    Yes. "White" album for sure. It sounds like a real modern Rock album. Since 2018 remix, I find myself playing "air" bass (and I'm a guitarist!) on "Glass Onion", "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and "Everyone's Got Something To Hide ...." :) Yes, some songs I don't need to hear again ("Obla Di, Obla Da", "Honey Pie" etc..); but my 20 track mix is almost an obsession now. And don't let Charles Manson ruin this album for the uninitiated out there. And, yes, I get "Revolution #9" now. It was way ahead of it's time for sampling.

The great thing about ranking the Beatles is there are no bad songs or albums, so the ranking really comes down to your personal connection to different albums. I too love "Beatles For Sale" and I believe it to be their most underrated album. It is a natural progression of the country/folk sound that The Beatles introduced on "A Hard Day's Night." I love the fact that most of the tracks feature an acoustic guitar. I also like the six covers they recorded for this album, most notably "Rock And Roll Music" and "Kansas City/Hey Hey Hey Hey." I always find this album to be fresh as a daisy.

    I think personal experiences from listening at certain times like the first one, certain surroundings, special occasions etc all play a role. If i judge it purely on sound, and i dont mean hifi i put 'with the Beatles' on top of the early ones, 'rubber soul' in the middle and 'Let it be' for the end. Not talking about songwriting. For some reason i actually prefer the early Beatles as opposed to the arguably 'best' sounding 'Abbey Road'. And Sgt Pepper has sunk quite a bit over the years. So, i agree w Lennon: 'with the Beatles' IS the sound of the Beatles as a band. Can't be bettered. It's magic..so, that's my number One.

    As Seinfeld said “I don’t know how official these rankings really are”, and in that spirit, I’ll offer my own:
    13) Yellow Submarine
    12) Beatles for Sale (Mr. Moonlight gives me the creeps)
    11) Please Please Me - As with others on this list, a great album overshadowed by others)
    10) Magical Mystery Tour
    9) Let It Be (I hated the the Phil Specter treatment)
    8)Help!
    7) With The Beatles (Those great covers are my favorite)
    6) Rubber Soul
    5) Sgt Pepper’s
    4) A Hard Day’s Night (It was fairly recently when looking at the track list that I realized what a great album this is)

    1) The White Album

    Nice list. Your preference seems to be: Late period - Middle period - Early period.
    Growing up, this was also how I viewed these albums. But at some point, although I treasure the later albums very much, I found a new apprecation
    for the band's early albums. Mostly because there's a joy to them that comes from the guys actually playing live together. And that's something
    that can never be reproduced with laying down multiple tracks, one by one, in the studio. You just can't capture that energy that way.
    That said, Abbey Road is my clear favourite. And I'm glad that you're into some of the band's less loved tracks such as "Maxwell's Silver Hammer"
    and "Revolution 9". - You need a sense of humour to get into those songs, and unfortunately, it would seem that most people don't think that
    humour belongs in music...

I highly regard this album - it was a great progression, lyrically, musically & experimentally from what came before. John imo was the best Beatle as he started and ended the band. I do believe the reason why Beatles were the best ever band was because they gave up when they did and John did that, he knew.

      Interesting thought but as we now know the other 3 without John attended & played on the last ever Beatle recording session - George's I Me Mine - in Jan.1970. So John had left the group at that point - & George was promoting the upcoming Let It Be LP before release - & Paul said he was leaving the group as late as April '70!!

    • @buskman3286
      @buskman3286 5 месяцев назад

      Without Paul's influence the "Beatles" last album would likely have been "Revolver." The others all agreed that, annoying as he could be, it was Paul who was always cajoling them to go back to the studio for the 'next' album.
      I disagree with the "definitive (?) order of the albums but, as other's have stated, that's a totally personal thing. On any given day I would change my opinion of the order. BUT I can absolutely say that the White Album would never be my number one...or two...or three... ;) I could easily shift Pepper, Revolver, and A Hard Days Night in/out of MY number one.

    Our ages seem to align, and it appears that we share similar music preferences. I appreciate the arrangement of all these albums you've chosen. Personally, I don't have a favorite album among them as I discover new aspects of interest in each one whenever I revisit them. Moreover, as I mature, my musical taste evolves like a fine wine. The Beatles, for instance, will forever hold a special place in my heart. I had the privilege of attending Paul McCartney's mesmerizing concert in Atlanta several years ago. It was truly a magical experience. I must also mention that "Live and Let Die" is undeniably one of my all-time favorite songs.

    Piggies, Don't Pass Me By, Why Don't We Do it in the Road, Wild Honey Pie and Revolution 9 are all below average songs by the standards of any average band. Their inclusion on the White Album by the greatest band ever can not be excused. Those five songs alone make the White Album a notch below Abbey Road.

      The album is popularly known as the 'White Album'. It's true name is 'The Beatles'. I think in that aspect it's a collection of solo recordings of various degrees of quality, made by 4 separate individuals under one banner.

    • @PhilSmithRHR
      @PhilSmithRHR 6 месяцев назад

      It is certainly valid to argue that those are the five weakest tracks on the album. Although this is a double album where the sequencing is important: for example, Good Night does not work anywhere near as well unless it comes after the nightmare of Revolution 9. The songs may be weaker, but they work well in the context of the sequence.
      Taken alone, Sun King, Mr Mustard and Polythene Pam are not exactly classic songs either. But they work well in the sequence and are fun.
      I think it’s also possible to argue that the White album has a bit more rock ‘n’ roll energy than Abbey Road.

    • @DonaldMains
      @DonaldMains 6 месяцев назад

      Not disagreeing with you. Sequencing is important and yes Abbey Road has some weaker tracks too. I very much enjoy The White album. it's my second favorite Beatles album. But sequencing aside couldn't they have come up with some better material? The friction within the band really played a role. If every song but Revolution 9 was on the album it might be better than Abbey Road, but John should have put Revolution 9 on one of his and Yoko's avant garde albums and saved us all the agony of 8 wasted minutes of our lives. @@PhilSmithRHR

      It’s a fair point with Revolution 9, but John was very determined to have it on there, so it’s very much a record of where the Beatles were at that time and what they were interested in. I don’t know why Not Guilty, Hey Bulldog and Junk were not used on the album. They could also have placed Hey Jude on it, although they did like to give fans singles that were not on an album.

    Well, for you the Beatles just got better and better with their top three albums all coming at the end of their career!
    Let It Be is possibly the Beatles at least influential album in terms of altering the sound of music generally. The Band and Dylan and others had already done the post psychedelic back to basics thing. It has flaws, and yet I can understand why you would prefer it as a listen to Revolver because of its atmosphere and warmth. This is, despite the fact that Revolver is probably the Beatles at the peak of their creativity with all four contributing 100% to the album.
    I would say A Hard Days Night is the best pop album and Revolver is the best experimental album.

    I have a very different list, but it comes from a similar source, a love of music. Even the albums near the bottom I still like a lot, just not as much as the ones near the top. A few notes: I put A Hard Days's Night this high, because I love the enthusiasm and energy of the album. The band is not yet tired of Beatlemania and are on a rush to conquer the planet (which they did). I put the White Album this low because it contains some of the bands worst songs. It also contains quite a few of their best songs, so I can understand the appreciation. The songs that I don't like just ruin the experience for me.

      This is a fantastic list! It's fun to see how others rank these albums. I especially enjoy it when the list is different from mine. I watched a video the other day where a woman placed Yellow Submarine towards the top of the list because she loved orchestration. Thanks for taking the time to comment!

    Nice job. To me, SGT PEPPER is the best, with ABBEY ROAD close behind.

    Almost fully agree, I would switch Revolver and Rubber Soul... I agree fully that Sgt Pepper is very revolutioner in many things, but although the initial idea was to do some concept album, it's more solo work and music then WhiteAlbum, you can not here on Sgt. Pepper the team work, the overall agreement on whole concept... anyway - A Day In The Life, is great, Lucy is great, Sgt. Pepper itself is great, Fixing a Hole is very original song... but somehow they are not fitting together.. then for me is White Album, again not a team work... and top 3 - honestly I can not decide... Let It Be was my 3rd long, long time till I saw Get Back document I understood that the difference I did not understand is the concept to play it live and it sound like this and it simply sounded to me like a step back... and it's not - Let It Be and Abbey Road ( Let It Be more ) are again at least albums of Beatles and not singles of John, Paul, George... and that is why for me is higher than White Album... nd in the final it''s becoming quite simple - Abbey Road is one level higher.. but we can rank the albums, feel somehing else but why, why he shot John at the time, he wanted to get back to music, even started to speak with Paul... what magical things could have been wrote... that' sad...

      @@MarkMorris-1962 I love them for30 years... first music I remember and even still in communism here in Czechia :-) First song I loved as a kid was Michelle... and you were fully true about Sgt. Pepper - the cover did a lot... I was looking on it for hours... and for me although they were writing their songs independently somwhen from Help, they were then putting them together, discussing... that's why White Album is very differrent... and their solo careers... and it's very surprising, that on last 3-4 albums George's songs were almost the best ones... 3 such great composers... how this could happen...
      one funny thing, of course it happens sometimes, when I mentioned that my favourite band is Beatles, they are usually thinking, that I am at least 80 years old... and then you play for example Helter Skelter and I've never met anyone who recognized that it's The Beatles... for most of the people Betales are She Loves You... and don't know what extraordinary they are missing in music...

      And as one guy said here, I was one year back also
      in London and Liverpool... of course my twin girls know about Beatles, heart almost everything but puberty was just starting... and we went to Abbey Road and they were holw time complaining, why we go there, that it's just crossroad :-D And we came there and there were like 100 people waiting for the photo :-D and they were shocked, they really did not believe me, that its not usual crossrroad :-) and in the end they were happy to have a picture from there :-)

      @@MarkMorris-1962 and I hope you had the luck to see at least Paul live on concert... I am praying to see him at least one more time... and you know he is playing like 2,5-3 hours and after the show I was just thinking how many songs were not on th elist and I wanted to hear them :-) And I had some small personal crises after some break up with a girl and I wrote on FB to one girls I saw once in music club here and asked her if she wants to go with me next day to Prague to see Paul McCartney... and she asked me who is he? 😀

      That's a tough one! That's a great compilation of Beatles songs, but because it's such an odd mixture of newer and older songs I would rank it low. Maybe a notch above Yellow Submarine?

    The White Album has too much fluff. Let It Be is a rushed mess. Magical Mystery Tour is a random collection of songs. Revolver is their best album. Rubber Soul is top three. Your list is silly.

      @@MarkMorris-1962 I listened to your clip long enough to make my original comment and heard the first rank as, predictably Yellow Submarine, like everyone else who attempts this. So, you think it's "last" just because it's really just one side of songs? Even though this short collection of songs has some of their best, including the title cut, Hey Bulldog and All You Need? See--this is stupid. I suggest you stop wasting your time and everyone else's.
