For everyone asking about using different weight yarn or different size hook, understand that using a smaller hook will make the hat smaller, a larger hook will make it bigger, using a lighter weight yarn will make it smaller and a thicker yarn will make it bigger. If you measure the circumference of round 3 that should be approximately the finished hat size, because round 4 is the last increase then round 16 is a decrease .

Just getting into this, out the gate telling us the chain 3 stitches = 1 double crochet (12 total) tells me your teaching skills are better then anyone else's. Most people leave so many small details out I only hope that I'm getting it. I'm looking forward to making this winter cap. Thank you so much.

Wonderful tutorial. Very well explained, and you showed clearly each step. It's was also a pretty easy pattern but it looked much more complicated. Then again that just might have been the instructor making it so easy. I'm pretty much self taught and I mainly do granny squares and baby blankets. So doing a hat is challenging for me. I'm a visual learner too so I rely on great teachers like yourself on RUclips. For anyone that's interested in making a smaller hat this is what I did to make a hat to fit a pre-teen. My yarn was a 6 bulky so I stepped down one size for my crochet needle and I didn't do as many rounds. I did 14 then measured and it was too long so I kept taking rounds away and ended up with 12 rounds. On the last row before adding the peak I only single crochet decrease after 4 single crochets instead of every 2. My daughter found the hat was tight, so that's how I fixed that. When I was adding the peak I added up the number of stitches I had around and divided it by 3. I had 42 stitches so there was 14 stitches and not 12 for the peak. But everything worked out just fine. With your clear instructions I was able to change what I needed. The hat turned out perfect. It looks so professional. I'm so proud of myself and I owe it to you. Thanks so much for sharing. I don't wear a hat but this one is so cute I think I'll make one for me when I go walking in the woods.

Thank you! I've been looking for a winter hat with a brim! So easy to make too! I'm rather slow crocheter but this hat I was annoyed to complete in a day! For one hat I used super bulky and the other hat I used Caron simply soft and doubled up.. Looks pretty and is soft. Your tutorials are so easy to follow and keep pace with.

Hi there fellow needle worker. I just got finished making this hat with a few minor changes. I had to use the double stranded method due to most I of the time I have four weight yarn on hand. I used the new multicolore method because I used two colors. When doing the band I didn't dc with the sc. The hat us tighter with the double-strand method. Finally, with the finishing row, I went back with the other color around. I want to post but still learning. When I get it right I will post. Hugs and crochet love. Be safe

auntie auntiedi: I'm a beginner as well. I watched the video many times while jotting down the verbal instructions.
I used IMPECCABLE worsted 4ply 100% acrylic yarn and 6.5mm hook. It was really a challenge for me. Good thing, hubby kept reminding me that "Patience is a virtue!" I am proud to say I was able to complete a pretty cute hat😊😊😊. Though I would say the hat seems to be a teen's size. Next time I make one for me, I will use what's recommended in the video.
