1996 Track World Championships at Manchester. Individual Pursuit Final: Chris Boardman vs Andrea Collinelli. Commentary by David Duffield and Russell Williams.
Barnstorming, jaw-dropping performance from Chris Boardman. Collinelli had an astounding first km, but faded under the solar brilliance of Boardman, a combination of relentless training, nutrition, careful pacing, and equipment. A detailed binding of all the essential elements. This is where modern cycling began. It's lovely to hear of Graeme Obree, and the influence he had on position.
@@skyjuiceification As Boardman has acknowledged. Boardman and his team were inclined to do established thinking better. Obree challenged everyone to think beyond that. Boardman and British Cycling then adopted Obree's model - on the track. On the road, British Cycling remained in a dead end for a few more years despite Nicole Cooke's efforts or, even, to spite her
GRAZIE FILIPPO 🚲✈🏁 ❤
at 5:33 you see that Collinell is leaving the aggresive position and grabbing the bars shorter. Whilst the incredible Boardman was disciplinned. And that is how he has won this awesome race.
As someone who’s new to cycling I can’t help but notice how similar those old bikes look to the Ventum & Cadex Tri bikes. I really wish someone would compare one of the old ones to the modern ones
There's an interesting video of Graham Obree in a wind tunnel on his old bike with the under-chest handlebar position vs a newer bike. It shows how good an athlete and engineer he was ruclips.net/video/oJ9H0INZ2_s/видео.html
@@Penguin_of_Death Just finished watching. That was a truly great educational video & your right it shows he was a good athlete & engineer. However I would still like to see a direct comparison of one of those old Pinarello/Specialized TT bikes to a modern Ventum/Cadex

Dont know why the UCI banned the riding position. Surely the point is to ride the bike as fast as possible which meant superman position. Its not like people were crashing or anything from it.
I was heavily involved in the technical side of cycling in the mid-90s and I can tell you that it was very frustrating at times. You never knew which innovations would be allowed and which wouldn't. And, if they were allowed, you never knew how long it would be before they would be banned.
Watching this after 26 years
Chris Boardman was my Idol in the 90s when I was cycling and he still is

Its where modern cycling for Brits began. The Aussies had been doing it for 12 years before this.
Superb Chris Boardman.. Thank you Mike Burrows…RIP…
I’m so happy. I’ve been trying to get some of dads (Russell Williams) old commentary on Eurosport!!!
I hope your dad is keeping well.
@@leejoliver thanks mate. did you know my father?
@@joshuawilliams9520 not very well but rode with him a little on the road in local leagues - we were both over 40 but I wasn’t the same class
Amazing. Boardman and co really did lay the foundation for the Olympic success in the track. What a genius.
By copying Obree.
I have a Boardman road bike. Can't believe how famous he was during his time
Boardman, the genesis of British cycling success at world class level.
nothing without what Graeme Obree did for him.

Love me some Boardman.
David. You are a star 🌟
Chris is a King!!!!
I loved the era of varying bike tech and styles. Such interesting stuff and ideas were tried.

he already rode 5 last laps quicker, it was done and dusted way before that point
His technique was lousy.
Thanks for uploading! Long shot, but you don't know where I could find footage of the Madison from the '96 worlds do you?
Wonderful Ability > such Skill !!
I want EPO
I searched for Chris Broad Cycling and it brought me here. Well, I can't say I'm disappointed.

4 minutes of burning hell
This helmet inspired Star Wars movies
How far is this?
4km
The superman
Was this before or after the Olympics?
Both
What was his speed?
57.3kmh
I honestly thought this record was unbeatable at the time.

i think it just looked ugly.
Oh, does THIS piss you off? Let's talk about puppy paws.

On the flip side, if there were no regulation we’d all be watching bubbles go around the track because the riders all adopted fully faired recumbents
@@jimhize No argument there, I was just looking for some degree of consistency and logic in their rulings.

Actually he didn't

Wow! You're lucky to be alive!! Are you trippin'?
Mid-late 90's, probs a lot of EPO but not everything.
Duh
Everyone should be on steroids, only way to have a fair competition
Just eat beans and put a match to the afterburners
boringgggg....
what a Boring Pursuit
As opposed to the usual action packed pursuits
Not as boring as your original comment 🙄
