Just heard this song for the first time in the car today. I had 1974 flashbacks. Hard. I raced home to see what Zeppelin song it was that I was unfamiliar with. Glad to see people still producing music in this genre. Damn I miss the 70s. Rock on Greta Van Fleet.
long lost bro! By 1976, it was the three of us, you me and Led Zeppelin that killed disco! *my bf asked me to type this lol since he doesn't have a YT account lol*
Y’all act like having a new zeppelin is a bad thing, this band is a chance for the younger generations to appreciate rock and roll and still have the respect of the old metalheads
Idk my main issue is that they're barking up the wrong tree. They sound WAY too similar to Led Zeppelin, but then you see the differences in the substance of the song. These play more like pop songs. I wouldn't mind them sounding like Zeppelin if they had better musicianship and a singer that wasn't the reincarnation of Robert Plant, but ultimately it comes off to me as a watered down zeppelin
Kids can still appreciate rock by listening to Led Zeppelin. If they like Greta Van Fleet, then there's no reason for them to not Led Zeppelin. Besides, the only people listening to this band are the older folks. GVF isn't breaking any grounds here, nor or they going to "save rock".
@@GibsonGuy0707 Nonsense. Go to their concerts. What a moronic ignorant comment. plenty of 20-30 year olds there. That is the thing, nobody will listen to Led Zeppelin anymore without bands that are inspired by them. Hardly any radio stations play their music and those stations that do, do not have a large audience. Look up the top streaming songs. Look up any charts. GVF does not have to break new musical ground, but they need to break the wall to the new generation of musicians that DO NOT go to LZ for inspiration. You would be surprised that most of the newer bands DO NOT. Listen to the interviews for GVF and you can tell they have deep group of inspirations including the mainstream LZ, but more intricate than just mainstream.

I am 56 and I woke up for work this morning with the highway song buzzing in my head from the night before, funny how music can do that, I think the most notable trait of these young guys and their music is their ability to rekindle a long dwindled adrenal rush music used to give me. Consider I lived through the British invasion and listened to the birth and development of the biggest bands ever to blaze trails into all our lives. What is cool is that Led Zeppelin rose to fame at a time when the world was ready for them and they were not hindered with familiarity and saturation of the genera they would eventually posses , in other words they were not hindered by some of the hurdles GVF has had to overcome , all this music has been done before and done to death for decades , the fact that these guys are catching on so quickly despite that, is testament to just how talented they are , the cohesiveness of their sound the lyrics melodies tempo timing beat inflections and blazing stunningly unique vocals by Josh are what make GVF able to bulldoze through a jaded audience deadened by decades of musical mediocrity and ignite the excitement in people garnishing reactions such as the ones on this blog, to simply say as some have that GVF is reminiscent of Led Zeppelin and that is their appeal is crushingly marginalizing , listen to the acoustic version of Black Smoke Rising, Edge of Darkness these are genuinely masterful songwriters singers and musicians. These guys are on fire and I can’t wait to hear what comes next. I still remember how it felt when I got my first Zeppelin, Stones , Floyd LP and so many other monster talents, the only reason I can remember , and I am being completely sincere in saying this , is that after listening to this entire track From The Fires , for the first time in decades I felt it again I want to have all my friends over and crank this cool new album buy this new band Greta Van Fleet in its unstoppable infancy and we will all play air guitar and get buzzed laugh and not give a fuck about anything because the music is doing the talking and pulled us all out of our heads to let us live in the moment, that's some serious spiritual currency . Peace Everybody,,,,,, Darren.
I was at an album artwork shop in the markets of Melbourne. I was looking for zeppelin covers when the store owner said "you like zep huh? listen to Led Zeps new song" then played highway tune* and my jaw dropped... as he told me it was some kids from Michigan. I bought the zep album cover but he wrote the band name on the back. Best 10 dollars I ever spent, to get the name of GVF
Darren! I purposely signed into my Google account to just say, "Yeah, man. Agreed. One-hundred percent." I had the privilege of interviewing GVF last month at FloydFest, already well aware of their talent and presence. Incredibly smart and perceptive folks. Not kidding. They blew the doors off that festival. As someone who has attended thousands (1,000s) and thousands of rock shows, that GVF FloydFest show entered my "Top 10." The head they carry on their shoulders will serve them well as this road gets wilder and more haphazard, in terms of people, places and things expecting more and more from them and such. As a longtime rock journalist, I was blown away by their sincerity and well thought out nature of self and purpose. That said, yeah, I loved your statement. Kudos. Cheers from Carolina. Much love, y'all.

It's pretty good, but to me the standout elements are elsewhere. Jake is a really good guitarist but his solos have been pretty forgettable IMO. It's not that they are bad, they just don't stick in my memory. The riffs and the chords and the drums and the bass... yeah, all those things are really well done. Solos? Still need some shaping up before they're up to snuff. JMO. And I absolutely love this band, and Jake. I totally expect he's going to be one of the best ever.
I took my teenage daughters to see these guys play a few weeks ago, they are even better live. Great interaction with the crowd, hammering and creative solos, best show I've been to in years.

we are living in a time where nearly every mainstream artist sounds the same, and you guys are really gonna complain that these guys sound like Led Zeppelin?
Yes, because there are so many cringe people in the comment section who think this music is going to bring back rock when it is not. That would involve actually adding their own twist on the sound, instead of blatantly ripping off LZ. It's good for old dad rockers, at best, but it is nothing revolutionary.

This band brings me so much happiness. It’s so sad to see the hate towards them. First people are like, “why can’t there be bands like Led Zeppelin anymore?” Now that there is a band that is obviously inspired by them and is trying to bring this awesome style to more listeners, people say “they are copy cats and unoriginal.” He has been blessed with a stellar voice and this band is incredible.
Exactly since when did “they sound like Zeppelin” become an insult? I hear many other blues and rock influences in their music. Just because his vocals are similar to Robert Plant doesn’t mean they’re unoriginal. People said the same of Geddy Lee before rush came up big. These guys are creating their own music and it is beautiful music without a doubt. People just look for things to complain about. I pity those who deprive themselves of this amazing music because they refuse to open their minds and accept that these guys have talent and we’re lucky to have the chance to see where their music takes them. I for one can’t wait and I’m certain I’m far from alone. Rock n roll never died it’s just become less mainstream, but I think that Greta Van Fleet is helping to change that. And for that, we should all be grateful.
Saw them play in Detroit last night. Never have I seen musicians today with such raw talent, just jamming out and having fun like them! I left so mesmerized and blown away and can't get their songs out my head! I feel lucky to have gotten to see these guys, so young and early, before the world swoops them up. I was too young for Led Zeppelin in their hey day, but I am happy to say I've got a band like Greta Van Fleet to add to my life's soundtrack. Maybe kids will grow some brains and will ushur in a new wave of music.
Seriously..... Fu**** holy at last. Rock that blows my socks right off..... Bands like this come along once and awhile. Just enjoy the ride people.. They're gonna be huge. All of my favourite bands rolled into one. And I'm loving every minute of it!!!!!!
This band went back in time and grabbed the 70s vibes and that mystical feeling you only find in the air that feeling of uphoria and carefree feeling and somehow captured the essence of that magical moment and bestowed it upon the world once more... Blown away is an understatement. I'm in the galaxy that time forgot and am grateful for Greta van fleet
EK2112 hey dumbfuck. they have an album out, an EP, this single and more. they've been writing like 6 years, so no, dick meat, the have more than five songs, saw em a few weeks ago at the Agora, fucking amazing show, as well.
MindFull They weren't an overwhelming influence? They might as well be a tribute act. The singer couldn't be trying any harder to sound like Robert Plant. Literally everything about this band is lifted directly from Led Zeppelin.
so happy this band exists!! I get people who complain about them "stealing" Led Zepplins sound and yes they actually don't bring anything new to the music industry. BUT, for us younger people who never got the chance to see bands as Led Zepplin (in their younger years) these guys almost fulfills that dream. I mean it is very rare to see people in my age making great music.
If you listen to Plant's vocals and Page's play, you'll see that there is no comparison. Listen to Zepp. This kid just screeches up and down, he doesn't try to control his voice at all. This is an improvement over their other songs, I must admit. Without a comparison to Zepp and just other music in general, they are mediocre.
How can you say he’s not bringing anything new to the music industry. His voice is definitely similar to Robert Plant, but their music is still entirely different
That's a bit unfair, what you're saying. This guy from GVF has a very different style than Plant, obviously. Hell, maybe Safari Song was when he came closest to Plant, but since then I haven't ever thought that way. This guy plays a lot more with highs and lows, and it's pretty distinctive, like you said, the screech, or whatever. Like the poster above you said, he might have the same-y voice sometimes, the music they are making is not the same. The style is different, sometimes radically so. Saying other people have "untrained" ears because they disagree with your opinion is incredibly rude. And I am against the opinion that they aren't bringing anything new. They are bringing themselves. They are new, now let them have their shot and don't call them mediocre, like it's a fact, when they are a very welcome refresher from years of rock being very, very bland. Disagree if you will, but I'm glad they're around.
Mostly what I meant was that these guys haven't created a "new genre" like we have heard this before, which I believe everyone can tell if they don't have untrained ears.. But I never said that there was anything wrong with that. Neither that I personally thought that he sounded like Plant.. In fact I really appreciate this band.
The thing about Josh is that sometimes he sounds like Robert Plant, yes, but if you know all of their music at times he sounds like Geddy Lee of Rush, Ronnie James Dio, and even Janis Joplin at times.... it's like he's meshed all the most amazing singers together and he's just 'him'..... love this band!
yes of course, but all of the artists that you mentioned also happen to sound like someone else (the people that inspired them), there is no parthenogenesis (creation of something totally new and different from everything else) in all forms of art.
its pretty infuriating seeing people say they are a copy of led zep. what they dont understand is how well they GVF mastered the code of oldschool rock and what makes it good. also lead singer has amazing vocal capacity and its awesome how well he actually utilise it.
I truly want to take my daughter to see them live. She talks about this band all day and now I really love their songs. Hard trying to afford much but if they come to the Detroit area I really want to take her to see them
Me and my dad never really got along well. BUT Music was our common bond. I just show'd him this band last night. And it was like seeing him light up like a Christmas tree. Me and him both hammer on old guitars and jam. IT was cool as hell to see him see a young awesome newer band that we can bond over.

Fiona Hardin i just rewatched the entire series 😃 and now im sad its over again 😭 But your right these guys would definately have a place in THE CIRCLE 👌
Can we just accept the fact that this band is amazingly great and bringing generations together to enjoy their music? They're in their early 20's, which will appeal to the younger generations (and will maybe even lead them to checking out and appreciating older rock bands), but their sound appeals to the older folks who grew up with Zeppelin and other bands in the 60s/70s/80s. This is something that not a lot of artists (if any) are able to do these days.
Well they'll have a solid 20 year run if most of their fan base is still alive by then. I'm not hating cause I'm getting old myself but if you go to their social media page you'll see that the majority of fans are in their mid 50's to 60's. To be relevant in the future GVF will have to change their style.

I am 67 and just found my new favorite rock band hope I live to see them live!!!
Just heard this song for the first time in the car today. I had 1974 flashbacks. Hard. I raced home to see what Zeppelin song it was that I was unfamiliar with. Glad to see people still producing music in this genre. Damn I miss the 70s. Rock on Greta Van Fleet.
pumpupthevolume yeah, first time I heard one of their songs on the radio ( I believe it was safari song) I thought zeppelin had put out a new album

They ain't no Led Zep tho....but they are good

@@biged680 moron
I agree

'Breath of fresh air'? They're derivative. They sound like a third-rate Led Zeppelin tribute band.
Best 10 dollars I ever spent, to get the name of GVF
darrengilles darrengilles fuckin well said!

It is like turn on the reel to reel and and play like it use to be..
I’m not complaining they sound like Zeplin !! What a compliment!! That kid is good hell the whole band rocks !!!
so happy this band exists!!
Depends on what your (apparently) untrained ears call music. You listen to AC/DC knockoffs too? He couldn't sing either.

Fiona Hardin i just rewatched the entire series 😃 and now im sad its over again 😭
But your right these guys would definately have a place in THE CIRCLE 👌
Right!!
ofcourse they would
absolutely!!
They'll be in their 60s or late 50s
Can we just accept the fact that this band is amazingly great and bringing generations together to enjoy their music? They're in their early 20's, which will appeal to the younger generations (and will maybe even lead them to checking out and appreciating older rock bands), but their sound appeals to the older folks who grew up with Zeppelin and other bands in the 60s/70s/80s. This is something that not a lot of artists (if any) are able to do these days.
They have a solid 20 year future run in them if they keep their heads straight. They can own rock n roll.
agreed, they're music is bringing generations together to enjoy some great rock.
Cody Burkhardt most definitely
Well they'll have a solid 20 year run if most of their fan base is still alive by then. I'm not hating cause I'm getting old myself but if you go to their social media page you'll see that the majority of fans are in their mid 50's to 60's. To be relevant in the future GVF will have to change their style.
Um, no. They don't appeal to people that have a real appreciation for talent and any kind of musical background, comparison or no.
From France 💙🤍❤
The force is strong in this one.....
That's not how the force works!
Muhammad Eisa TELL THAT TO FLYING LEIA
Darth Maul watches from the clifftop...
@@tidepods1884 At last we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi, at last we will have revenge....
this band sounds like its too good to be true
Or it is God. And God is true.
@@milovico Fuck off with your religious bullshit.
@@philipmrch8326 oh. You're taking it serious.😂
Sorry man, I'm hearing Ghost and Slipknot.....
@@milovico Ghost is pretty good
We NEED to get this on trending.
@jacktheripped They're only #23 on the rock charts.
Have seen so where that they are No 1 on iTunes.
Can only buy it digitally
This guy sounds like a hybrid of Robert Plant and Bon Scott and I'm all here for it!!!
omg he does!
I think Led and Rush.
@@edsonbarbara7533 - I think the same.
With a dash of Geddy Lee!
@@daneen2fabulous - of course...Geddy Lee 😊
Can we get beyond who they sound like, and focus on what a great band they are?! They all know their instruments. They make awesome music.
Enough said...
Plenty of bands know their instruments even better (and can play far more) and make amazing music while having a completely unique sound. Look at king gizzard
@@albenmurcia4716
Well this guy might have a Robert Plant-esque voice...
But he does stuff with his voice the RP didn't do, obviously so 😉
These guys are AWESOME
@@sallygoodman5466 personally i dont think they are anything special. Better instrumentalists and singers out there imo. But to each their own
@Sally Goodman It isn’t just his voice though. Literally their entire sound is wrapped around Led Zeppelin. This is the best example of y rock is dead in the mainstream. There are 100s of new bands out there that are incorporating unique sounds into their music and what gets a bunch of mainstream attention? A band that literally sounds like a band from the 70s without any form of nuances or artistic integrity.
And unlike led zep, they write their own songs.
As a long time Zep fan.. THIS IS THE GREAT THING IN THE WORLD! Long Live the FLEET!
Or you could listen to zep and get the same exact sound, but better and with more originality.
@@FlyManChimera I've been listening to Zeppelin all my life. I know all the songs by heart. Just glad some new music is on the scene that is Zeppelin inspired. While some die hards will incorrectly see GVF as a knock off I find that they compliment Led Zeppelin very well and imitation is the highest form of flattery. The sounds of Zeppelin lives on and the torch has been past to the new generation. I was beginning to think Zeppelin style Rock was dead but not as long as Grete Van Fleet still lives.
thank god, music is still alive and kicking
Finally some actually good music, haven't heard any in years
Thanks guys
@Lady Cedar Try Ghost, Avenged Sevenfold, Alter Bridge, Wolfmother, Coheed And Cambria, The Sword and Rival Sons to name a few ;)
Check out Rival Sons, just saying.
Lady Cedar to be honest
Tyler Bryant and the shakedown are amazing too!
The essence of classic rock has returned
It’s been so long since I’ve heard a guitar solo in a mainstream song. Tears are welling up😭😭
+1
First heard them In 2017 on KSHE 95 and been a fan ever since. Great music.
it’s so nice to see a rock band these days!!
You should also check out Twisted Illusion and Ben Cote Band.
Don't Forget to Rock I will! The Warning is also really good!
in the Guitarist Jake's absence i have to add, "Rock N' Roll"****
Couldn't agree more! No lip-syncing vapid pop music to be heard here! Just real song writing, real vocals and real instruments! And about time
allysha 777 i agree with you totally
