Fear not one will come, it's been high on my to-do list for a long long time but I want CIG to give us more on the Corsair than just the announcement materials before I do.
I hope that we can buy hull material in canisters from shops, we can sell it to other players and we can stockpile it aboard the ship to make battlefield repairs. I’m loving the direction that SC is taking, with real world solutions needed for in-verse problems. I just hope we can get a few more ‘physical’ repair tools, rather than a magic beam to do ALL the manual moving, healing, hull stripping and repairs. Welders and cutting laser beams I can get, but the multitool is too much like a magic wand right now. Star Citizen needs more wrenches and grinders and less place holders for manual handling jobs.
The four trash truck example is really interesting. After I started thinking about this, I began watching industrial rigs and long haul trucks on the road looking for similar makes and models, and began to notice common models are a lot more general than I expected. Makes me feel better about there being only one Mole, and one prospector today, though I would love to see other brands cover the same space. I.e. Misc with a parallel mid sized ship to the Mole / could even be same base mechanics like garabage truck, but different styling and use of materials. Obviously with the number of prios on CIG's plate, I realize only the core models make sense. It's fun to dream though.
I can see CIG releasing a wheeled vehicle that offers a smaller form of salvage too. The Liberator offers the perfect "home" ship to build your operation around.
I can too - but I just don't see how that will be especially valuable. The wheeled mining options are good for caves with material buried deep but wreckage is typically not buried in a cave
The roc ds does need something to set it apart from the roc... maybe give it an upgrade like an extra mining arm for the driver and add a salvage tool to the "turret" seat. It should be like the swiss army knife of utility ground vehicles, as it stands theres really no reason to ever get one, better off just renting 2 rocs for multiplayer mining ops. Salvage tools should work 2 way, as in salvage mode, and repair mode, itd make all the salvage ships more viable and almost necessary for fleet operations.
Thanks @Leadnap! I am maintaining my intended track to acquire both a Corsair and a Vulture! As someone else commented I look forward to your perspectives on the Corsair! Appreciate your insights and continued great content!
A MISC competitor to the Reclaimer would be very interesting, especially if they can combine salvaging and repairing into one large ship like combining mining and refining fuel for the Odyssey.
That would be interesting for sure. Doesn't give you a "game loop" advantage over other ships but does give you major advantages in actual game play. Solid idea
I'm vaiting for the Vulture to be finally out and to get my hands on it. What you say about solo exploration with a purpose role for that one really seems like my cup of tea.
Nice to know we won't be the only ones thinking of vertical integrating as much as possible. PTCs salvaging will feed into our repair/resupply atm and our mining tieing into base building. If there's a chance to vertically integrate and minimise overhead or thinning of margins it a good idea to take advantage of it.
You make some valid points. I for one have been a fan of the Vulcan and its future game loop since it was first announced. I also have a Vulture and am disappointed with the prospect of Tier 1 salvage being the laser-gizmo handwavium CIG promised it wouldn't be, but I'm hopeful for future salvage aspects like component and weapon/ammo recovery, fuel extraction (maybe?), and anything else they can add.
Argo to go with my Mole and second with misc. I love both of their industrial ships and have my raft with an upgrade to an expanse. Love the way the raft looks but I need that refinery ship
Expanse is not a refinery ship. It has an onboard refinery yes, however that refinery is only a direct lone to it own fail tanks NO sellable cargo. The only refinery ships currently are the Starfarer, and the Orion which will generate cargo freight for sale or trade.
@@silus73 Take a look at the QA-post of the MISC-Expanse on Robertspace industries, and you will see that it is a refinery ship, designed to operate together with the Mole and Prospectors, are you sure you are not thinking about the Odyssey? Both the Starfarer and the Expanse will have refineries, Odyssey will have a refinery, but it will only be used to make its own fuel to extend its range.
I think the Vulture with a duo of combat or exploration small craft stationed on a Liberator is literally the most effective use for it. I'd love one to fit in a BMM, but I doubt that's going to happen.
I wonder if a medium salvage ship might slip in. That being said, I agree with you here. I think there might be a Constellation Salvage that is built on the Taurus frame. The lower turret could tractor into the convenient cargo bay. The rear section would utilize the snub dock of the other Connies and the snub would include a cutter beam. Two to three-man operation.
not certain you are right. Thinking about the 9tails lockdown the combat will move from scan point to scan point with ship debris left behind. I can see SRVs being used to haul away larger chunks to a more secure area to process and maybe search and rescue showing up which might bring its own conflict with salvagers. So, I do think there can be an opportunity for salvagers to work after a large-scale combat...but, how safe would be another question.
I want to see an alien manufacturer make a medium salvage ship. I think it'd be interesting to have that so we can see something alien outside of cargo and combat.
Would like to see a MISC offering, a branch between vulture and reclaimer. Something vaguely freelancerish, filling a midsize segment. Most, but not all, of the capabilities of the reclaimer without as much storage/staying power/defenses, but also cheaper and easier to fly.
To be honest, rather than a Reclaimer competitor, I'd like to see a very small ship which can pick components off wrecks and put them in a transport ship/large container.
If there were a swapable salvage head you could put on an existing ship to not make the whole process so black and white I might consider it. just flying around in a near defenseless ship doesn't seem like it will ever end well.
Consolidated Outlands could definitely use some more ships for their roster. I don't consider all the variations of the Mustang as separate ships. My suggestion would be for C.O. to throw their hat in on a Vulture competitor. Very much so looking forward to Salvaging!
I see myself leaning towards having multiple entry level industrial options. The dream would be a person carrier with a Prospector, Vulture, ROC, Expanse. The Liberator won't carry all these but I have one (via CCU) to see what I can do with her, not wanting to get a Kraken but we will see what happens.
MISC should make a salvage ship, just because I hate being able to see what’s going on outside the front window, and MISC shields me from seeing too much.
I enjoy your "Building the Best xxxx fleet" videos. It would be nice if there were more medium sized ships for 1-2 players, so I hope there is a ship between the Vulture and Reclaimer.
Probably pretty similar I would think, though in this case you would be limited to scraping with a hand tool which probably doesn't generate the most valuable materials. Eve you could salvage all sorts of components out which brought more value
I think you'll find that the vulture will be able to hull munch small fighters, its whats on the long arms...... It will just do it differently to the reclaimer, sure the reclaimer can process more and bigger ships but dont for one second think the vulture will be limited to just hull scraping. Also the Vulture will be able to salvage those bigger components just as a reclaimer will, it just cant carry as much per mission but with another player running a transport it bet it could give the bigger crews a run for its money.
If I was ever looking for a Reclaimer competitor I'd go with Argo. But I'm not. 😏 My Mercury Star Runner will be my salvage ship. Find a wreck, set up a data transfer (yeah, I'm living under the assumption that data siphon will be a thing for the Mercury), pull the components, loot the lootables, and head back to base to sell up. Maybe there will be time for a crewman to hull scrape with hand tools while something else is in progress, maybe not. I'm thinking of extracting some high value contents and just leaving the rest of the carcass to the Vultures.
Will we be able to eventually pull intact components? I'd love as a bounty hunter to see if I can pull a few intact weapons, coolers, or other parts after downing my target.
Yea it's the "new" Drake look (the idea that older Drake is more utilitarian and are older designs, while the "new" is well... new). Should expect to see more of that in the Corsair I imagine
You won't be able to modify the heads probably, but an in game purchase is certainly a solid route. Unless this is your dream ship it really isn't a money spender IRL to me.
I have a vulture to test out the profession, but honestly I don't think it will be that great. Argo would have been a better choice to make a salvage ship...
If weve got drones that can repair ships on their own, stacking and storing salvage crates (and loading/unloading cargo) should be an automated process. Being the crate guy on a reclaimer will be one of the most mind numbingly boring activities in the verse.
Another great video. I’d love to see a video on your views about the Drake Corsair. Especially with its release being so soon

Glad I could help! Thanks!
The salvage game loop looks really fun so far! It seems like mining but without the “oops you overshot now get 360 no scoped by a rock” aspect.

Would love to see an Argo salvage ship. They have a great industrial feel and the raft has one of the best interiors in game.
I hope that the hull material can be handed over to the Crucible for repair activities without any market intermediary.
I imagine you'll need to move the boxes like they showed with the Freelancer, but to the cargo grid on the Vulkan and other repair ships.

I guess the thing about it from my perspective is the Reclaimer can easily be that 2-3 player ship.
Of course we all want a salvage ship from Argo.
I need my shiny white origin salvage ship where I can control the salvage arm while in the hot tub. All jokes aside, a misc one would probably be cool
I made quite a lot of money in EVE Online by doing a combat mission, and then salvaging the wrecks I left behind. Wonder how this will work out in SC.

I'll admit I have my doubts, pretty confident the Vulture will scrape only but we'll see.
I would definitely enjoy some form of EVA salvaging that's not quite worthless. It feels as though there are almost no reasons to EVA as of now.

Argo. Industrial competitors should always be Argo!
Argo should have a mining ship and salvage ship or even an alien salvage ship would be cool as well
what should have said is a one mining ship
I have a reclaimer to salvage the goods. and a Saber/Retaliator to "create the salvage"
Will we be able to eventually pull intact components? I'd love as a bounty hunter to see if I can pull a few intact weapons, coolers, or other parts after downing my target.
If all goes as CIG has said, should be.
I just… have to get the Reclaimer now… this has gone past an addiction now haha
definitely Argo salvage ship
Im still waiting for a day where i will dive into salvaging gameplay xD
The vulture looks more like an argo ship than a Drake ship
