  • @ReliableRocker
    @ReliableRocker Год назад +2

    Great list! One of the very first rock albums I ever owned, as well as my first Beatles album, was the American cassette tape version of "Magical Mystery Tour." Being a kid and just getting into the world of classic rock, I had no idea what I was in for. I had no idea that "Sgt. Peppers" even existed. No idea that MMT was actually a compilation of their songs that accompanied a movie... I just turned it on and listened to it front to back with my jaw dropping over and over again, as each new song led my young mind on a new psychedelic trip. So Magical Mystery Tour leads my Beatles album list because it was my first love and a great way to get introduced to a band like the Beatles. I consider myself lucky for being able to experience it the way I did! But I like that you point out in the video that the Beatles are at their best when they're rocking. I agree! But I do think there's also something very, very special about their psychedelic stuff, too. I know "Hey Jude" is't an album, technically, so doesn't fit on the list, but that would also be high on my own list, too. Mostly do to the title track and it's inclusion of "Rain," which is definitely a top 5 Beatles song, if not the one that truly showcases everything great about the Beatles in one song. Loved the video! Cheers!

    I like the comment about how the Beatles turned from a rock n' roll band to "rock musicians" with the release of Revolver. They weren't the first band to make the change from straight R&R (see: Bob Dylan and The Byrds), and they probably made the change one album earlier with Rubber Soul. But of course, they were one of the most influential in changing the face of pop music once again.

    • @CanYouDigItMan
      @CanYouDigItMan  Год назад

      Thanks for your comment. Many Beatles fans think that Rubber Soul was where the change happened. But considering that the American Rubber Soul had 3 songs from the Help album and sessions, and a couple of songs that could easily fit on Beatles For Sale, proves that Revolver was the real turning point, not Rubber Soul. But then again, these albums were all recorded mere months apart. The changes came fast and furious. Cheers.

    • @mikeymutual5489
      @mikeymutual5489 Год назад

      @@CanYouDigItMan Many Beatles fans are correct. Rubber Soul featured a slowed down vibe with new introspective lyrics, reflecting a change in their music. And only "Wait" was a holdover from the Help sessions. Perhaps we could say that Rubber Soul was where the change to "rock music" started for the band, and Revolver was where it was completed.

    Great video. Finally someone else who thinks Sgt Peppers is overrated. It’s a great album, but it was so overhyped by the time I listened to it, there was no way it could live up to it. I have either Abbey Road or Revolver at #1 depending on the day.

    Great, insightful ranking of the Beatles catalog. I certainly don't agree with every ranking such as Sgt Pepper at number 7. Really? Still, your statement on Beatles for Sale is right on as it is a much-maligned recording mainly because of the 6 cover songs, but the originals are amazing.

    Finally someone who gets revolution 9, of course it's scary ominous nightmarish discordant, the sounds evoke the world the Beatles grew up in, England during world war 2, if you close your eyes you can picture bombs falling all over London and people hiding in the underground tunnels, and this mad collage is sandwiched in between 2 John Lennon penned nursery rhymes, cry baby cry & good night. So the white album closes with a crying baby falling asleep to a lullaby, wakes up crying after a horrible nightmare, lulled back to sleep by Ringo with full orchestra, a perfect way to end this epic album of albums. Got me to subscribe, # 29...

    It appears you are neither a Beatles fan, nor someone who heard them in order, for the first time. The best version of For Sale is Beatle VI, the 6 songs not on Beatles '65 plus two tracks from the upcoming Help!, and the B-Side of the Ticket to Ride single, along with two tracks recorded specifically for the album (one, the lesser track, would show up on the UK Help! LP), one of which is full-throated rock 'n' roll, Dizzy Miss Lizzie, and Bad Boy. For my money, Bad Boy was worth the price I paid for the record, in 1966.
    In addition, I chose to include a couple discs that rise above the typical Capitol treatment (one is now canon), treat the Past Masters as two LPs (sometimes, I also separate the two discs of the White Album, because the second record was barely half a record), and I ignore the ST version of Yellow Submarine, in favor of the true soundtrack, to arrive at the 17 discs on my list. All are keepers, but the reason Rubber Soul in in 5th is due to the crappy songs that Capitol did NOT remove, Think for Yourself, The Word, Run for Your Life. None of these have aged well.

Okay; rant here. 'Come Together'? Fantastic! 'Something'? Great! 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer'? I've heard much too many times, but I still will listen to it. 'Oh! Darling? Great, too! 'Octopus's Garden'? It's really a miss for me. 'I want you (she's so heavy)'? Absolutely bloody incredible. And Side 2 I mostly skip but it's still great.

It's so tough to rank those and that is what makes it so enjoyable to do 😅. I like their psychedelic stuff al lot. Including George his stuff on Yellow Submarine. Abbey Road is amazing except for Maxwell Silver Hammer... Let It Be also although there are some stinkers... The White Album has to nr1 for me. It's just amazing. Including Revolution 9. It's mindblowing.

  • @Ash-fd6lw

    Revolver and Pepper are 1 & 2 for me, Yellow Sub is last because its not a 'real' album. Second last would be BFSale, only because, despite some brilliant tracks, some of the covers are woeful. The other albums are hard to rate because each has songs I like and dislike. And this is where personal taste varies so much between fans. There is a difference between a BAD song and a DISLIKED song. Most songs I dislike are actually very good - I just don't like them. I fully understand why others appreciate them, but they're not for me. Luckily these days we can easily curate our own versions of the albums with playlists, and can vary them any time we want.
    I don't like roughly half of the White Album, but the other half is brilliant - so I skip the tracks I don't like and add Hey Jude into the mix. I'm not a fan of the Abbey Road medley, some potentially good songs in there but it sounds like a collection of leftovers thrown together to fill a quota. The Let It Be/Get Back material is a mixed bag, so I take the best versions of the 'good' tracks (usually the non-Spectorised version) and cobble it together with what's left of Abbey Road to make a composite album, with some singles thrown in for good measure.
    Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields I always include with Pepper, sometimes leaving out Kite and/or Within You Without You, depending on my mood. The four 'new' tracks on Yellow Sub I then include with the remainder of MMT. Of all the other albums, I usually replace the tracks I don't like with singles from the relevant era. 'Run For Your Life', 'Mr Moonlight' and 'Dizzy Miss Lizzie' always get bummed.

    "Help" and "Let It Be" were *way* too high up this list (with "Sgt. Peppers" and "Abbey Road" *way* too low). The first side of "Help" had a particularly weak set of songs, while "Let It Be" featured a bunch of badly-produced throwaways. Really? And "With The Beatles" was a better album than both "Please Please Me" and "Beatles For Sale." Come on.

    I often listen to the Beatles albums from Rubber Soul to Abbey Road and Let It be and to the non-album singles too, starting from Paperback Writer/ Rain and Day Tripper. I used to like their first 5 albums too but after Rubber Soul I became more or less disinterested in their early material, except for some of the songs.
