Best to mix the 2 together in a gravity type feeder, that way the weather wont ruin it. I mix corn,Big tine protein+, BB2,and record rack golden nuggets. I started feeding last October and plan to feed thru March or Spring green up. Glad i did it this winter, ice storm then snow and stayed on the ground for 10 days, not normal weather or temps for Kentucky. The deer would paw up the dirt and eat it under the feeder, thats the BB2 their after. BB2 is good stuff but it is expensive. I've also mixed in some sun flower seeds, peanuts, granola,Peanut butter, and honey with some BB2,it is hard to mix up but they love it.
I can say without a doubt I've had much better luck with sweet feed than with big and J. Lot of times if I've got a feeder that's covered I'll put the pelletized producers pride sweet feed in it mix it with a little corn and the deer will hammer it. I put big and j out several times and it molded on the ground.
Just get you a free choice feeder and fill it with sweet feed pellets in the winter when they really need the supplement feeding. That way when they start growing antlers they next year their bodies will already be in good shape instead of trying to play catch up when spring green up comes around. That’s all we do and we have the county record for the largest buck killed with a bow and it was on our place and we had pictures of him eating the sweet feed every winter (end of OCT-March) they consume about 300-400lbs a month. So $250/yr in feed that’s way better than corn for them and around the same price and it’s produces bigger deer.
B&J is more palatable because of the protein (& fat) content. Bucks needs protein to grow their antlers - they are made of a mesh of cells (made of pretin, fat, body fluid) compactly filled with calcium. They're bone. For the does, they're putting on weight to build babies and overwinter or want to recover from winter with young suckling depending on the season. Any digestable protein & fat booster combo is going to draw in animals. (After a day out in the cold doing hard work wpuld U rather eat a fresh brownie or a steak?) Sweet feed is like a slimfast brownie... sounds good, has vitamins, and it gets old after a few (U can eat like 3 in one sitting but then U don't really want to do it again, because it doesn't really satisfy). B&J is like a high quality trail mix with jerky... its not much of a contest when it comes to a ration, esp as a treat to attract animals. Good luck! U could also mix soy protein or plain soy or another protein dense herbi food/grain with any food oil/fat (vegetable oil, coconut oil, other food oils, maybe suet/lard - deer eat antlers, so they might eat animal fat), 2/3 protein component, 1/3 fat or slightly less, and then mix that in with either something like whole corn (not cracked) or the sweet feed or both... could try something like say 1/3 the oil & protein mixture, 1/3 corn, 1/3 sweet feed. Something like that - do Ur research for more appropriate ratios. People recommend oil for hard keeper horses - as long as the amounts aren't in excess to mess with their ruminant system, the deer should like it a lot - every animal can digest fat well. Just make sure the amount Ur giving isn't so high it causes deer indigestion, basically. This or anything can be fed as a hot mash, which will really spread the smell far - heat up some water, throw the pellet and/or soy in a bucket to soak anf absorb the oil while heating the water to *near* boiling, then throw everything in the hot water (only use enough to puff up the grain mix, not enough to make a stew - though in the dead of winter they might actually want a stew so long as it stays warm and liquid). Warm mash would probably bring in deer for miles. Anyway, good luck! How delicious was it? 😂😂
They might have gone for the Big&J because the Sweet feed was so much more moldy. They know not to eat it. You did a good experiment but it was flawed because of the mold. Who knows, they might have all gone for the Sweet Feed if the mold weren't there. The only thing to do would be to repeat the experiment and hope for seven days without rain.
honestly i think this may have been a school experiment he sounded like he was trying to address scientific method a lot like maybe he was forced to do this
I put the Sweet feed in my tripod feeder and mix it in with corn to help put a sweet smell out there and it brings in the deer decently well.
Enjoyed the test! I'm in the cheap side too! Sweet Feed !

Bigger bang when you mix the two works perfectly in Canada
I appreciate the work. Thanks
Could make a PVC feeder so it doesn’t mold as fast. Price per pound, for a quicker attraction, I’m going with the sweet feed.

I mix sweet feed and corn coat and run it through my tripod. Works great. Probably the best out there
Sweet feeds needs to put in a trough type feeder with a cover or roof. Easy to make.
Tryed b&j 3 times. They still go straight to my corn & pass right over the b&j.

Vesta Hall this really good information thank you so much!
Watch the weather and put smaller amount of sweet feed more often
Not sure where u tried test .tried big @ j in western Maryland did not work at all
damn man if u fart u r gonna blow those boots off, or at the very least bust those pants wide open ROFLMFAO!! good review though

Quit using picture mode.If your game cameras have video mode ,use it and tell the whole and real story.
Tried the over priced B&J, deer walk right by it going to my corn feeder.
You could have reduce the length of that video from about 12 minutes to about 45 seconds
honestly i think this may have been a school experiment he sounded like he was trying to address scientific method a lot like maybe he was forced to do this
smokysantana A magician could go threw every trick they know in ten minutes too, i liked the reveal blow by blow.
The big and j is mostly corn.
BB2 is 20% protein. Corn is 8% protein.
dk where you been geten yours mine has what look's like soy and distillers gain far more than corn.
You're not racist at all are you here big & J Big & J Big & J he must be a friend of theirs pushing their sales
