The spaghetti and the other pasta products were gluten-free. Normally, 500g of spaghetti costs £0.9-1.5. You dont need to buy water in Norway - use tapwater - its free and actually cleaner.
When the lady said that in winter people go skiing at night and needs light, bear in mind (and this does vary quite a bit depending on your latitude), that at that place from November on, it would start getting dark from around 3.30 pm (later on earlier) and dawn won't start until 8.30 am (in mid December maybe as late as 10 am). Darkness can cover quite a large part of the day.
Another brilliant episode of your travels in Norway. Totally hooked on this series . You both are so natural, classy and addictive to watch. Thank you for allowing us ,to travel with you. Keep up the brilliant work , you really set a completely different standard, with your travelogues . Thank you Carol and Ken . 🇳🇴🏴🏴
Very nice vlog👍 It’s not only for skiing at night, in wintertime we only have about 6 hours daylight, so it gets dark quite early😊 You don’t have to buy water in Norway, just fill up bottles with tap water from anywhere👍
I will just say that I love Norway and its people. Travelled in spring, summer and winter and always had such a good time skiing, sailing and walking with the Trolls. Lovely people and amazing scenery both coastal and inland.
You actually drove past my house in this video. And I have previously worked at that exact Rema 1000 shop that you went to. So fun to see my local area through your camera! All the best!
Two things you’ve done on this trip that I really appreciate. One is the google earth images of where you are heading, two, putting prices in pounds, euros, and dollars. Great ideas and great video. Til the next one, Mary
Hello Ken and Carol. It was really lovely to meet you both earlier in your local town. It made my day. You are really an approachable couple. Love your vlogs. Thank you both very much
Greetings from Australia. My son lived in Oslo for about six years, so I’m loving this series. Fresh meat and alcohol are very expensive in Norway. Many locals jump over the border to Sweden where these items are much cheaper. REMA 1000 = REMA Tusen
But there is always something you need to be aware of. In Norway, the meat product does not contain fat - or water - perhaps 4- 10%. In other countries, it is normal with 29-36% fat and water and it is free and is thrown away here or becomes animal feed. Chicken is also not sprayed with salt water (this is clearly stated on the package and is often very cheap)
So lovely and peaceful there and plenty of changing scenery. Looks like you have the ongoing food quality as all of your other trips. Looking forward to the train journey.
So cool to see you in my home town at the end of the video! Vennesla. Keep working for the videos like this, I LOVE IT! You are more than welcome back!
A very interesting point (at least I think so!) is that the “Brun Lapskaus” (21:55) is translated as Brown Lobscouse, which is why we get the name for Liverpudlians (scousers) from their version called just “Scouse”. It was a generic sailing ship stew common all over the North Sea and beyond.
I grew up near the horse race venue at 3:09, and have run up the steep path at 5:40 way too many times wearing cross-country skiis and start number on my chest in my childhood. The ski track is shaped as a figure-eight so it easily can serve 1km, 2km, 3km and 5km competitions (depending on the kids age). At 8:00 you drove past the Sørlandschips factory, and you ended up buying Maarud crisps?!? If you liked the Møvik cannon museum, you should also know that during summertime you can take a tiny ferry from Høllen to Ny-Hellesund and visit the huge fortress there. It is being restored and well worth a visit.
4:23 - It is normal to have lit up paths in the woods here in Norway. And it is as you said to make is usable for everyone year round. The Norwegian name for it is "lysløype" or literally "light path/track". During winter we go to work before the sun rises, and go home after sunset, so we need lights for everything. 😀
"The only sound we were able to hear were our footsteps" - wonderful. It's so hard to find a place like that here in Germany! I'm so looking forward to exploring Norway, too, one day!

Lovely vlog Ken👊Carol😘 Last time I was in Norway was in the 90’s looking ( strangely ) at a Toner process unit for Photocopiers for my occupation trade 🤪 ! I never expected to find a travel vlog thats taking place in my local area, and find it so ammusing to recognize all the sceneries. I even started laughing when I saw the guy at the counter in the cannon museum, cuz it's a guy I know Hooe you guys had a brilliant trip
I think it is useful to know for non-Norwegians that grocery stores have budget brands(first price, Xtra, Prima, etc.) and they are usually good quality products in Norway. The main reason they are much cheaper is that it is little or no Ad budget for these brands, which makes them significantly cheaper to produce. The gap between the most expensive alternative and the cheapest one is bigger in Norway than in many other countries. So it's really a lot of money to be saved. Obviously your not always going to prefer the cheapest alternative, it's just mathematiclly unlikely, but choosing budget brands is a great money-saving tip for tourists in Norway.
Food can be cheap in Norway if you know where to look. Back when Covid was at its worst and work as a freelance musician was non-existent, I managed to eat quite well and healthy for less than 500 kroner (that's less than 50 pounds/euros/dollars) a month. That was a real challenge but an impossible one and quite interesting too - one of those things I'm happy to have tried once but would rather not do again. Food prices are a bit higher now though so I'm not sure if it's still possible.
@@LifeistooshortCK Also there is an app called "too good to go" that many stores use, they sell for half price or cheaper goods that they otherwise would have to trash after the day, like fresh baguettes and such. They then advertice these on this app so people can show up and buy cheaply. This is meant to combat foodwaste.

Hello 👋🏻 this is my first video that I watched from you I loved ❤ the phrase life is too short, that’s true. Nice 👍 video. Sending you good wishes from Las Vegas, Nevada 🇺🇸
Hi Carol and Ken fantastic episode I too have been to the guns and to the steam train a few yes ago. We love Kristiansand area as a former scout leader from where I live, they are twined with the 4th Kristiansand Scouts and every two years, they meet up either in this country or in Norway. My son is desperate to go as he is named after a former Scout in Kristiansand. We have many friends there. Look forward to see more. Joe and Ellie
Hi Joe. Great that you have that connection to the place. It’s a real shame we no longer have the direct ferry link but there are rumours a link is starting up from Scotland. 👍
As someone who likes history I found the museum interesting, your park up walk must help with your fitness level as going up and down adds to the burn. You were worried about sand getting into the van when you get a chance have a look at some off road mats unlike standard car mats they have a raised edge so any dust or liquid is kept in the mat not on the vehicles carpet sadly though you might struggle to find a set that fits the little red camper as my universal set is too big for my neighbours land rover but fit my 4x4 perfectly ( they are only slightly smaller than the footwell). Ken you might be able to find those heavy duty tyres you wanted
It's wonderful how clean the country is (apart from the cigarette but) considering it's difficult to find a rubbish bin. Just shows they have a different mind set. I must say it seems a very relaxing country. Talking of relaxing, 2 miles a day Ken? wow, tell you what, cut the crisp out, you could get away with a mile 🤣 Looking forward to next week 👍
Their roads are a delight to drive, especially if you are on a motorbike. Smooth, lots of grip even on the gravel. We lost some mpg with all the hills though 😁👍
Glad to see you stopped at Møvik Fort. A favorite stop of mine anytime I am in K'sand. Ain't never gone up that spiral staircase to top that giant concrete bunker though, not too keen on heights myself... LOL
I’m looking forward to seeing where you go next… East? West? North? There are so many little gems to visit along the coast, and plenty of opportunities to find some quiet space.
Really enjoying watching your travels. From Norway myself, but have never heard of many of the small places you visited. You seem to have studied Norway well before arriving here. Also great footage and very pleasant narrating :) Looking forward to the next episode.
Tank trap = hedgehog. That cannon was/is amazing. We are planning to return to Norway, perhaps in the Autumn and that gun is now firmly on my list of places to visit. Thank you for your excellent videoing (is that is even a word?).

Another interesting video, and something to look forward too,,thanks carol n Ken.🇬🇧

What a Beautiful country that Fort looks amazing
Hi Carol and Ken. Very interesting museum. Great soundtrack as well.
Hi Larry 👍
Spectacular place great video guys 👍
Cheers 👍
We have some in the front of the van and they really help. Back of the van is a different matter 👍
the youtube algorithm did his daily good deed. It brought me here :) thanks for the interesting video
Thank you for watching. Glad you found it interesting 🙂
I am on a diet at the moment. Have not had crisps etc since we got back. 😁👍
@@LifeistooshortCK Me too Ken, but it's not the time of year to diet. That's my excuse anyway. 👍
Really enjoyable thank you.
Oooh, my hometown!
Just found you in my feed...I enjoyed it, vey interesting.
The museum and and the food shop.
Cheers!
Hi 👍
Nice and quiet roads
Their roads are a delight to drive, especially if you are on a motorbike. Smooth, lots of grip even on the gravel. We lost some mpg with all the hills though 😁👍
Glad to see you stopped at Møvik Fort. A favorite stop of mine anytime I am in K'sand. Ain't never gone up that spiral staircase to top that giant concrete bunker though, not too keen on heights myself... LOL
That spiral staircase wobbles as you reach the top 😁👍
I saw that! Sounds like my night mare!
Kristiansand fish market is amazing
Good to see how quickly you get from the town to beautiful countryside. Looks stunning. Stiff brush on the shopping list...thanks for the tip x
We also carry a spray bottle filled with water and some disinfectant just in case we tread in anything unpleasant ☺️
@@LifeistooshortCK 🤢🤢🤢 too much information lol!
I’m looking forward to seeing where you go next… East? West? North? There are so many little gems to visit along the coast, and plenty of opportunities to find some quiet space.
All will be revealed 😁👍
Beautifull swimming lake. Would love to go there on a sunny day.
Yes I bet it’s quite popular. Lots of the lakes we saw had slides etc in them.
Really enjoying watching your travels. From Norway myself, but have never heard of many of the small places you visited. You seem to have studied Norway well before arriving here. Also great footage and very pleasant narrating :) Looking forward to the next episode.
Carol does all the planning which she loves. I can only get excited about a place once I am there 😁👍
Tank trap = hedgehog. That cannon was/is amazing. We are planning to return to Norway, perhaps in the Autumn and that gun is now firmly on my list of places to visit. Thank you for your excellent videoing (is that is even a word?).
Thanks for watching. Enjoy your return to Norway. We can recommend the Canon Museum 🙂👍
