Max, in all honesty you’re one of the best dudes for advanced Octatrack tutorials. I don’t have your depth of understanding with this machine but I appreciate your videos and find them inspiring. Thanks man.
this was one of the "etudes" or exercises that maybe not lead to quick solutions ,BUT give deeper understanding and sequencing skills ... it helped me to think "octatrack"
slicing is one of the most powerful features on the OT, but it is a bit cumbersome to manually slice a file so I don't tend to use it as much as I'd like. I believe Octachainer is out there for combining one-shots and creating the slice data at the same time, but for slicing an existing file outside of OT I think maybe only Octaedit? Have been patiently waiting for new Octaedit to come out :) :) :)
Great stuff Marco, I’m finally moving on from the OT basics, no easy task, and starting to understand and implement “the almighty” LFO’s. This was super helpful. I remember watching this same tutorial early on in my OT experience and being completely lost, now I can actually follow and understand. Thanks!
thanks Howard! a lot of my videos are aimed at users that have a decent grasp on standard operations but maybe aren't sure how to get to the 'next level' - basically the kind of Octatrack videos I wanted to see after I had been using it for a few months
@@maxmarco so true now that I’m ready, I can’t enough of “beginning advanced” type of vids. Although I’m starting to also realize, you need to just experiment and learn that way.
@@maxmarco so true...I’m also realizing that you have to just experiment and put in your time and not get discouraged. long breaks from using the OT will also thwart progress.
This is a really interesting technique. I like how it combines with existing conditional triggers and is flexible to work with p-locks and the fader. You could send the "clicks" to the machine drum using the cue output and setup the machine drum inputs as gated triggers. That way you can use a prepared chopped sample of 8 impulses and 8 empty slices and trigger whatever sound you like on the MD. I'm going to give this a try myself.
oooooh that's some really good thinking - hadn't thought to use this to send triggers!! thanks for sharing! Does using the gate inputs to trigger sounds disable p-locks the same way as using external MIDI? I haven't explored the trigger in feature much yet although it's been on my (rather long) list :D
I was revisitng this awesome tutorial cus I was wondering if there could be a workaround for modulating or "recording" the changes of the LFO main page parameters, but I can only think of switching parts with different lfo settings of the same flex machine. By any chance ¿have you think of an alternative for doing this? Hope you are doing well man, all the best!
thanks a lot! I think this is one of those 'simple' things that's easy to overlook or think it is not that special, but it can be incredibly powerful and useful
Very clever techniques discussed here! You translate this knowledge from the Machinedrum I take it? Anyway it's a useful technique to apply in any Elektron machines..
thank you! yes, exactly! these techniques really are quite generic, and can be applied in any sufficiently equipped modular system and many of the Elektrons. I am currently working on a video for Machinedrum exploring some similar approaches and a few other things also, but I've had an Octatrack for a lot longer than my Machinedrum. I actually borrowed my buddy's MDUW a bit more than 4 years ago and I realized it was perfect to go with my modular stuff, but then I learned about the Octatrack, gave my buddy back his MDUW and spent a bunch of time learning the OT in and out - but I always remembered the MDUW fondly and eventually had to get my own :)

So true. Miss him a lot.
What a cool idea! Love the background music too.

Wow! Great work Max.
Very helpful, i'm learning a lot more about my Octatrack since I see your videos!
This is great ! Rewatching and taking notes

Amazing technique, thanks!

I suspect they will work similar to external midi triggers. I will investigate :)
Looks good to me. Interesting video. Thanks!
thanks much! I might tone it down slightly in future octatrack info vids but I do quite like it at a rather high contrast

Absolutely cool stuff. Thank you for this.

Thanks so much. Awesome info
my pleasure, thanks for watching!

Did I make the screen too blue? Maybe I went a little too saturated and high contrast... let me know what you think!
I dunno look nice at least.
cool, thanks! will keep a similar style in the future
Looks perfectly fine. Great videos
I am toning it down slightly now, but only a bit :) main goal is good contrast, but easy on the eyes
i love max and i wish he would come back but i have noticed that he uses a lot of british colloquialisms. like "maths" and "bits"
I call this one ‘TYPEWRITER 2’
Now if only there was a hack for clock modulation on the OT. Can't do really interesting generative music while on the grid, IMO.
Muffuggun awsome
