Maybe there's a series here, broken down by county or general geographical area.
Cheeses. Sausages. Pies. Chips.
Cornish scones vs Devonshire scones vs everywhere else's scones.
Devon vs Somerset vs TheRest cider.

As an Irishman, the lack of Barry's and Lyons tea sickens me. This was fun though
Barry's is the crack cocaine of the tea world. You can only get it through Amazon in the UK, though, and it's very expensive. (£6 for 80 bags). Years and years ago, the absolute best tea out of Ireland was Bewley's
@@darriendastar3941 they sell Barry’s tea in Morrison’s! They have a (very small) Irish section

My first time living in Spain the local cafe would brew a Lipton tea bag in a warm glass of milk when I asked for a tea 🤢 had to talk them through step by step for a few days to get it right
Clipper is our go to, they've got a good history too, one of the first fair trade tea companies as well as being the first plastic-free tea bag
I find it really surprising that the two teas that made it to the final were the one where the first reactions weren't really good, he said that Clippers was a bit watery, then when he tried Yorkshire's he said that was better and can taste the tea more, but then ruled out Yorkshire's first between the two. Same with Twinings, he first said "I don't enjoy this one as much as the others". And then those two were the two best English Breakfast teas... what happened? xD
I just posted a reply to the video saying something similar, albeit two years later.
Some people are complaining that he used milk, but it makes sense for him to compare them how he would usually drink them 🤷♀️ though this did leave the loose leaf one at a bit of a disadvantage.
Regardless! I also drink tea with milk because I don't like the bitterness of black tea ':))
Right? and if you don't know how to brew looseleaf properly it's never going to shine whether its good or "gimmicky tourist" stuff.
I don’t get why people would complain about milk in black tea being wrong. Have you ever drunk tea in India? You can practically chew it
When I was little I was invited to a tea party with adults. I'd never been anything like it, and so I was doing what they were doing adding milk and sugar to the different teas. I'd tasted 3 or so different teas that way. And I couldn't figure out why I wasn't enjoying it. Then the host's husband walks through and asked: Have you drank the Picard tea yet?
🤔 Picard Tea? Oh! Tea Earl Grey Hot! I loved Earl Grey Tea, but I don't drink it with milk and sugar. I drank it and the rest of the teas black from then on out and enjoyed them so much better then the first teas.
@@DoctorsSong I can relate. The first time I had tea, it had sugar in it and I didn't like it. I wasn't accustomed to bitter tastes back then anyway, so I might not have enjoyed it regardless, but I added more sugar trying to kill the bitterness and it just became worse.
I only started to enjoy tea when I decided to have it black, no sugar added. The same goes for coffee, by the way. I occasionally add milk to tea or coffee, but I can't stand having them sweetened.
I would be complaining if he hadn't used milk. It is the standard way to drink breakfast tea in the UK. If someone served you breakfast tea without milk in the UK you'd complain.
It's not a question anyone British needs answering. Yorkshire is the undisputed champion. Nothing else compares.
I went to the states 2 years ago and for gifts I printed individual 'pockets' for 150 Yorkshire bags. They were much appreciated by all!
Nononono PG tips is the absolute God of tea
@@guyellis6819 Get out of here with your blasphemy!
@@gimmick1018 can we at least agree that Tetley's is shit?
It really isn’t!
Twinings is my favourite as well. I prefer their Ceylon tea though. I really recommend buying their loose leaf tea and getting some sort of metal in-cup infuser. Loose leaf is thought to be better as they use the larger leaves, with the smaller pieces being used for the bags. Plus, there’s less waste. Okay, you have to clean it, but it makes Greta happy.

It was probably also a little bit edited
Done Yorkshire Tea dirty here mate! At least it did better than Lipton haha. And I can't deny, T2 know their stuff, their jasmine tea is divine
I love T2 New York Breakfast, that sweet tea is sooo good. But if in doubt, Yorkshire tea.
I need to up my tea game. Jasmine tea!
as a Melbournian who drinks tea ( everyone drinks coffee here) this makes me happy :)
I'm with you! Get funny looks working in healthcare in Melbourne and not drinking coffee 😊
Aussies do love their coffee! ☕
Also he said melbourne correctly, I was waiting to cringe and then I was pleasantly surprised when I didn’t lol
I love both tea and coffee but does it count if I'm not originally from Melbourne lol
I love a Melbourne breakfast, I’m from Melbourne also
This is one of the highest quality videos I think I've seen on RUclips. The lighting, camera quality, sound, gentle background music, multiple camera angles: all of it, magnificent. And now I know which tea to get if/when I ever find myself in England (just moved to Germany and hope to vacation in England eventually!!)
This should be required to become a British citizen. You must have a preferred Official tea and be able brew a proper cuppa.
Or at least pick a house tea and be able to create one to a series of common standards
I doubt it. Tea may be the most popular drink of brits but still they aren’t going to put a drink as a mandatory citizen ship test. There are plenty of brits who don’t drink tea ever.
@@EmilyCheetham That’s me! I can’t stand the stuff! 🤮
@@DrWhoFanJ I don’t like tea either. Iv had the odd glass of fruit tea but so far Iv yet to discover anything Id want to drink regularly let alone daily. Well no hot teas. I don’t mind the twinings cold infusion fruit teas once in a while.
@@EmilyCheetham I mean, for me it’s more that I’m so sensitive to heat that it’s only comfortable for a few seconds between being painfully hot, and uselessly cold.
But, yes, the few times I’ve tried it, the flavour was also horrible.
Same with coffee as well; even a coffee cake is something I’d never eat no matter how hungry I was!
Hell, I can’t even do hot chocolate! 😭
I'm a hard core PG tips person (pyramid bags all the way, brewed in a teapot, beautiful!) but Tetley or Yorkshire tea brands are acceptable - though I think you got ripped off with the Yorkshire gold, standard Yorkshire tea is pretty solid
For a long time I resisted bags and used Co-op 99 loose tea. A few weeks ago I found the old tea caddy and was amazed to find it still had some loose tea in it. While it lasted it was the best tea I've drunk in years!
Pg is wank
Noooooo. YORKSHIRE TEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As an Aussie I’m so happy to see Melbourne Breakfast by T2 here, I literally have it in my cupboard right now
Watching you get quicker and quicker as you drank genuinely was so so funny
This was thrilling. Would always rank PG tips above Tetley, and normal Yorkshire is lovely.
I always find PG tips to be among the most disappointing teas out there. It’s too weak to drink with milk and it’s got an odd sourness that makes it unpalatable back.
@@WhichDoctor1 Wholly disagree. PG Tips is my hands down fave. I'm Canadian and discovered it later in life. It's head and shoulders above the rest.

the Melbourne T2 should be disqualified because it has added flavourings.
Just before I watch I want it to be known that if matey here puts the milk first I'm taking that brand new passport of him.
He didn't. He's not a plod 😂
It's ok. Thankfully he can be allowed to stay here.
Also, I feel like the "milk first" thing is completely misunderstood. Obviously you can not put milk in before you steep the tea!
The "milk first" is speculated to have originated back when people served brewed tea from pots. Poor people had low quality china and added milk before the hot tea, to avoid damaging the cups. Upper class people had high quality porcelain that could handel swift temperature changes and therefor added tea first and then milk second (if at all. The had more expensive teas and sometimes added lemon or nothing). Science however shows benefitd to adding the milk first IF the tea is already brewed:
The milk will be warmed more evenly and are less likely to result change struktur (that can lead to the skin on top of the tea).
But NEVER milk before water is your brewing with a teabag in a mug. I think they still use the capital punishment in those instances.
@@melleme89 I never brew tea in the mug. If there's no teapot, no tea for me. I always put the milk in the cup first. Mostly because if you do, you don't need a spoon. But I'm not fanatical about it. Of course I'm Canadian so what do I know. My go to is standard Tetley orange pekoe.
To be fair, I don't think he has his passport yet.
Honestly, I came here for the comment section and the final verdict of the video. I was not planning on watching a 20 min tea drinking vid or expecting to, yet I watched it entirely.

It’d be interesting to see you try German black teas as well sometime! Ostfriesen tea is something they enjoy and I’d be curious as to how you consider non-British teas compared with British (e.g. Russian as well).
Perhaps that could be a future video idea: comparing foreign black teas to the number one English breakfast from this (and Twinings of course)

Hello and welcome back to a British man playing an American, playing a Brit
Interesting how the tase test goes with adding milk to all of your teas. T-Phoo is a very harsh tea, but you liked it because of the added milk. I think a taste test without added milk would be more enlightening.
What British person doesn't add milk to their tea?
Please, please try Barry's gold original tea. It's the Irish godsend for teas. Although some people will argue lyons is better.. It's controversial to say the least XD
My best friends in Dublin drink Barry's every day.

Barry’s original for me. Irish tea is delicious…thankful for Amazon.
I'm Norwegian, and that's the only tea I drink lol. I have to buy it on the net directly from Barry's, the shops here only have Lipton, maybe Twining's if you're lucky but it's really expensive. To be fair I no longer drink breakfast tea so this is interesting, I tend to drink twinning the individual regional teas, of assam, ceylon and darjeeling, which each have a unique flavour going from a more malty deeper flavour of assam, to the more delicate darjeeling. My favourite is a ceylon, with my go to being an assam

The fun thing about liptop is that it started as english, then was bought by the Dutch brand Unilever. This brand recently moved to the UK for tax reasons which makes Lipton british again. It has never been american
This is not breakfast tea, this is tea, just tea
This was actually really interesting. Clippers, Twinings and PG are my top 3 out of that lineup and they all made it to almost the top. (I have never tried TZ so can't speak on that one)
If you want to into the realm of fancy good not touristy teas 'Whittard' is a good shout.
As someone who used to live next door to the Clipper Tea factory I find it upsetting that you have called it Clippers :(
Finally, some really serious scientific debates being tackled on this website
BTW T2 Melbourne Breakfast has vanilla listed as an ingredient. Thus the sweetness he kept tasting. Can be mimicked by using vanilla flavoured almond milk if you want in a regular black tea.
It’s funny how as a Brit when the options for tea include ‘English Breakfast’ I’m like ‘wtf is that? Is it just, you know, tea? Cos I just want tea.’ I feel like ‘English Breakfast’ is an American/international import where tea is more of a speciality drink with various styles? Whereas over here tea is just standard tea and fruit/herbal teas are a bonus?
English Breakfast is actually the dregs, originally. Like Victorian people would go to the tea shop and buy a few ounces or a pound of Orange Pekoe tea or Assam tea or Ceylon tea or whichever tea is now called Kenyan tea and the tea sellers would be left with 3/4 ounce of each at the bottom of their stores, so they'd mix it up and sell it as 2 and 1/2 ounces of "English Breakfast Blend" and people started asking for it specifically.
Its kind of like the difference between single malt whisky and a blended whisky.
I used to get so annoyed when I would go somewhere in America and order tea and they would ask what kind. Then I wondered for ages why it tasted so weird until I realized that standard black tea here (in America) is earl grey and if I wanted the good stuff I had to ask for English breakfast.
@@VtorHunter why is Earl Grey the standard?!?!!!
@@robhardingpoetry It's not, but American restaurants do not do a good job of serving tea. I'm actually surprised that VtorHunter was given a choice of tea, as most restaurants only have Lipton or other generic black tea. If an American restaurant has more than one variety of tea, the options will probably be English Breakfast tea (i.e., black tea), Earl Grey, and some herbal teas. I'm guessing that the people who were serving him thought that as a sophisticated British person, he probably wanted something fancier than plain black tea, so they brought him Earl Grey. Or maybe they thought Earl Grey was more appropriate for the time of day (i.e., "English Breakfast Tea" is what Brits drink with breakfast, and Earl Grey is what they drink in the afternoon).
I think we have similar preferences in tea - I usually drink the Twinings English Breakfast or Everyday as just everyday tea, T2 have amazing teas for a treat, PG Tips is almost there but just a bit fruity - not bad but a bit unexpected. Clipper are very solid and a good moral choice. I do wish Twinings would go plastic-free, there's like a fine cobweb of plastic in the teabag that hangs about if you compost at home. Weird. The best American tea I've found is "Harney and Sons" - which I found on holiday in New Zealand! They have a Decaf "Paris" which is very like T2's French Earl Grey, only, decaf so good late at night. I know, I know, Decaf, but, given the choice between evening Decaf tea and sleeping, evening regular tea and no sleep, or no tea, the sleep wins!
This might be my fave Evan video so far 😁 nice to see another Twinings fan. I tend to go for their Strong Breakfast, though. I find the standard English Breakfast a little weak.
I actually used to have my tea with two sugars, and was a Tetley drinker. When my partner introduced me to Twinings she convinced me to try it without sugar and I found it was lovely! I then tried to apply this to Tetley and discovered why I'd been having it with sugar all these years. It's bloody awful!
Fun fact about Yorkshire Gold. It's actually Sir Patrick Stewart's tea of choice, and not, contrary to popular belief, "tea, Earl Grey, hot"!
Loose leaf tea does taste more watery compared to bag tea, so I'm not surprised that one stood out. As an organic Clipper drinker I'm very happy with your results Mr Edinger! (but very curious to get my hands on some T2)
Can confirm that biccy is definitely the correct spelling
We only drink Lipton ice tea from the bottle
I appreciate the matching mugs from outside in, with the white ceramic, clear, green, black & white, and the white & blue inside. A small detail that made me happy :)
Ah yes, the singular most British thing ever, and I'm here for it!

I will refer to Victoria Coren Mitchell on Room 101… it isn’t “English Breakfast Tea”… it’s just Tea
My gran drank regular yorkshire tea every single morning for 30 or 40 years. Never yorksire gold as it was always "too fancy". She grew up in yorkshire but spent most of her life in Canada, and regular yorkshire tea was most accessible.
Loving the different angles this hole video feels quality Evan good job
You’ve clearly not been in an american grocery store in the past 30 years. Lipton is basically only for iced tea in the U.S. at this point. In addition to having a lot of british (namely Twinings) and at least one irish brand in my local Safeway, i order Harney & Sons online from Massachusetts.
“English Breakfast Tea”, its just Tea lol. Morning, noon and night, it is one tea to rule them all!
Ps Tetley all the way! ❤️
Victoria Coren Mitchell put that phrase in Room 101 I think!
Hmm, breakfast tea is a little bit milder than afternoon tea. For example Yorkshire Gold is breakfast tea, Yorkshire Red/standard Yorkshire is afternoon tea.
For people who care about these things, which I realise is a) a declining group, b) perhaps a step or a half-step upmarket from most tea drinkers? and therefore c) can be viewed as a bit pretentious, the "proper" English way of doing things is...
* mild tea with breakfast, two cups. because if you've had enough sleep you don't need much caffiene right now, you're already energetic enough to begin the morning well
* coffee in the morning, say half past ten, small mug. with biscuits
* a cup of tea in the afternoon, say half past three, but variable if you have visitors. with a slice of cake.
(a jug of something cold with lunch, wine and/or water with dinner, cocoa before bed). don't mix up the biscuits with the cake.
...yes, I probably care too much about this. sorry.
@@elizabethgrosvenor153 throughout UK history, marketing tea as breakfast tea is not something that has happened until recently as far as I understand.
Every time Evan says COAFFEE I can't help but laugh
🤣 how British are you now, with your cuppa 🤣 brilliant
Melbourne breakfast is the best thing I've ever tasted (it's just vanilla flavoured but i love it), it's so good. but normally (because T2 is bloody expensive) I get nature's cuppa
