There's something about that trailer that looks unprofessional. You can tell they've framed the shots right, got a good costume and all but they've just filmed it and cut it with no additional effects. We're so used to seeing some kind of filter or effect on everything - especially magical stories - that it look unprofessional.

DISNEY's Snow White was 14 years old. The original Snow White, from the Brothers Grimm, was SEVEN years old to go with the dwarfs, and spent seven YEARS "dead" before discovered by the Prince (who, in the Disney version, was THIRTY-ONE).
Not saying it isn't weird but throughout medieval times after 12 you could be married and the story supposedly is in that setting and also peop,e in the 1800s had some weird believes ngl. Also originally fairy tales were not made to be cute and romantic but to teach lessons. The DW (i assume) just wants to portray those positive lessons just like we have been told as kids, not predatory behavior.
To be fair, not a lot of people understand why the writing was poor in that particular moment. There is an actual explanation for Palpatine’s return in the movie, it’s just not a good explanation.

it's probably not going to be in many theaters. That's probably why it might not have as high as a theatrical box office. probably the main metrics will be via the streaming service which we'll probably never see, since I'd assume they'd keep close to their chests unless they had overwhelming success.

Thing is, there never really was a huge demand for a Snow White movie or any of these live action remakes. They make money because they come out right at the start of school breaks when parents need something to do with their kids. But that's really it. No one is out here asking for live action disney movies like that. So I doubt anyone will care about Daily Wire Snow White just like no one really cared about Disney Snow White until Rachel Zegler started acting annoying.

This is why Ben failed as a screenwriter. He doesn't understand that this isn't going to have mass market appeal. To get people to want to see a new Show White film you have to give them either... a) A novel twist on the tale everyone knows (ie: the TV show Once Upon A Time, or something like Snow White and the Huntsman) b) Nostalgia, and this film isn't going to accomplish that because it won't have the songs! Disney sells their live action films based on nostalgia and that mostly comes form the songs. The Daily Wire doesn't have rights to the Disney songs, so their film won't have nostalgia appeal and their entire point is to be anti-novel twist on a classic tale...so there will be basically no one, other than their own small, loyal audience, whom this will appeal to. Want proof? Remember the other Snow White film that came out in 2014 where Julia Roberts played the Evil Queen in a fairly loyal to the traditional story with only a few modern ods adaptation? Probably not. Because no one does!
I remember a horror version of Snow White, called A Tale of Terror. The dwarfs were miners, all normal sized and only one dwarf. The stepmother, Claudia, suffered a stillbirth and blamed Snow White for it.
To be fair, Mirror Mirror had Snow White become a thief/warrior and fight a mythical beast that turned out to be Snow White’s father under a spell. And ended with a Bollywood style musical number. I wouldn’t say it’s a straight laced traditional adaptation. It’s more a zany campy comedy. What I DO remember is that it had amazing costume design

I'm honestly super interested in seeing what becomes of that Snow White movie. Obviously, anyone that's familiar with Wicked will recognize the angle Disney is going but in a world where big blockbusters are entirely devoid of an original idea, that is somewhat of an original idea. If you look at the version put down by the Brothers Grimm ages ago, then it's even worse. The queen demands the huntsman bring her heart and liver of her stepdaughter to prove he's killed her (he brings her those of a boar instead, which seems viable) and she eats them. There's three attacks on Snow White and only the last one (the apple) works out in the end, because the dwarves can't save her that time. It's only afterwards that the prince passes through and sees the dead Snow White in her coffin and falls in love with the corpse. If not for one of his servants stumbling while carrying the coffin, he'd have put her in his castle (as a conversation piece, one hopes, not for necrophiliac purposes), not married her. And in the end, the queen is forced to dance in red-hot iron shoes until she drops dead. That is more of a horror movie than of a Disney movie, of course, but it would be 'the real one.'
There are versions where she lives with outlaws rather than dwarves, and versions where the princes rapes her comatose body and she gives birth. Fairy tales were not originally intended for children.

My parents were most certainly conservative, my dad was a delegate for Richard Nixon when he wss nominated by the GOP to run for President- just to give you an idea of the kind of house i grew up in. But no, my parents would not have bought the equivalent of DW Kids when i was growing up. They cared about politics but certainly not enough to want to brainwash me out of fear that American Conservatives were (literally) gonna die out like you see today. The fear is palpable. My Dad is still alive and he is appalled by the GOP today... but he also grew-up when Nazi Germany was still fresh in people's memory - everyboby knew someone that lost someone in WW2 - and they all could tell you where they were on VE Day, even my dad, though he was just a little kid.
As a black woman, I don’t know if I was the only one growing up, but it kinda stung to be constantly told that Snow White, a leading Disney princess, was so beautiful mainly because ‘her skin was white as snow’. Basically being told that that’s the standard from a young age. As an adult, the backlash surrounding the casting honestly really got to me too. As a woman and POC, it’s a really depressing that it’s caused so much controversy. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with her comments about the original movie for this exact reason. Reasons that shouldn’t have to be stated by now tbh.
If Disney really cared about giving black girls representation or telling them how beautiful their black skin or whatever they could have just made a disney princess movie about an African princess. set it in the Mali, Zulu, Ethiopia or Egypt and do a story about their struggles. Honestly I don’t really care unless it’s a character from a show, movie, comic book, or book that I’ve followed for decades that has an established appearance. It’s not a problem with James Bond, because you’re not gonna forget him, he’s the main character no matter who is playing him. It does distract me when I’m watching The Witcher. Fringilla is described as being basically close to a clone of Yennefer and I’m constantly having to remind myself “oh, yeah. This actress who looks nothing like the actress playing Yennefer, is Fringilla”. I just like consistency within a franchise.

Part of the greatness of Atlantis and Treasure Planet was that they were passion projects by veteran Disney animators who wanted to break the mold of what disney 2D animated movies could be. The big issue was that blending 2D with 3D backgrounds was still hard at the time, so there's a bunch of PS2 like backgrounds and props amidst the gorgeous hand drawn animation. While they would certainly make for great live action cinema, i really do like that they are animated.
Not gonna lie, a story based in Roman occupied Britain sounds interesting, just not from the Daily wire, and maybe not from the occupier's perspective. I always find it interesting how little this topic is discussed, especially since the Roman colony in Britain ended up becoming a world superpower that colonized the rest of the world. People in the UK always talk about their traditional values, when in reality they were colonized and forced to adopt Roman culture in 43 A.D. It feels like ancient history, but it's pretty obvious that events from the past constantly come back to haunt us.
The Pendragon Cycle is "Christian fiction," so expect a heavy does of American evangelicalism transplanted into Roman Britain. Historical accuracy is not going to be high on their list of priorities.

Veggietales is one of the rare instances of animated religious media being actually well made. Prince of Egypt and The Miracle Maker would be other instances but yeah, most of it is so corny and terrible.

Dude, Merlin was my shit. Angel Coulby was great as Guinevere. Was the right pissed about that? I’m sure they were, I just don’t remember hearing about it. I watched it during a period of worse depression than usual. I was unemployed and sleeping on the couch 20 hours a day. That show brought me minor joy, which is all I could’ve expected at the time. It is kind of a corny show, low budget…etc., but I remember it fondly.
Of all the Daily Wire's failed artists, I'll say Andrew Klavan actually has fairly good insight into movies and seems to at least understand how storytelling works. Whenever I listen to him talk about movies I start to wonder how he ever came to associate with these other guys
He is pretty deeply christian and pretty vehemently against a lot of things he sees against it. He said that while he does not think trump is a good candidate he will still take anyone rather than a person from the party that advocates for murdering babies (refrence to abortions). I am paraphrasing but it was something along those lines. He also talks about being against the trans idealogie. Never the less from what little of the daily wire crew I have watched I find myself liking Klavan the most unironically and finding topics he covers interesting. It helps that he can talk like a normal person (unlike Peterson and Shapiro), has a decent sense of humor (unlike Cooper and Crowder) and seems mostly genuine about his beliefs and values (unlike pretty much everyone else on the crew).

People fail in Hollywood all the time. I failed. It’s fine. I’ll try again later or do something else. It’s a tough business. Unless they angered someone powerful (which I doubt it, since they love the status quo and billionaires) their failure was likely not personal and they were unable to make a career due to their lack of talent or unlikeable personality.
I have two little girls and i brought them to see the live action version of The Little Mermaid last month, and they really loved it. I'm not going to say it was the pinnacle of cinema, but my daughters were singing the songs and twirling around as we left the theatre. I'd enjoy a live action Atlantis, sure, but I'm pretty sure millennials and gen Z aren't the target audience of these things. I'll probably watch the live action Disney Snow White with my girls when it comes out, I'll likely cynically roll my (far left, intersectional feminist) eyes at the trite and basic girl power stuff, but who knows - it may trigger a conversation with my daughters that can introduce them to further topics. At the very least, it will probably be very good technically, and as a millennial who grew up watching some of the worst schlock targeted for little girls, that's a nice improvement.
You bring up a good point. Millinials often get annoyed seeing all of these live action remakes of our favorite childhood films. But these remakes are not for us. They're for the current generation who are going to enjoy them.

Maybe the new King Arthur series is a reaction to the Netflix show, The Winter King, that is a more and less historical Arthur, that cast Merlin and Guinevere with black actors, I have no issue with it, the story is set just a two centuries after the fall of the Roman Empire, having black characters really is not that strange.
Imagine if the only reason you want to remake that, is because 2 actors are black. Totally not a dogwhistle in the making there to the already annoying white supremacist side of medieval history nerds that spend more time whining about wokeness not fitting their truths than the actual subject.

About Disney, there is a business reason why Disney is trying to remake every major animated classic to live action. It has to do with rights of a specific version of these characters and also to fill up their Disney plus catalogue. They don't really care about box office performance. It is hilarious to see RWers feeling vindicated when they don't perform well theatrically...I don't think Disney cares. Little mermaid literally broke Disney+ records. It is about rights and engagement rather than quality for Disney to keep stuff in house.
I wasn't allowed to watch much TV as a kid and my dad banned us from watching Disney because he said Walt Disney was an anti sem ite. I felt sooo left out and weird at the time, I still wish I could've been allowed to watch normal TV like a normal child but I guess it gave me quite a creative mind.

There's something about that trailer that looks unprofessional. You can tell they've framed the shots right, got a good costume and all but they've just filmed it and cut it with no additional effects. We're so used to seeing some kind of filter or effect on everything - especially magical stories - that it look unprofessional.
It’s definitely the font too. It’s the slow way they cut the frames. It’s lack of extreme tight shots. And most definitely the fact that there’s nothing magical or whimsical about it. The costume and set design were not well thought out at all. We don’t feel immersed in a magical world

it's probably not going to be in many theaters. That's probably why it might not have as high as a theatrical box office. probably the main metrics will be via the streaming service which we'll probably never see, since I'd assume they'd keep close to their chests unless they had overwhelming success.

Thing is, there never really was a huge demand for a Snow White movie or any of these live action remakes. They make money because they come out right at the start of school breaks when parents need something to do with their kids. But that's really it. No one is out here asking for live action disney movies like that. So I doubt anyone will care about Daily Wire Snow White just like no one really cared about Disney Snow White until Rachel Zegler started acting annoying.
The conservative meltdowns are probably the only reason anyone will remember these movies. Otherwise they'd be forgotten about like the live action Cinderella from the 90's.

To get people to want to see a new Show White film you have to give them either...
a) A novel twist on the tale everyone knows (ie: the TV show Once Upon A Time, or something like Snow White and the Huntsman)
b) Nostalgia, and this film isn't going to accomplish that because it won't have the songs! Disney sells their live action films based on nostalgia and that mostly comes form the songs.
The Daily Wire doesn't have rights to the Disney songs, so their film won't have nostalgia appeal and their entire point is to be anti-novel twist on a classic tale...so there will be basically no one, other than their own small, loyal audience, whom this will appeal to.
Want proof? Remember the other Snow White film that came out in 2014 where Julia Roberts played the Evil Queen in a fairly loyal to the traditional story with only a few modern ods adaptation? Probably not. Because no one does!
I remember a horror version of Snow White, called A Tale of Terror.
The dwarfs were miners, all normal sized and only one dwarf. The stepmother, Claudia, suffered a stillbirth and blamed Snow White for it.

To be fair, Mirror Mirror had Snow White become a thief/warrior and fight a mythical beast that turned out to be Snow White’s father under a spell. And ended with a Bollywood style musical number.

I'm honestly super interested in seeing what becomes of that Snow White movie. Obviously, anyone that's familiar with Wicked will recognize the angle Disney is going but in a world where big blockbusters are entirely devoid of an original idea, that is somewhat of an original idea. What's funny is that most normal ppls critiques of big budget films is that they just seem to be staying within a line they believe will make the most money and don't put any thoughts into making something special. Only a handful of lunatics actually care about stuff being "woke" but Daily Wire have just decided to capture that audience instead of trying to make something interesting.
I kind of feel bad for Brett being casted as Snow White here. If you look at the version put down by the Brothers Grimm ages ago, then it's even worse. The queen demands the huntsman bring her heart and liver of her stepdaughter to prove he's killed her (he brings her those of a boar instead, which seems viable) and she eats them. There's three attacks on Snow White and only the last one (the apple) works out in the end, because the dwarves can't save her that time. It's only afterwards that the prince passes through and sees the dead Snow White in her coffin and falls in love with the corpse. If not for one of his servants stumbling while carrying the coffin, he'd have put her in his castle (as a conversation piece, one hopes, not for necrophiliac purposes), not married her. And in the end, the queen is forced to dance in red-hot iron shoes until she drops dead. That is more of a horror movie than of a Disney movie, of course, but it would be 'the real one.'
There are versions where she lives with outlaws rather than dwarves, and versions where the princes rapes her comatose body and she gives birth. Fairy tales were not originally intended for children.

My parents were most certainly conservative, my dad was a delegate for Richard Nixon when he wss nominated by the GOP to run for President- just to give you an idea of the kind of house i grew up in. But no, my parents would not have bought the equivalent of DW Kids when i was growing up. They cared about politics but certainly not enough to want to brainwash me out of fear that American Conservatives were (literally) gonna die out like you see today. The fear is palpable. My Dad is still alive and he is appalled by the GOP today... but he also grew-up when Nazi Germany was still fresh in people's memory - everyboby knew someone that lost someone in WW2 - and they all could tell you where they were on VE Day, even my dad, though he was just a little kid.
As a black woman, I don’t know if I was the only one growing up, but it kinda stung to be constantly told that Snow White, a leading Disney princess, was so beautiful mainly because ‘her skin was white as snow’. Basically being told that that’s the standard from a young age. As an adult, the backlash surrounding the casting honestly really got to me too. As a woman and POC, it’s a really depressing that it’s caused so much controversy. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with her comments about the original movie for this exact reason. If Disney really cared about giving black girls representation or telling them how beautiful their black skin or whatever they could have just made a disney princess movie about an African princess. set it in the Mali, Zulu, Ethiopia or Egypt and do a story about their struggles. It’s not a problem with James Bond, because you’re not gonna forget him, he’s the main character no matter who is playing him. It does distract me when I’m watching The Witcher. Fringilla is described as being basically close to a clone of Yennefer and I’m constantly having to remind myself “oh, yeah. Part of the greatness of Atlantis and Treasure Planet was that they were passion projects by veteran Disney animators who wanted to break the mold of what disney 2D animated movies could be. The big issue was that blending 2D with 3D backgrounds was still hard at the time, so there's a bunch of PS2 like backgrounds and props amidst the gorgeous hand drawn animation. While they would certainly make for great live action cinema, i really do like that they are animated.
Not gonna lie, a story based in Roman occupied Britain sounds interesting, just not from the Daily wire, and maybe not from the occupier's perspective. I always find it interesting how little this topic is discussed, especially since the Roman colony in Britain ended up becoming a world superpower that colonized the rest of the world. People in the UK always talk about their traditional values, when in reality they were colonized and forced to adopt Roman culture in 43 A.D.
It feels like ancient history, but it's pretty obvious that events from the past constantly come back to haunt us.

I've always heard of millenials that were raised on Veggie Tales and forbidden from watching almost anything else. Growing up in the south it was actually really common to have friends in school whose parents didn't let them watch stuff I was able to. Insane.

I watched it during a period of worse depression than usual. I was unemployed and sleeping on the couch 20 hours a day. That show brought me minor joy, which is all I could’ve expected at the time. It is kind of a corny show, low budget…etc., but I remember it fondly.
Of all the Daily Wire's failed artists, I'll say Andrew Klavan actually has fairly good insight into movies and seems to at least understand how storytelling works. Whenever I listen to him talk about movies I start to wonder how he ever came to associate with these other guys

He said that while he does not think trump is a good candidate he will still take anyone rather than a person from the party that advocates for murdering babies (refrence to abortions). I am paraphrasing but it was something along those lines. He also talks about being against the trans idealogie.
Never the less from what little of the daily wire crew I have watched I find myself liking Klavan the most unironically and finding topics he covers interesting. It helps that he can talk like a normal person (unlike Peterson and Shapiro), has a decent sense of humor (unlike Cooper and Crowder) and seems mostly genuine about his beliefs and values (unlike pretty much everyone else on the crew).

I’m endlessly fascinated watching an entire cottage industry created out of spite.
I have two little girls and i brought them to see the live action version of The Little Mermaid last month, and they really loved it. I'm not going to say it was the pinnacle of cinema, but my daughters were singing the songs and twirling around as we left the theatre. I'd enjoy a live action Atlantis, sure, but I'm pretty sure millennials and gen Z aren't the target audience of these things. I'll probably watch the live action Disney Snow White with my girls when it comes out, I'll likely cynically roll my (far left, intersectional feminist) eyes at the trite and basic girl power stuff, but who knows - it may trigger a conversation with my daughters that can introduce them to further topics. At the very least, it will probably be very good technically, and as a millennial who grew up watching some of the worst schlock targeted for little girls, that's a nice improvement.
You bring up a good point. Millinials often get annoyed seeing all of these live action remakes of our favorite childhood films. But these remakes are not for us. They're for the current generation who are going to enjoy them.

About Disney, there is a business reason why Disney is trying to remake every major animated classic to live action. It has to do with rights of a specific version of these characters and also to fill up their Disney plus catalogue. They don't really care about box office performance.

I must say it was a bold move to give Ben Shapiro the leading role in their new Snow White film. It looks like Ben's transition is going pretty well, and I had no idea HRT worked that quickly. I mean, it helps to already have such a high-pitched voice, and all that Wilks brothers money should make it easy to afford gender confirmation surgery. Having a doctor as a wife couldn't hurt either. I wish Ben-- I mean Brett the best of luck in becoming the person she was meant to be.
