They may have been at a very low ebb personally to varying degrees, but lots of folks really love this era of their career. Not much cohesiveness or focus, but some of the results are among the best Beatle tunes ever, even most iconic. And what's with the relentless sneering voice? Weird.

This has been my favorite Beatles album since I was a kid. I acknowledge that Abbey Road is objectively better, but Magical Mystery Tour just works for me on so many levels. Top to bottom, every song is just such a vibe. The movie isn't great and seems like a misguided side quest that emerged as a coping mechanism on Paul's journey through the grieving process. It probably just created more stress than providing a constructive distraction. Regardless, I love I Am The Walrus so very much. Blue Jay Way is so creepy. Hello, Goodbye is infectious in all the right ways. Strawberry Fields Forever is such a masterpiece, the only thing that could follow it without falling on its face is the absolute brilliance of Penny Lane. It's just so damn good. I love all of it.
@@loontil I'd remove "Lovely Rita" and "When I'm Sixty-Four" instead. "Sixty-Four" is just McCartney attempting to write something Frank Sinatra would sing. and Strawberry Fields. Its a classic album no doubt.

Abbey Road was their pinnacle.
According to Roy Carr and Tony Tyler's 1975 book, 'The Beatles: An Illustrated Record', the song that George Harrison played on acoustic guitar in Golden Gate Park was 'Baby, You're a Rich Man'.
Those "shiny, happy people" gave him bad vibes... the "peace & love crowd."
Who knew what creepers the drugged out drop-outs of society could be???
@@popjaw1andOnly Seeing first-hand the darker side of the thing they helped create had to be so scary, especially on god knows how many micrograms of lsd in streets you’re not yet quite familiar with 🤯
@@CantTellYou For sure. That "peace & love" movement definitely had a dark side, and a lot of those bands were influenced by Aleister Crowley.
@@popjaw1andOnly He's on Pepper cover...TWICE
I thought I knew everything. Well done.
This channel is 🔥🔥🔥
Great vid!
Would of loved to have hung out with John in his Sunroom at Kenwood
Why do the British name their homes?? 😆
I thing John would have been a blast when he was in a good mood. But I've read about how he could be unpleasant, even to his friends, when he was in a bad mood. I'm sure the drugs had a lot to do with that.

Imagination
It's "would HAVE loved"
Your podcast is bad ass,thanks.
Magical mystery tour is my favorite album of theirs.
Walrus and Strawberry Fields are so amazing
every beatle album was golden, IMO. including just the A-side of Yellow Submarine. imagine a musical band that put out 37 songs in 3 months time. Beatles did just that
Nov 1968 WHITE ALBUM.....FEB 1969 YellowSubmarine ALBUM.
i actually like the yellow submarine instrumental music used in the movie, i think you should give it another try., i didnt like it at first and it grew on me.
Brilliant album from beginning to end, in spite of the issues.
Love it.. Have it on double 7".. Still sounds boss today.. Roll up roll up
Interesting how as soon as Yoko was introduced to the group they fell apart. I still think her presence was integral to their demise.
Correlation does not mean causation.
What an interesting, unique theory.
The older I get I do realise that she was THE pin point exact moment where John started putting out Dribble and ceased to be my favourite Beatle.
@@bensongbenson
Well so many people have said over the decades that Yoko had nothing to do with the breakup. I just disagree with them.
@@JohnSmith-rk6jy Do you mean drivel? Like "Don't Let Me Down?" "Sexy Sadie?" "Happiness...Gun?" Hmm. Reckon you and I have different tastes.
They may have been at a very low ebb personally to varying degrees, but lots of folks really love this era of their career. Not much cohesiveness or focus, but some of the results are among the best Beatle tunes ever, even most iconic. And what's with the relentless sneering voice? Weird.
The tensions is what made those recordings good
Great work
My favorite Beatles album.
This was my favorite album after the White Album! Amazing and interesting stuff. I love Baby You're a Rich Man.... what an amazing tune. I am the Walrus was great too.
everything Beatle is so fascinating--thanks
Nice one. You bring all this stuff to life. And it's fascinating.
Somehow, it all seemed to matter, twenty five years ago.
Now the world seems more disastrously planned and dafter than The Magical Mystery Tour.
Perhaps (as per memories of the Manson family) the rot really started with Haight-Ashbury.
(Well, perhaps the Reagan era was the moment politics moved from paranoia to Hollywood parody; or the installation of a booze crazed alcoholic gangster in the Kremlin; or his replacement with a kung-fu practicing KGB/FSB mini-me. Certainly, from the time neo-cons decided to respond to 911 terror with a Wall St financial boom predicated on internal deployment of Israeli securitech and the illegal invasion of Iraq, the West had little reputation left to scupper. Welcome to the wonderful world of Trump.)
The LP yielded some good songs
"Rubber soul was our pot lp .Revolver and pepper was our Acid albums "-paul McCartney 2004 uncut or mojo mag, more like Q mag I carnt definitely remember but it was a good well informed piece and interview.
Fuck! In '67 the lads put out singles Penny Lane/Strawberry acid forever, Peppers album, MagMistTour; album & movie, recorded all the songs for the next Yellow Submariner album & movie, did the first world concert via 'satellites'?!, while George became enlightened, John became endowed with chemicals, Paul became emblematic at the steering wheel, and Ringo was envisioning it all from behind a set of Ludwigs.
Love that Album 💯💯
I had the two picture EPs of the Magical mystery tour many moons ago. Then I gave them away silly me.
The Beatles were instrumental in my emerging career as a musician.
and millions of others...
… and my submerged career.
The sax fit perfect
Hey Bulldog is one of my favorites.
Along with Revolver, MMT was one of my top two favorite Beatles albums.
Why does this album not get talked about as much as "Peppers",Revolver,"Soul",White Album?
Just as good❤
Great video
I love these video reviews on this channel. So many facts but this channel makes them sound tragic haha! Hey! It’s rock and roll. Even when The Beatles do wrong it’s later becomes brilliant
I can remember being disappointed as a youth that the MMT movie did not ever get shown in the US. The reason stated back then was that it costed too much
This has been my favorite Beatles album since I was a kid.
Agreed, I love all their albums but this one is truly magical for me.
So funny.
MM Tour is great.
Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields, Walrus, Fool on The Hill are amazing
@rizlahillofficial maybe if they bunged them on Pepper it would my fave Beet-leez album and took off the oh so earnest W You Without You
@@loontil I'd remove "Lovely Rita" and "When I'm Sixty-Four" instead. "Sixty-Four" is just McCartney attempting to write something Frank Sinatra would sing.
"Within You Without You" is the best song on the album. John Lennon expressed his admiration for the song. George had no use for Paul's Pepper concept at all. People call it the Beatles' best album, but Revolver was much better.
@@sd31263 For you. As a musician I can point out loads of clever things in Lovely Rita. Revolver is just different not better, for me. For me it's a bit of a studenty cliche to say Revolver is "the best" Beet-leez Album.
Yellow Submarine is a brilliant movie
For The Beatles to produce 13 albums in 8yrs is a musically creative miracle. So they went a bit over time compared to their usual standard is still way ahead what other bands could do.To stifle their creativity by complaining of their drug use, who’s working for who? Take away all drug & alcohol use from ‘60’s bands and you won’t have much music.
Excellent Video. You are a great Beatles historian and your documentation is for the ages...
It's a fantastic album, loved it as a young teen back then, perfectly fit the times. This video makes it all sound like doomsday .. you couldn't have actually been there.
Great video! Keep it up 👍
